  1. Why did I think we picked up Motte as a no-risk flier? At 32, $5MM was kind of silly.
  2. So would Chris Archer. But if ifs and buts were candy and nuts. Cashner's ability was never the question, so much as his durability. That, coupled with the impact bat>impact arm mindset made this deal a no brainier.
  3. Donn Roach was pulled following 5 pitches and an injury delay. So that's a shame. I guess.
  4. With LaStella joining Olt in the who the hell knows if we'll ever see him again list, I'm not surprised by the interest in Zobrist. And Clippard would be a nice rental. I'd happily take the lake off Oakland's hands, but the key piece coming from us shouldn't be anything bigger than Villanueva.
  5. And now MLB.com's Cracker Jack team is getting in on this. http://mlb.com/r/article?ymd=20150519&content_id=125219330&vkey=news_nym&c_id=nym Proposal 1 is possible, though I don't know much about Matz. Proposal 2 is iffy; I'd perhaps be more willing to entertain it with Castro if there were more indication that Baez or Mendy could take over SS. Proposal 3 made me throw up in my mouth, and not just a little bit.
  6. Though neither Almore nor Torres have played since their injuries, is the fact that neither have been DL'd yet a good thing, or do they just take longer to evaluate?
  7. I've quietly monitored Jensen all along. Though I don't see him as an answer to the back end, and would still like to acquire something along the lines of Papelbon or Soriano, I'd certainly be inclined to give him a look instead of the usual upper level dregs.
  8. They also struck out 14 times themselves, including 3 apiece for Schwarber and McKinney.
  9. And they've got this guy. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/21AgLIPdlSL.jpg Who does not like it when the rookie [expletive] wads can't take a little joke.
  10. Doesn't sound like this is anything but smoke at this point. And if it did happen soon, I'm thinking that either Russell or Rosscup would be first too go, now that Wood's in the pen, and Motte would also be gone before Jackson, unless they managed to trade him.
  11. There's always going to be exceptions. Starlin was like $45K, Daury Torrez $25, Junior Lake $100 played their way onto the radar, not guys that were being watched from day one. Torres and Jimenez, and to a lesser extent, Ruby Silva, Frank DelValle, and Mark Malave were news when signed, so we knew to keep an eye on them from the beginning.
  12. Here you go: Thanks. But aren't IFA signings south of $500K considered iffy at best these days?
  13. Would he even want it to vest? He's 34 now, going to be 35 by winter. If he keeps doing what he's doing, he could realistically receive a 3 year deal in the offseason. But if he were to wait until his age 36 offseason, teams would be a lot more reluctant to give him more than a year. Who's to say that he might not prefer to play out the contract and retire, or make one more stop in Boston for a farewell tour. But he may also want that option waved by whomever he's traded to. Assuming that he has an NTC. Which I assume he does.
  14. http://sports.cbsimg.net/images/visual/whatshot/Pedro-Stroproller-040314.gif I vividly remember reading about this play, but until now, I had yet to feast my eyes upon it.
  15. Looks like Yeorvis Medina and Daniel Schlereth have been added to Iowa's roster along with Paulino. So throw your hands in the air, and wave 'em like you just don't care. Because you probably don't.
  16. But screw Rademacher, that guy is a cancer and needs to be stopped As human beings, they are equal. As prospects, they are not. If Bijan Rademacher's journey to backup 5th outfielderdom is set back a few months due to a banged up knee, no sleep is lost.
  17. Isn't that what they used to say every time Reed Johnson did anything?
  18. I have selected Wilson Contreres and Charcer Burks.
  19. I have selected Wilson Contreres and Charcer Burks
  20. Huh? Why wouldn't they? I guess I don't understand the point. "Hey, you know who we should try to trade for? Papelbon." "Agreed. We could use him. Let's call the Phillies in a month to see how they feel about it." Obviously that's oversimplified, but I don't understand why a front office would talk about trading for a guy internally when you don't even know if he's available or what it would take externally. You have scouts checking players out all the time. But there's really nothing gained beyond "do we want him or not?" from the internal talks. And I don't know how anyone would know until it was at the point of calling the Phillies. Theo: Hey Jed, I just traded Alcantara for Papelbon Jed: [expletive], I just traded Alcantara for K Rod. Randy: I told you we should have discussed the matter internally. Theo: Shut up, Randy. Jed: Seriously, how are you even still here?
  21. Is there anyone in the VSL worth following?
  22. Looking back at BBR, the Cubs have had a lot of randoms these past few years while we were to sad to notice. Some that I'd forgotten were ever Cubs, such as Cody Ransom and Brent Lillibridge. Others, I've never heard of. Raise your hand if you knew that a man named Thomas Neal played in 2 games for the 2013 Cubs?
  23. I think the motivation to trade now rather than later increased due to the roster crunch / 3 catcher / no bench issues that have probably irked Maddon. Due to his weak offensive numbers, his value was at an all time low. Due to his lack of PT, it had nowhere to go but down. It was take the first viable offer or DFA him, in which case he probably wouldn't have made it through waivers. Short answer; it was a case of something's better than nothing.
  24. Not even lunch time, and McKinney already has a pair of walks. I like this kid.
