  1. That's all great, but there's no avoiding the fact that the Cubs never get hot when they need to. The Pirates have won 20 of 25 and the Cubs haven't. That's not the sign of a team built for the playoffs. Hoping this is a joke? Baseball emo. It's more a win than 2-1, but fun to watch. And that should be worth something. If nothing else, they made the pythag theorem their bitch.
  2. And 5 strong innings by Pierce Johnson leading up the the reemergence of Neil Ramirez.
  3. Holy offensive barrages, Batman. And with Schlitter gone, I feel mostly safe with the 10 run lead.
  4. Perhaps not your textbook triple, but all the record books will show is an RBI triple for his first big league hit.
  5. Also pitching this evening: Joe Blanton and Kevin Correia. I guess Woody Williams and Jon Garland weren't available.
  6. I'm not sure if this belongs here, but could the 2015 Phillies be a historically bad team? As of now, they're at 21-44, putting them on pace for 108-109 losses. The modern day fecal standard is the 40-120 '62 Mets, with the 43-119 '03 Tigers not far behind. After that, there are 8 other teams in what is considered to be modern baseball history (1900 and beyond) with >110 Ls. Looking at the current makeup of this Phillies team, and the fact that their 4 capable players (Hamels, Papelbon, Revere, Harang) could easily be traded within the next few weeks, I'm thinking that they could reach that level.
  7. I feel as though Underwood hasn't gotten the attention they deserve. Granted, he may not be dazzling us with K's, but his 1.85 ERA/0.93 WHIP sure look pretty. Especially in a pitching thin system full of underperformers (Tseng, Torrez, Stinnet, Blackburn,) injuries (Johnson, Zaz, Maples if he even registers,) SP converted to relievers (Edwards, Black, Paniagua,) and a few pleasant surprises (Null, Williams, Roach,) I'd think the one SP prospect who's been meeting, if not exceeding expectations would be getting more attention. Then again, the MiLB threads in general have looked like the big leave game threads did the past 2-3 years.
  8. Sign me up for: Vs. RHP: Fowler Coghlan Bryant Rizzo Soler Schwarber Russell Montero Castro Vs. LHP Fowler Russell Rizzo Bryant Soler Schwarber Castro Lake (if not yet eligible for return, Baxter can develop fake injury) Montero Good opportunity to give Russell a shot out of hat 9 spot.
  9. if we care about all four of those guys at that point, things will have gone very well (except for the fact that none of them signed extensions, which will be weird). Russell and Bryant are each under the control of the dark one, so I'd be surprised if either were to sign anything before they reach free agency; unless it's of a very player friendly (read:agent friendly) variety.
  10. Yuuuuuuuup. I didn't even realize that we had that many relievers. No wonder we've seen so much of Baxter and bucket head. But as for the Schlitter vs. German argument, assuming that this is very short term move, it makes sense that they'd rather go Schlitter than risk German being claimed when he's again optioned by the end of the week.
  11. I don't know what this means. But it sounds to me like grounds for immediate post-season disqualification. For the next 3 years.
  12. Fun fact: Between AA-AAA, there are 2 guys younger than Russell (Almora, McKinney) A+ has 4 (Tseng, Underwood, Penalvar, Martinez) A has 6 (Torres, Burks, Leal, Clifton, and then Jesse Hodges and Micheal Knighton, who I've never heard of.) So our starting 2nd Baseman is younger than all but 12 of our full season minor leaguers.
  13. I read yesterday that he's in a walking boot, and he might be able to come out of that by today, and resume baseball activities not long after. So it will probably be a few weeks.
  14. Such is the life of a mop up man. Every bullpen has one. And there's no indication that German or Medina would be any better. The main gripe is that people would prefer the awful they don't know to the awful they do.
  15. http://www.bleachernation.com/2015/06/15/more-indications-that-cubs-will-blow-out-ifa-budget-starting-on-july-2/
  16. .260/.328/.479 8HR on the year vs. RHP, .083/.214/.083 vs. LHP .280/.344/.431 33 HR vs. RH, .239/.318/.329 5 HR vs. LH for his career. All we need now is a right handed one of him.
  17. If you're talking from a strictly rational and level headed stand point, you're absolutely right. But when you blow a handful of leads early on (and I'm not going to lie, I felt as thought he blew like 10 games 2 weeks time,) you're going to quickly dig a hole with the fans. And when you're a replacement level middle reliever on your best day to begin with, good luck digging out.
  18. Nothing that hasn't been happening for decades: the one they call Castro spells doom for The Reds.
  19. I don't get why they keep calling up Brian Schlitter instead the more desirable option, Not Brian Schlitter.
  20. So what happens when Turner's ready to go? Does Wada get bumped or do we use the bullpen for storage? Nothing against Wada, but if there's any hope whatsoever for Turner, he's a more valuable asset and should be the in the rotation.
  21. I know. I think it's the only thing keeping him from going to Iowa. That and Javy's finger
  22. We sure did hear about it. maybe the folks that follow the minors daily did but the mainstream people like me (who only really heard national / local newspaper stuff until this season) havent. he has been great on the bases... just wish he could throw better What's a...newspaper?
  23. Tenn going wild, including McKinney's 1st AA HR and Hanneman with a HR, 3B, and 2 2Bs.
  24. One day, people will understand that any number of teams are discussing any number of trades all throughout the season. With this in mind, " and have discussed trade, no deal close" blurbs are about as newsworthy as Chloe Kardashian lost 15 pounds in three and a half hours, click here to find out how!!!"
