  1. Can we pretend that it's the 1st inning of a new game and we're up 1-0? 5/4 Cubs (Jax) @ Cardinals (Martinez) 7:50 PM ESPN/CSN Woo Hoo! We're up 1-0!
  2. Maybe not as exciting as the Cubs 1st inning, but Mendy's 1-1 and Javy with a HBP, which is kind of like a walk.
  3. For what it's worth, if this inning happened last year, I'd have been thrilled with 2 runs. Now, I'm kind of disappointed.
  4. If this happened vs. the Brewers, I'd feel a lot more secure.
  5. We will take 3/4 from these Cardinals, and be once again on top of the world. We will then proceed to go 3-7 against the Brewers, Mets, and Pirates, and all will be lost. But THEN...
  6. absolutely. it didn't bother him the first two weeks he was up, but now it does. clearly. And we don't know what was going on with it behind the scenes now versus then. I'm not saying that he himself has a grievance. This guy's 23 years old and the toast of one of the greatest city's in the world, so I can't imagine him having a grievance over anything. But I can imagine Boras calling him every other day badgering him about God knows what, and there has to be some level of awkwardness going on between him and management.
  7. The Brewers are in a similar situation to ours when Epstein took over. They have a middle of the pack at best farm system. They have: Lucroy and Segura, and to a lesser extent,Nelson, Fiers, Peralta, and Davis are quality building blocks, especially seeing as Lucroy and Garza play two of the toughest positions to fill. But for the same reason, they're their best bet as trade chips. If Carlos Gomez and Garza stay healthy, they could bring back something of value. But those are big ifs. ARam, Lind, Lohse, and K Rod could be useful rentals, but they probably want to move before the market picks up. Then there's Braun. Braun's 31. Braun gets hurt a lot. Braun can no longer benefit from whatever he may or may not have benefited from in the past. Braun's contract was not structured with any of this in mind. Braun is owed $96MM through (ironically) 2020. Does someone with deep pockets pick up a significant chunk? Does a smaller market team offer enough of a player return to justify the Brewers eating the rest of the contract? But then what? The Brewers don't have our market. They don't have the Cardinals fans, whom I'm told are the best in baseball. If they completely tank for the next few years, and fans turn their backs, how long before we're facing the Indianapolis Brewers?
  8. Absolutely. Yuuuuuuuuuuuup. Because Cubs fans being absolutely bipolar is something new.
  9. Or we could just do it in cycles. Bryant, Soler down. Schwarber, Vogelbach up. Then the moment they start to cool, replace them with the next hot hand. Repeat process.
  10. Probably going to take more than that to win back the defeatists, but even if he ends up more Yunel Escobar than Gary Sheffield, I still have hope for him.
  11. I understand that even on his off years, he was a plus WAR catcher. I also understand that when he burst into the scene the way that he did in late '07-'08, and then the '10 resurgence after the dissapointing '09, we were expecting him to give us several more years of the same. But I think you understand what I was getting at.
  12. Holy [expletive], I just saw the clip of that ball to Segura's head. Suddenly, the Rizzo/Russell collision doesn't look so scary.
  13. I'm thinking that we sucked out whatever juice Coghlan had left. I wonder what the A's want for Reddick.
  14. Too bad. After the DP, I thought he'd get out of it. More power to you, Aramis Ramirez' ghost. Oh well, time to give the Brewer's their first series win since like last June and get on with it.
  15. Ryan Williams is looking intriguing despite being a year or so old for his league. Trouble with moving him or Null up is that the A+ rotation is strong, but none quite ready for AA.
  16. Javy with a 2B and HR today, and only 2 K's in his past 3 games. Oh, please let this be something.
  17. I blame Corey Patterson, Geo Soto, Felix Pie, Brett Jackson, and Josh Vitters. I still have hope for Baez. But yes, I 100% agree with you're point. Cubs fans are ready for the new day, but a lot of them still fear the imaginary Baseball God who demands a sacrifice in the form of the career of every Cubs prospect who reaches the big leagues. That is such an odd list to put together. If nothing else, Geo put up 10.8 WAR for us. Soto did string together a few successful big league seasons. But he did sink like a stone a lot quicker than he should have. But what seperates our current crop from those guys is that with the exception of Patterson, they were never true blue chippers.
  18. Is it out of the realm of possibility that Bryant's recent struggles are related to whatever's going on behind the scenes with the grievance [expletive]?
  19. That was swell. Now let's score another run and not let the Brewers. And we can temporarily avoid running for the razors.
  20. They're all going to fail. Bryant. Soler. Russell. Rizzo's going to break something. Castro's going to jail. Vogelbach's going to eat Schwarber. What choice will we have but to lure Ryan Theriot and Milton Bradley out of retirement? And then Bradley's going to kill everyone. Meanwhile, The Cardinals are going to pull a bunch of superstars out of nowhere. It's going to be awful.
  21. This is from the Cub Reporter from 5/1, but first I've heard of it. So that's good.
  22. The median age of our regular starting lineup is 25.75 years old. That of the 5 big league players who factor into our long term future is 23.4. This includes a pair of 25 year old All Stars who may not have fully reached their stride.
  23. There might be an opening at 3b soon. Why on earth would you say that? Bryant is flopping, duh. Is that meant for green font? Serious question, because I can't tell these days.
