well, i didn't pay much attention to my lineup this week...i had two injured guys in the lineup that didn't score a point.

i'm glad dontrelle is getting that three hit shutout (and 30+ point start) out of his system this week... i was hoping this week would allow papelbon, schilling and clemens to get healthy, but it doesn't look like it's gonna happen.

those that are in it can still add/drop correct? also, if a guy gets shut down for the year due to injury (but is not placed on the DL b/c of expanded rosters), can we still put them on our DL? this may be the case with papelbon.

? i could generously give him the benefit of the doubt and guess that he is trying to say it's more weird for him not to be prepping for the playoffs simply because he really isn't concerned about the braves. however, in any event, this guy's delusion that he perennially manages in the postseason is bordering on insanity.

I'm hoping it's an NL team. Can you imagine Dusty in Arizona with all that young talent? Poor Connor would never see a start over Tony Clark. He'd push them to pick up Luis Gonzalez's extension too. That Luis knows how to win! dusty was in the on deck circle when gonzalez won the world series against rivera.

weird...i read in more than one place that hill broke the record of 10 held by steve wilson.

just watched the game on tivo, and that's some of the best stuff i've ever seen hill have. he was dropping 2-0 curves in for strikes, buckling knees with both his curve and his fb, and how about that sidearm fb he k'ed duffy with?? i don't think i've ever seen him throw that before. and he broke the cub record for k's in a game by a lefthander.

and the giants before that, the cardinals before that, the phillies before that, the astros before that, the pirates before that, the dbacks before that, and the cardinals before that. last eight outings... 50 ip, 36 h, 15 er, 14 bb, 45 k's, whip of 1.00, era of 2.70. just for fun, if you throw out his one bad start, those seven outings come out to... 45 1/3 ip, 30 h, 9 er, 9 bb, 43 k's, whip of .86, era of 1.79. edited for math mistake.

the best run of dempster's career (by faaaaar) was with dusty as his manager. his failings are not dusty's fault...dempster simply has never been a very good pitcher. the person who deserves the most blame is hendry (as usual) for giving him that contract. -

if i remember correctly, you had both weeks and fielder. i wanted weeks, but you insisted on fielder...worked out pretty well for me.

HBC may be f'ed due to the rainouts (and arroyo's start). and i'd do the AJ for ibanez + hanley trade again in a heartbeat. i like ibanez, but i'd never guess that he'd be so productive. plus, i didn't have room in my lineup (or roster, for that matter) for ramirez. besides, my other trades have netted me vlad, schilling, glaus, and soriano w/o having to give up anybody that would have helped me this year. if you make enough trades some of them will work out for you!

you think the "stem" of the problem for a team last in all of baseball in runs is the defense of the catcher? i'd like to say that a lineup with cedeno, izturis, murton, jones, pierre and blanco would be the worst offense in the league, but since the cubs had an offense better than that for much of the season and are already the worst offense in baseball, i'll just say that they'd be, by far, the worst offense in baseball. -
you can't win with rookie pitchers.

does everybody love how cool and tough zambrano is now? though knowing dusty, even if he would have mentioned the pain, he probably still would have started. -
so you're calling moore a viable major leaguer now? and novoa has not come anywhere close to giving the cubs the same production farnsworth did from 2001-2004, which even includes a terrible year from farnsworth. and i never said it was a bad trade...like i said, it's a wash. farnsworth got way more money than the cubs would have given him, so he wouldn't be a cub now anyway. but novoa's production could be matched by any number of 100's of other guys.
