just watched the 9th inning of yesterday's game for the first time, and i think that if lee wasn't inexplicably playing for the bunt, kennedy's hit may have been a DP.

turns out the only significance of taking 2/3 instead of 3/3 is that the cardinals' fall to 10+ games back is just postponed a few weeks.

it doesn't really matter where he makes his next start...it should be wherever is most convenient weather/schedule wise. neither rookie league hitters nor AAA hitters can hit hill...it's just a matter of throwing strikes...it doesn't matter whether it's an 18 y/o or a 26 y/o standing in the box.

If you have Towles in this list, may as well put in Felix Pie as well. Unlike Hill, Willis, and Francouer who have had a few years of major league success, a lot of the others are basically prospects who werent ready yet. Butler was as good as Hill for pretty much the same amount of time. um...no. maybe not, but still he was pretty damn good for a 21 year old. damn, you gave up way too easy on that one. i really wanted to argue about this. -
did the cubs really think the cardinals were going to bunt in the 9th? could have cost them the game.

well, my soul is crushed. that's for sure. but i am going to spend the evening wondering why you defend against the bunt up two in the ninth inning like the cubs did today. and wonder why jim edmonds can't jog at a moderately high rate of speed (for a jog, mind you) on fly balls to the outfield.

great night tonight. blanton's last four starts: -25, 25, -18, 25. guess which two starts i had him active for and which two i had him benched for? colorado and florida play an 18-17 game. uggla (injured) and hawpe (terrible) combine for -0.75 points. every player in the rockie lineup has at least one hit, rbi, and run scored. everyone outside of baker (and hawpe, of course) have some combination of runs, hits and rbis that add up to SEVEN. SEVEN! hawpe: ZERO. that is just remarkable.

funny/sad that it took the big league staff hardly any time at all to presumably ruin 2 1/2 years of good rich hill and less than two weeks for the minor league staff to get him back on track (hopefully).

i don't get it either. his main problem when he was up was throwing strikes, and he's walked 1 or fewer in 9 of his last 10 starts. he's had a few rough starts where he's given up five runs or so, but i have to think he could at least be league average in the big leagues right now. k'ed nine in seven shut out innings on 6/30. i'm guessing he starts the second half in the twins rotation.

st. louis and milwaukee are gonna need some sweeps if they want to make a dent in that 10 game lead the cubs are going to have.
