  1. I got 2 of them bitches and traded Uggla before the season. that uggla trade kinda worked for everybody. brian got soto, i got uggla, you got wainwright. obviously wainwright is hurt, but they've all been good when healthy. though i'd maybe trade uggla for soto at this point since towles has been worthless.
  2. yeah, not a big fan of that rule change.
  3. liriano and hill have KILLED me. not only have they sucked, but they forced me into trading martin for blanton (who has sucked) and sanchez (who has been good, thankfully) in an attempt to patch work my rotation. injuries to rollins and soriano have kept me from competing for the high score in the league and first place, and fielder and hawpe's early struggles didn't help either. i don't really know what i could do to upgrade at this point since there aren't a whole lot of for-sure sellers...and the ones that are out of it are guys i've never had much luck trading with or don't have anything that could help me. a rebound from towles, a return to form for zimmerman and a good contribution from liriano could help patch up a few of my holes.
  4. They don't play until tomorrow night in STL. They'll get in very early Friday morning and play probably 12-14 hours later. It's no big deal. stop ruining everyone's "the world is against the cubs" vibe. cubs have already done what i hoped they would this series by winning two. taking this one would just be gravy.
  5. forgot about him. though he has fewer points than those other guys...and is only going to be OF-eligible next year. wow, just looked at his numbers...he is not a fan of walking, eh?
  6. who is the best exempt player in the league? lincecum, hamels for the pitchers; kinsler, hamilton, hanley and uggla for hitters?
  7. I can't see him helping at all this year. I think the Cubs should start using him out of the pen whereever he is at. Hell use him him one hitter at a time. Pick lefties who have no shot to hit him. Let him start getting successful again and try to build his confidence. his stuff isn't the problem. it's his control. it's not like he's getting battered around every time out.
  8. I wasn't under the impression that he was ever really that wild, so I'm not sure how big of a difference this is. i wasn't either. but the word "ankiel" was getting thrown around quite a bit in this thread and others. I'm pretty sure the word "ankiel" was being thrown around because he seems to have magically and almost instantly lost his high level of pitching skill. He didn't lose it as "glamorously" as Ankiel did, and I doubt his career is on the same future path, but there's still a mental element that has apparently impacted both pitchers. I don't think it's an unfair comparison from that POV. except ankiel was missing my feet, not inches when he was going badly. hill apparently has not been doing that, so i think he has a better chance of recovering. i'm sure there's a mental element to it at this point, but the fact that he's not firing it over the backstop makes me think it's a combination of mental and mechanical.
  9. send him to mesa to room with hill.

  11. no, no relief pitching is EXACTLY the same thing as shooting a basketball.
  12. if they can sit there with a straight face and say he was getting squeezed by the ump (whether it's true or not), i think it's safe to assume he wasn't throwing balls behind hitters and six feet over the catcher's head. so that's something. also, i'm sure part of the reason he was pulled was because of a pitch count.
  13. i don't know how he could upbeat mentally.
  14. i'll take being down only one point with a 4-2 start advantage the rest of the way. still can't figure out how piniero's 5 ip, 11 h, 4 er start is not a negative start, but i'll take it i guess. and i liked dempster's score a lot better before he gave up that homer...
  15. plesac pronouncing ichiro "ichiroo" (rhymes with scooby doo).
  16. glad to see murton get a start against a righty. neither cedeno nor patterson are doing much for me these days.
  17. i'm getting sick of that little combo. i can't wait til krod quits lucking into four save opps a week.
  18. damn, i was counting on a negative from him.
  19. My priority is not wasting my time clicking that stupid All Star Ballot. I hope he makes it, but I've got much better things to do than vote for him hundreds of times. I did three then got bored. ok, then you're clearly not making it your top priority.
  20. sure would be nice if uggla could get healthy in time to participate in a four game series at coors.
  21. If you had any confidence in him continuing that production, there's no way you'd look to trade him! well, it would obviously depend on what i was getting in return. it's getting to the point now where there aren't many SP's that i would give him up for in a 1-for-1 deal. it's not like i'm going to take randy wolf or somebody in return for him.
  22. if i were a member of this league that was looking toward the future, i would probably inquire as to the availability of john danks, who is the 13th best SP in roadkill and has TWO exemptions left. not telling anyone how to do their job or anything. i can't decide which waiver wire pickup i like more...danks (3rd in the AL in era) or the duke (1st in the AL in era).
  23. Yeah I was looking at that and I don't like it. None of the matchups are really bad, but I still don't like it. I need 100 points tomorrow. all of your starters have pretty tough matchups this week, really. I know, but I am trying to be optimistic damn it. Don't have to win, just don't get shelled. I am most worried about Owings tomorrow. Though I am expecting Sanchez to get shelled for you too ;-). not saying that it won't happen...as sanchez is prone to some blow-ups...but he's been pretty much lights out for a while now and the dodgers ain't exactly lighting up the scoreboards. i'm more concerned about the duke facing the white sox and even dempster facing the giants. you're pitchers have faced/will face cws, det, @hou, tb, milwaukee, and the mets. meanwhile, i've faced minn, cleveland, sf, cws, lad, seattle and oakland. those matchups certainly favor me.
