  1. Wow...so it is what I posted earlier with Sweeney out and Herrera in, I guess. Some time in the not too distant future, we'll look back upon an opening day 2015 box score, and ask "who the hell was Herrera?"
  2. This is the first time in half a decade that I've been excited about the baseball season, and not just opening day. How does: Fowler CF (S/L) Castro SS ® Rizzo 1B (L) Soler ® Coghlan (L) Olt ® Montero C (L) La Stella 2B (L) Lester P sound vs. one of the game's top RHP? Personally, I'd go with Mendy over LaStella, but I doubt it happens.
  3. San Dimas High School Football Rules!
  4. With Rondon, Strop, Ramirez, Coke, Motte, and Grimm joining our $13MM mop up man in the pen, I'm not at all unhappy with any of it. Interested to see what happens when Wada and Turner are healthy.
  5. According to a beloved and well respected analyst, he could be something of a poor man's Juan Pierre.
  6. The point is that you don't want to get rid of a guy who's the closest we have to a sure thing as far as long term catchers go unless we're getting something in return.
  7. What jersey said. Especially not for just half his already modest salary...wtf What if the Cubs won't eat his deal to get rid of him? I guess its not the end of the world for him to be a mop up guy. I realize that this would open up another can of worms with regards to the Cubs financial flexibility, but focusing on this hypothetical situation which to me doesn't seem too outrageous of a scenario, what is the best solution to the Jaxon problem, keeping in mind that trip to colonize Mars won't launch for another decade or so. Trading Castillo for $5.5M or whatever in payroll savings is crazybuckets IMO. Pretty much. Montero could end up an upper-middle class man's Henry Blanco. David Ross is a bench coach with a roster spot. Schwarber's at least a year and a half away, and even then, he may not be behind the plate. Castillo's 27 years old with a 7.7 career WAR under his belt, and under control through 2017. If Cliff Floyd and Daryl Ward existed on one roster, we can find room for Castillo.
  8. Dodgers are reportedly considering SP depth. Their spend now, shrug later attitude could make this our best chance to move Edwin.
  9. Even those under the impression that there's a 1982 action classic entitled "Rambo" know better than that.
  10. I'll go with Johnson. But while it likely won't enter the picture until 15-20, am I wrong in thinking that Torrez and Zagunis should be above Candelerio and some of the lower level guys among the choices?
  11. http://memedepot.com/uploads/2000/2339_bye.jpg And with a whimper, the Josh Vitters chapter with the Cubs comes to a close. Well, it was closed anyway, but whatever. We're really going to regret this decison for about a month and a half.
  12. 25 years old, ex Red Sox, one time top-ish prospect (97, BA Pre-2011.) Yup, that's his type.
  13. Young. Cuban. Power. Does he play anything resembling serviceable defense at 3rd? Could be a bridge to Bryant, and then share left with Coghlan.
  14. Law's an idiot. What does he know? Wait, he said what we want to hear! As I was saying, a brilliant, brilliant man.
  15. And let's be reasonable; does anybody really think that they're going to allow opening day to roll around with Mile Olt alone in the depth chart for 3rd?
  16. He said he can be, not is. I would interpret those words to mean that his ceiling is at least that (in other words, it might be higher). But he said "at the very least" which should override the "can." That's a statement about a floor. No, it's a statement about what he thinks his ceiling is at minimum. That's gibberish. The minimum location of a ceiling is defined by the location of the floor. Are we ignoring how broad a generalization "above-average starter" is? If we're talking above average 4-5 starter, I can believe it. But I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's his floor. His floor is the same as that of every players: out of baseball by this time next year.
  17. They reportedly asked for Dillon Gee from the Mets. I don't know a ton about Dillon Gee, but if the Rockies are willing to overlook Travis Wood, the two seem relatively comparable to my untrained eye. Wood's a year younger, and both are under team control through 2016.
  18. I remember that too, and then I kind of lost track of his existence. Then again, Nyjer Morgan and his over the top personality disorder was good for the Brewer's for a year.
  19. Just saw that Rickey Weeks is still out there. Seemed to have a bit of a rebound last year after a disasterous 2012-2013. If the price is right, and I'm talking 1 year incentive based, any interest? It's not like we have 2B nailed down, and maybe he could log some time in the OF during ST.
  20. We got him for Mike Kickham, who we picked up on waivers 12/23 and DFA'd a few days ago. Huijer is apparently a very large, 21 year old A-Ball pitcher, and was the Mariners #28 prospect last year. We essentially got a free fringe prospect.
  21. Depending on whether or not this is intended to address our need for another bat, I either hate this or I'm indifferent.
  22. Ha! Well done. Ha, I think that would be close to enough though. I'd be fine with any 2 out of Castillo, Hendricks, Edwards, PJ, Vogelbach, Underwood, Tseng, Black, or whoever else they like that falls into like mid teens-mid 20's for us for him with one of the others above mentioned. I think I'd be fine including Almora in a deal for him too. Normally, Edwards or Almora plus Castillo would be a fair package, judging by what TT's posted report says they' should get. But who knows how many teams are willing to make similar offers. Seeing as it's no secret that we're currently not on the best of terms with the Rays, they won't be doing us any favors. This being said, if they have an in basket full of similar packages, ours likely remains toward the bottom. I'm not saying we go crazy here, but we'd have to add something special to our package. My thinking is that it would take 1 of Edwards/Almora, Castillo, and one more from the above group, or at least something else of value. Vogelbach would be a perfect match. He's been a trade chip since he was drafted, and will be Rule 5 eligible next winter.
