  1. For #2, the Honorable Bruce Miles said with some certainty that he would be playing RF. Are they committed to J. Jones in CF or is that just smoke and mirrors? Sorry if this has been discussed. Heh, considering the thread size I'm sure it has. i think it's smoke and mirrors...i think he'll be gone soon.
  2. he is a good player, but he's also overrated. he's being paid like one of the best players in baseball, and he clearly isn't. How is he overrated? Please no stats involved. Your opinion. And I agree with you that he doesn't deserve to get a $136 million dollar contract. But I will never consider him to be overrated. i think jacque jones is better than albert pujols. prove me wrong...oh, and please no stats involved. Pujols is the games best fastball hitter. He has great plate discipline, plays a solid D at 1B, gets on base, hits for power, hits for a high average, team player, and he runs the bases well. And he has a MVP award. hmm...i don't know...there's a lot of stats in there.
  3. Pujols has an MVP. mmm...i think that's technically a stat. but anyway, kevin mitchell (who also has an mvp) is better than pujols. Nuh-uh...Pujols is the prettiest hitter on the planet. There. QED sorry, tim, but i saw him look bad on a swing once. i win.

  7. no, now it's just two stupid deals instead of one. someone else making an even worse move doesn't make the cubs' move any better.
  8. that's a good point. i think i'd rather give lee 5/75 than soriano 8/135. Really? Lee 5 years from now will be less mobile than that damn mound in Houston in the outfield. he gets around pretty well for a guy his size. and i'd rather have 1 1/2 bad years or so from lee than 2-3 possible bad years from soriano.

  10. wow...i came around on soriano after his improved walk rate of '06. if he keeps that up, i think he'll be all right. his power could go up in the power-friendly NL central. 8 years on the other hand? ouch. that's gonna be a noose around the cubs' neck when he's 39. also...could have had a much, much, much better player in beltran at 7/120 two years ago. ouch and ouch.
  11. the angels have money burning a hole in their pocket.
  12. just b/c that's the market, it doesn't mean you're forced to pay it. if that's the market for crappy middle infielders, you just don't buy one.
  13. i'd quit the cubs if they traded hill for jennings.
  14. so if murton and westbrook are both average, where do you factor in the fact that murton costs $300k while westbrook costs millions and the fact that murton is under the cubs' control for a long time while westbrook is a FA after 2007?
  15. how does young, talented outfielder (murton) = back up ss?
  16. what difference does it make? he's either going to be productive or he's not. the big thing about soriano's 2006 was his improved plate discipline. a low OBP is what kept his OPS down in previous seasons. i'm hoping he turned the corner discipline wise, b/c if he did, he at least has a chance at being worth all the money he's going to get. Then how do you explain the huge difference in production when he bats anywhere else in the lineup?

  18. why are people so high on aardsma?
  19. trying to fan the flames to get this jd drew fire started... does "and" mean hendry would want both? there's no way they could afford drew and soriano...
  20. Again, it's a pattern: $4.15 to Izturis $4.5 to DeRosa $3.25 to Rusch $2.5 to Blanco It's $14.4 million. It's not the "littlest thing" You're assuming that those four positions on the team would be adequately filled by people making $0. You have to assume that the people there are at least making something. 4 players at an average of $400,000 each, combines to $1.6m. Make one of those guys a millionaire veteran and the total cost is $2.2 million, leaving $12.2 million on the table for somebody, or somebodies, who can actually help the team get better. So you're going with Cedeno, one of the worst hitters in all of baseball, over Izturis next year. And you're going with Theriot, very possibly a one-year wonder, over DeRosa. yeah, b/c if anybody is not a one year wonder, it's definitely derosa.
  21. I agree. Meche is a decent candidate to be one of the breakout pitchers with his stuff and coming to the NL, but there are also probably better candidates out there. It really depends on the cost-are we talking 5 million, or 9.5 million? One makes it a decent to good move, and the other one makes it a bad to horrible move in my book. if he signs this soon after filing for FA, you can bet it ain't for 5 mil. guys only sign with new teams this quickly if they know there's nothing better out there or they're afraid the team offering the contract is going to come to their senses soon and withdraw their offer.
