  1. that seems fair.
  2. in his article slamming computers for their predictions, he acknowledges that the computers were exactly right on about the white sox in '07. i don't get his point.
  3. Yes. Lots of people actually. And I know, I know, because you don't share the same opinion on the issue then it must be stupid to care about this, but regardless, thousands of people do. Maybe millions. maybe trillions.
  4. Yeah, I do. Not enough to commit Harry Caray on second base or anything. ;) But I'm very much a traditionalist and enjoy the history of the game. I remember not that long ago having bar bets that I could name all the baseball fields and football stadiums, and winning the bet. Now I'm down to knowing only a handful of them because, seriously, AT&T? Chase? Citizens? No thanks. And in a couple of years when American Express buys out Chase we get a name change again. oh, i didn't realize this ballpark re-naming was going to cause you to lose bar bets as to how many stadiums you could name. by all means, resume the outrage. i truly didn't know.
  5. i'll be honest...you guys better hope liriano doesn't return to form because if he does, i'm expecting to put up some serious points. a top 3 catcher potentially two top 5 1b a top 5 2b the top ss three top 20 OF poor ty wigginton really feels like a piece of [expletive]. yeah, my rotation has questions, but there is top 30 potential from wang, hill and liriano with even higher ceilings than that for hill and liriano. and, as always, my pen should be pretty good.
  6. just a little clarification. for example, hill (and liriano actually) made only four starts in '05...that means his exemption clock started after '06...meaning he's still exempt after '08?
  7. stop it. Still angry. come on...you had two shots at him before i did. #2 was too high. #9...well...I couldn't believe Lackey was still on the board. Plus I thought he'd last until #14. i thought for sure he'd be gone before #13...i had all but conceded that i'd be taking abreu there. then i got him with my second rounder! by the way, abreu was the 7th best OF last year? is that right??
  8. stop it. Still angry. come on...you had two shots at him before i did.
  9. that's pretty cool. i couldn't click "draft" fast enough when i saw hawpe was there at 13!
  10. What a moronic thing to say. I sure hope NSBB doesn't become like so manny crappy baseball boards out there. it will become crappy if people don't cry after losses?
  11. so is drake a lock as a 4 now?
  12. if they rename wrigley i'll run on the field and kill myself at 2nd base on opening day. seriously, people care about this?
  13. heh...that's the first thing i thought too. ridiculous.
  14. i mean, i hate to say it's time to bring back japanese internment camps, but come on, shingo.
  15. Well, it's true speaking of overrated -- torii hunter.
  16. people thought that was real?
  17. i can't see why you'd be offended if someone assumed something really good about you if you think it's ok to automatically assign some trait to someone based solely on their race -- as long as it's something you deem to be "good" -- i don't know what else to tell you. to me, that's just as offensive as labeling someone with a bad trait based on their race. either way, you're making an assumption about somebody based on the color of their skin, which is just ignorant.
  18. Pff. Don't you have some NSBB thread to summarize and pawn off as and original thought of yours on your web journal? Anyway, it doesn't matter if it's an inside joke or not. My friends and I have tons of inside jokes that would probably be pretty offensive if I said them to anyone else. But I don't. That's why it's an inside joke. However, it stops being an inside joke when you say it to the media. And when your inside joke smacks of racism, well, there you go. Hooray for personal attacks! this is a side-track from the theriot the racist conversation we've got going, but aren't you pretty close to being a grown-up? do you really need to cry "personal attack!" every time someone calls you out on something? you think you're going to be a sportswriter or something, yet every time someone knocks your blog you go tattle tale to the mods. you do realize that when you're working the beat for the cubs in a few years, people are going to criticize you, right? stand up for yourself once in a while. Stand up for myself? How would one go about doing that on a message board? Should I respond in kind with a personal attack on him? And what part of that was "tattling to the mods." It's pretty ironic that he made the childish personal attack and because I refused to respond in kind you are calling me immature. i'm not calling you immature. i'm saying you should stand up for yourself instead of whining about personal attacks to the mods.
  19. i'm not offended, i just think theriot's comments were stupid. i really can't understand how someone would say that stereotyping isn't bad as long as the quality being attributed to the group is "good."
  20. lol, seriously? is this really such a great insight that you felt the need to quote yourself? a stereotype is a stereotype is a stereotype. Saying that asians are good at math might seem like a compliment to you, but it really isn't. so no, all stereotypes are negative. if they weren't, we'd call them generalizations. how is saying that, in general, a group of people are good at something offensive to you? are you serious?

  22. i'm not saying he said it with any racist intent, it's just the kind of ignorant comment you might expect from someone who played their college ball in the south. he probably doesn't know any better.
  23. welcome to america circa 2008 yeah, not having the freedom to assume all asians know karate is going to be the downfall of this great nation.
