  1. Am I the only one who didn't realize former Cubs 5th round pick Darin Downs has been pitching out of the Tigers' pen the last two seasons?
  2. Tino Martinez is the new Bobby Knight http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/eye-on-baseball/22923345/report-marlins-hitting-coach-tino-martinez-abused-player
  3. According to Baseball Reference, Cano has a WAR of 4.9 and Gardner as a WAR of 3.5. The rest of the Yankees' entire offense has combined for a 1.2 WAR.
  4. So Topps is catching up with sabermetrics http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2013-07-26/topps-baseball-cards-war-advanced-stats-brian-kenny-mlb-network?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
  5. I hate that the glove throwing gif only exists in like 8 pixels by 8 pixels format. The play sucked but Lilly's reaction will always get a chuckle out of me.
  6. Sickels write up: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2013/7/26/4559534/cubs-trade-alfonso-soriano-to-yankees-for-pitching-prospect-corey-black He also had Black as the No. 12 prospect in the Yankees system before the season: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2013/7/23/4548684/new-york-yankees-top-20-2013-pre-season-prospects-in-review Sounds like he has good potential. Wish the Yankees has picked up more of the bill but it seems like a fair return. Could be a future closer or solid setup man, it sounds like.
  7. Vitters isn't going to sweeten anything, and Olt is far more valuable than anything the Yankees are likely to include in a Soriano trade (although I'd love to be wrong on that). At this stage, Valbuena would be more of a sweetener than Vitters, no? I'd love to shift Valbuena to second and call up Olt down the road. I would guess Barney wouldn't fetch much from teams seeking help at SS or 2B?
  8. Thoughts on packaging Gregg with Schierholtz there? What possible return could we get on that from the Pirates?
  9. Cliff Lee during the player introductions was classic: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-j8aosrf7ZmQ/UeXdfT3EK4I/AAAAAAAABZo/3jZ0TwmvccE/s500/leestare.gif
  10. Not sure where to put stuff like this unless we start a Trade Deadline thread:
  11. Our long national nightmare is over. The bullpen has really undergone an overhaul in the past week.
  12. Actually, speaking of Mark Reynolds...remember when he got off to an awesome start and some thought maybe he turned it around? He is 0 for his last 19 and in his last 110 at bats, he has 50 Ks and a .471 OPS.
  13. Man I didn't realize how he'd slumped this year. Those are some pedestrian numbers. Then again, we were saying that about Dom Brown and he finally remembered how to hit this season.
  14. Just make it mandatory that Mark Reynolds, Adam Dunn, Prince Fielder, Giancarlo Stanton, Chris Davis and David Ortiz are in it every year.
  15. Any chance this part of a larger Garza trade? Highly unlikely but they are interested. Otherwise this came outta nowhere. I think this means DeJesus hangs around another year, especially with us likely trading Schierholz.
  16. Josh Donaldson was hosed; shoulda made the All-Star team. (never thought I'd say that).
  17. That was the plan from the start, you know. I figured as much. They didn't waste much time on it.
  18. Homer Bailey just tossed a no-hitter.
  19. MLBTR has a roundup on reaction and follow up to the trade: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/07/reactions-to-the-feldman-arrieta-trade.html
