  1. Braves pretty much backed out of negotions. DonnieD has a source who supposedly said Peavy to the Braves wasn't happening even when reports said he was going to be traded there. Also supposedly something is supposed to happen today and if not, DonnieD will shed more light on his source.
  2. Mets would go after him but I think they prefer Fuentes. I could see Wood going to the Rangers.
  3. Decent trade for the Yanks. Didn't give up much and can insert him at first base or CF.
  4. They can have him at that price. I hope he posts an ERA above 4 and gets booed ala A-Rod. Though knowing Yankee fans, he could have an ERA under 2 but if he doesn't win 17 games they'll call him a disappointment.
  5. No problem with getting Gregg. But for Ceda? Seriously? You're off to a bad start Jimbo.
  6. Going on right now. Mostly his opinion, but he mentions the following Cubs related items: Doubts Peavy is a done deal yet. He likes Desipio but doesn't think the rumor should be trusted. Hawpe wouldn't be a bad option. Fukudome is best off in CF. Furcal isn't Plan A or B for the Cubs.
  7. Let's say we don't get Peavy. What does Hendry do if he also can't re-sign Dempster? And if he does, does he make an attempt for another starter?
  8. NY Daily News says we're looking at Hermida, but that's about all it says. Nothing new.
  9. There's speculation the Braves could close the deal soon, but that's all it is, speculation. Nothing concrete still, and Peavy said he would reject a trade to the Braves if their package ruins the team's chances to compete next year.
  10. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=5641 3.41 ERA/1.28WHIP/29 Saves last year. In the pen, perhaps. At the end of the pen, no thanks. 8 losses (9 blown saves) from the guy at the end of the pen is not what I want to see. The most telling stat to me: 4.88 BB/9 last season. Yeah, that's a lot.
  11. I just came to post this. I don't know how much truth there is to it, though. I think he's just guessing.
  12. If we don't get Peavy, a deal for Hermida and Olson could end up being a good deal depending on the cost. Take Olsen and flip him to the O's in a deal for BRob. Assuming Pie and Cedeno would be part of a trade: 1B - Lee 2B - BRob SS - Theriot 3B - ARam LF - Soriano CF - Fukudome/Johnson RF - Hermida/Derosa C - Soto Bench: Johnson/Fukudome, Fontenot, Hoffpair, Derosa/Hermida, MI sub, Blanco/Hill But then what does the rotation look like? The only way I would trade Olsen after acquiring him would be to include him in a deal for Peavy.
  13. I wore my 07 Division Champs shirt the other day. It was the first time I wore anything Cubs since they exited the playoffs.
  14. Defeatist...and I couldn't disagree more. edit..hit the submit button too early. We're not going to get Gregg. Maybe Olsen and Hermida, but not all three. I'm just trying to be realistic. I don't know what's going to happen, but Towers seems like what the Braves have. I just don't want to be set up for disappointment.
  15. I think we should start getting ready for the arrival of Scott Olsen, Jeremdy Hermida and Kevin Gregg. I'm getting a feeling we won't be getting Peavy. I know it's all speculation but Towers seems to like Gorkys.
  16. Yeah, I thought we'd only win 7-8 games this year, too.
