  1. Maybe not tomorrow, but with Soriano already at AA, someone's days are numbered. Spoiler alert: it won't be Rondon, Grimm, Motte, Ramirez, Strop, or a lefty.
  2. Military guys are the worst, aren't they? it's pretty great that this is sarcasm but yes some of them are awful Like Hitler.
  3. I don't boo. Never have, never will. But if I was as bad at my job for as long as Edwin's been as his, I'd have lost it a while ago. And I damn sure don't get $13MM to do it. So no, I don't feel bad for him.
  4. I was kind of hoping the inning went on for another 9 or 12 batters so maybe his arm would fall off and that would be the end of it.
  5. 2-0, 3-0, 10-0. Does it really make a difference? I think I liked it better with the tarp on the field.
  6. I know the whole fire the hitting coach thing is stupid and pointless. But we should probably fire the hitting coach. Whomever he is. Say, who is our hitting coach, anyway?
  7. Oh, that's all? I'm really not sure what your angle is here. Is it Sarcastic "Oh, that's all," IE we'd never get a few low level prospects for him? Or serious "Oh, that's all," suggesting that he's worth more than a few low level prospects. But the fact that, off the top of my head, Tony Campana, Jeff Baker, Scott Hairston, and Rafael Lopez, each brought back something of moderate intrigue suggests to me that Mike Olt could bring back two of those.
  8. While its of minimal if any consequence, I wonder if Detroit would have some degree of interest in Mike Olt as a temporary fill in at 1B. Obviously, he's no replacement for Miguel Cabrera, and who is. But somebody will have to be for at least 6 weeks. Adam Lind's a quick fix option. And I'm sure the Phillies have already called them about Howard. But either one would be costly for a 6 week fill in. Olt could probably be theirs for a few low level prospects.
  9. And another thing; we need a bat. But who are we replacing? The knee jerk response is Chris Coghlan. Who just so happens to be one of our only consistent hitters, certainly vs. righties. He could use a Reed Johnson type to platoon with. And now that Soler's back in right, Denorfia likely becomes that guy. Right field had been our gaping hole, but now that Soler's back, hopefully, his bat will soon join him. Beyond that, who's expendable? Certainly not 1st, 3rd, or C. Which leaves us with: CF, 2B, and SS. Fowler: I'm not going to lie, the possibility of Carlos Gomez, Gerardo Parra, or even Carlos Gonzalez are becoming intriguing. And while I don't think this is what we can expect from Fowler the rest of the year, he has been a problem lately. And then there's the middle infield. Castro's making himself difficult to defend lately. Whatever they did following 2013 to fix him for 2014, they need it to begin. And then, there's defensive wonderkind Addison Russell. While I have little doubt that his bat will catch up with him in the long run, as of now, he's Darwin Barney. You really can't bench him. You could send him to AAA, but who replaces him? Javy's broken, and Alcantara's bad again. Zobrist? With Oakland kind of-sort of in WC contention, they're no longer in back up the truck mode. And while Billy's always open for business, he wouldn't come cheap.
  10. Whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. They don't need to win the division to win the freakin' WS. Would you rather her say '[expletive] it, let's splurge. Schwarber and Edwards for the earthly remains of Ichiro!' 'Is Chase Utley still alive? He is? You want Rubi Silva and Brian Schlitter? Well that just won't do. You'll take Pierce Johnson and I won't hear any more of it!' But seriously, it's pretty much what every businessman says when he plans to acquire anything. And really, it depends on what he means by "overpay;" another intentional generalization often used by businessmen.
  11. Feel free to utilize this thread for any and all minor transactions.
  12. Another inning or 2 for Kyle, then to the pen, and hopefully we can eek this one out.
  13. The fact that we still have 5 of our regulars with OPS under .600 over the last 6 games kind of matters. Last 10: Fowler .161/.235/.258 Rizzo .171/.302./.257 Montero .216/.256/.297 Castro .222/.263/.278 Russell .125/.200/.156 Bryant .250/.359/.500 Coghlan .269/.500/.346 (no, that's not flipped) Denorfia .323/.313/.387: maybe somebody can explain to me how his BA can be higher than his OBP.
  14. I stated my point of view. You stated yours. So yes, we can stop. Enjoy your morning.
  15. The fact that Starlin Castro's line isn't considered and underperformance frightens and saddens me more than the line itself.
  16. we've just come off facing 3 of the top 5 staffs (i think) in the league. They faced the Mets 2 worst pitchers (Colon and Niese) and just scored 1 against Tom Koehler. Strangely enough, throughout that stretch, the only guys we managed any kind of offense against were Clayton Kershaw and Jacob DeGrom.
  17. Your excessive hand-wringing over this move would indicate otherwise. I'm not sure where you're getting hand-wringing. If we were talking a 26-27 year old Clayton Richard, then it would absolutely make sense. But the 31 year old version is a small step above Rodrigo Lopez. Which is great if you need a quick filler for a hole we didn't have. But my primary point of view is that we're hitting the time of year where while some teams are going to be gunning for front end starters, others are going to be looking for depth. And Jackson and Wood are the types of guys that the latter could use. Even if we could finagle something along the lines of a Corey Black or Jonathan Martinez, that would still make it worthwhile.
  18. Jeimer has been putting together a little something-something lately.
  19. What is Voglebach's injury? I saw Machin in Southbend's lineup and Torres is missing... Torres has played the last 9 games, so an off day makes sense for him.
  20. But it should have something to do with it when they're essentially pulling guys off the street for spot starts. And if not Jackson, just go with Wood. Richard's a long ways away from being the key to the Jake Peavy deal 6 years ago. And judging by his AAA stats, he's basically a left handed Donn Roach. It's not that I have any preference of one bum over the next as a spot starter. I just think that they may as well be as constructive as possible with the innings.
  21. Because Edwin Jackson's currently being paid $13MM to exist. So why not at least get him stretched out in hopes that he looks decent enough for somebody desperate for pitching depth to bite before we end up paying him another $13MM to pitch for somebody else's AAA affiliate next year?
  22. Serious question: anyone know why Eloy Jimenez was pinch hit for in the 5th? Cause I'm finding nothing on Twitter.
  23. In all seriousness, why are we not just going with Jackson or Wood? Start by piggybacking them. How much worse can either of them be than a revolving door of whomever they see first. When our bullpen was a mess, it made sense to keep Jackson there. But now, we have 5 right handed relievers who are better at right handed relieving than he, as well as Edwards, who seems like he's ready to join, and Soriano, who's supposedly out there somewhere. Jackson's baskcally there for storage. And as long as he is, we may as well use him to do what he's being paid $13MM to do (and another 13MM next year.) If he can't do it any better than the AAAA dregs, you just suck it up and take that $20MM bath.
