    I understand your points about average guys with lots of tools, but I'm talking about wanting my HOFers to be good at several different aspects of the game. i want my HOFers to be good at one thing -- being good. i don't care how they get there.

    Regardless of the steroids issue, I still wouldn't put Big Mac in. His one dimensionality really bothers me. I know, I know, that one dimension is pretty impressive, etc., but it's just a personal quirk of mine that I like to have ballplayers be able to have at least 2 tools. i don't get looking at guys' "dimensions." i look at production...he was productive or he wasn't...between player A and player B, one is more productive than the other. you can say mcgwire was one-dimensional (which is not true, by the way), but he was really, really, really productive. would you rather have a player who was kinda good at a bunch of things, or a guy who was super awesome at one or two things, and thus led to his team scoring a bunch more runs than the first guy? a guy with 15 homers, 20 steals, a good average and decent defense is likely to be way less valuable than a guy who hits 60 homers, walks a ton, and sucks at all that other stuff.

    That is horribly, horribly inaccurate. But it's a pretty cool claim to make. derrek lee batting third got the cubs swept in the playoffs. everyone knows that.

    yeah, some guy on local sports talk was making a case for rice by saying if he would have taken roids, his career wouldn't have been shortened by injuries...and he somehow deserves credit for that. first, they discredit one guy's resume because he may have done steroids, now they're boosting another's because he should have done steroids.

    what did he do? ran his mouth the whole game, tackled a db by the facemask (yet got a PI call on the db), and got praise heaped upon him by the announcers for no apparent reason. reminds me of mike hart. if you just talk a lot during the game and generally act hysterical, everyone thinks you really want to win.

    i guess we'll just have to agree to disagree then. i'd rather have bedard over buehrle every day of the week. and if the dodgers give up that much for bedard, i'll eat poop.

    Buerhle could have gotten them 2-3 cornerstone prospects alone. that's insane. or you and i have different definitions of "cornerstone." May I suggest you look at some of the offers the Orioles are considering for Bedard and tell me the White Sox couldn't get the same offer (or better) for Buerhle. why would they get a better offer for buerhle? i haven't seen any offers for bedard that include 2-3 cornerstone prospects. feel free to throw a few at me.

    You can't wait, but you aren't going anyway? What can't you wait for? for some reason, a lot of people think of it as some type of hotbed for information or something. it's weird.

    i guess i'm just not convinced that two extra games is some kind of tipping point where smashing into each other becomes overly dangerous. 13 games is ok, but 14-15 is too much?

    not if you cut out one game the top teams play against garbage teams. and if they didn't break for six weeks after the end of the regular season, they wouldn't have to play so late.

    i actually have a little more sympathy for the person he killed. though the saddened yankee fans are also in my prayers. oh, and i also feel terrible for leyritz, who was just out having fun and someone had to die and ruin it all. buzzkill, right?

    just because hendry pissed away that money on wade miller doesn't mean that's his true value. every team in baseball would rather have 2008 mark prior than 2007 wade miller.
