  1. you can blame lou for punishing guzman for those guys' failures.
  2. i'm on board with the idea that the pen sucks, but potentially crippling the rotation in an attempt to fix it is cutting off the nose to spite the face.
  3. It's not a poor argument at all. Our pen is a joke. Guz isn't a dominant SP. The argument that he's worth more as a starting pitcher b/c he'd throw more innings is ridiculous. You have to actually pitch well in those starts for that argument to be even remotely valid. Gooz has the stuff to be lights out in the pen. He doesn't have the stuff to consistently dominate as a ML starter. that is complete crap and a laughable basis for your terribly weak argument. supporters of this move seem to be operating under the assumption that whoever replaces guzman will be as good or better than him, and that's not necessarily true. until someone proves to me that 3 (probably the greatest number of innings he'll throw in a week out of the pen) is greater than 6 (the number of innings he could throw as a starter), i'm not buying into this argument.
  4. boo hoo. if people make terrible arguments, they're going to get torn apart.
  5. when wade miller becomes the 5th starter and the cubs lose his first start 9-2, i hope all you people supporting this move aren't calling for miller to get bumped out of the rotation.
  6. so we can't expect him to continue to perform as he has been as a starter, but it's safe to assume that he'll continue to pitch well out of the pen? that makes no sense at all. based on....? "always" equals, what...twice? yeah, no problem at all. seamless transition, i'm sure.
  7. Marshall isn't going to do better than Angel, and is more likely to do worse, while Angel isn't going to get consistent work out of the pen if Piniella continues to use the pen like he has. This isn't a hard concept. What is seemingly hard concept is that we need someone who doesn't suck in the bullpen. Our 5th starter need not be lights out. come on, man, it's a matter of counting. why do we need someone to pitch two good innings a week out of the pen, but we're seemingly don't need someone to throw six good innings as a starter?
  8. wow, aardsma could have gotten a bunch of runners out there.
  9. PR for Ramirez??? no. this one has extra innings written all over it. aardsma's fb is straighter than howry's.
  10. is howry pitching to both teams right now?
  11. anything that upsets guillen makes me happy.
  12. wuertz on a 3-pitch pitch count? shockingly, howry's straight as a line 92 mph fb gets hit hard. i'm stunned.
  13. Agree, it annoys me to no end. However, I can't help but get extremely excited when the cubs beat the Sox. I think it has a lot to do with putting up with the sox fans at my school. that's why it's annoying. it brings out all the lame fans. plus, i can see the cubs winning the series and making all those fans think all is right with the cubs.
  14. people supporting this move don't seem to have a basic understanding of math. as in, you'd rather have more well-pitched innings than fewer well-pitched innings. and this move is even more ridiculous if miller takes his spot. the good news is, guzman would probably still get 5-6 innings a week in that case since he'd probably be the guy to relieve miller in the third inning of all his starts.

    Week 7

7 ip, 11 tba, 3 er, 6 k's, 2 bb's, win gets only 15.5 points...that kinda sucks. would have been a lot more last year. i'm interested to see what the pitching points look like at the end of the season.

if you make a mid-week trade, you can substitute your new guy into the lineup. at least that's my understanding.

    Week 7

That's possible. I know I picked him up in the draft or as a free agent (I forget which) before this season started, and I can't imagine him not having been owned by somebody at some time considering his top prospect status. i thought i may have traded him to you... i think i traded kemp at some point...maybe in the soriano deal. my filthy hands have been on just about everyone.

i think i may have had owings at some point...
  19. wow, ozzie got it handed to him right there...by an idiot, nonetheless.
  20. depends on what the job is. if the job is being a 5th OF/25th man, fine. otherwise, no.
  21. i agree that yesterday was almost entirely on dempster. eyre still sucks though.
  22. hey, you know what, scotty, since you got wright out two nights ago, i guess i'm not mad at you for giving up the hit yesterday. getting him out two days ago is good enough for me. I don't understand getting pissed at pitchers for giving up hits. All the pitcher can do is throw the ball. A ball in play that isn't a rocket/homer is going to fall in or be an out pretty much at random. i'm just annoyed by his excuses.
