  1. Why couldn't we have cashed in on him last year? 12 walks in 8.2 innings, three blown saves already. I know we're not going anywhere this year and it's probably best to let him work through this to build up some trade value again, but at the same time it's painful watching him trot out there in the ninth.
  2. Good for him. If he wants to keep trying, who are we to judge? His life, his arm, his dime going into all these surgeries.
  3. That defense would be grotesque. That also assume Soriano doesn't regress more and LaHair maintains his high BABIP. Would be better than some of the alternatives, I guess. Can also see the FO leaving Rizzo in AAA a few more months.
  4. Yeah, I was more or less saying what it would take. But I'm not really a fan of the Yanks' system. We could get a better deal from someone else.
  5. I'd dangle Dempster first and see if they'd bite. I could see Hughes and a prospect or two coming back. Garza, would definitely want Banuelos and Betances, and I have a feeling the Yanks wouldn't be keen on surrendering both. (Though, they're both getting smacked around in AAA to start the year. Betances has a 17/16 BB/K ratio in 17.1 innings)
  6. Much happier with Bowden instead of Thomas. Still has potential. Though, since we're covering most of the contract, it would be nice if the PTBNL is intriguing and not a throw in.
  7. I would've preferred taking another chance on Andrew Miller. I'm not sad to see Byrd gone, but I'm hoping, like everyone else, that the prospect is somewhat decent to make this worthwhile.
  8. Had such high hopes for him. He was a solid reliever in 2009.
  9. I wonder what the odds are he calls it a career if this is a recurring problem all season. Can't be fun anymore.
  10. Geez. This is gonna be a circus all year long.
  11. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN200107040.shtml I was 13 and most of what I remember from the game is just how crummy Shea Stadium was and how obnoxious Mets fans were. There was an old lady sitting behind us who had a whiny voice and kept referring to Desi Relaford as "my Desi" the whole game. And not like he was her son; she just loved him irrationally.
  12. Not unreasonable. He's a good hitter and a great fielder. Better than the Phillips deal easily.
  13. Game time in less than two hours. What's the official final roster?
  14. Good numbers in AAA last year. Essentially organizational depth. I'd imagine Cardenas is sill the first one called up if there's an injury.
  15. He was announced as their No. 2 starter, behind Jeremy Guthrie. WTH was their rotation last year?
  16. My eyes hurt after Russell. At least we know what we're in for this season.
  17. Works for me. He's pretty raw but looks like there's decent potential there. As someone else said, I'll take that over a middling 25-year-old reliever in AA.
  18. I'd prefer to keep Garza unless the prospects coming back are blue-chip. Soto and Wells might be able to warrant a good prospect or two. Definitely agree on Garza and Soto, both of whom have real value. The other 3 are just worth whatever a team looking to fill a hole is willing to give up. However, I don't know how many "blue chip" prospects Garza is going to bring in. Thinking back a few months, when people were asking for Turner, Castelannos, and one of Smyley or Crosby, I'll admit I was sucked in, but in reality, something more like Drabek, Alvarez, and Snider from Toronto sounds more realistic. Maybe replace Snider with Gose if the Jays were desperate, and even then we might end up tossing in a minor piece. As for Soto, I still think TB , who are still in the hunt for a starting carcher would be the perfect spot, although their once plentiful farm isn't what it once was. I wonder if Soto and Byrd for Upton would be a possibility. I think we'd match up well with the Rays in a Soto trade, but would we trade to pry Upton when we have BJax waiting?
  19. I forgot I also have a Carlos Pena signed bat. And a Mark Prior signed baseball :(
  20. I like Marlon but I'd be all for this if we could get a decent prospect in return. Maybe an A-baller with upside. Then platoon Sappelt and Reed until BJax is ready.
  21. Haha that's fantastic
  22. He's had a few years as a decent reliever for the Blue Jays. Not bad to have as depth.
  23. They were gonna pay Alex Smith $8 mil a year. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if they surrendered a second round pick or something.
  24. Death to Tebowmania. I can see the Dolphins giving up too much in a trade. They're terribly desperate for a QB.
  25. I really wish we'd keep Shark in the pen. Though it's good to finally the SP depth if/when he falters
