  1. No, but it definitely sets a market for him. Basically 2 top pitcing prospects and 2 PTBNL. Unfortunately, we dont have the 2 top pitching prospects. Wed have to see if Marshall and J jax would constitute that. If Shark didnt have that NTC, it could be a different story. Clayton Richard is a not a top pitching prospect. All I really know about Richard is that I remember him starting in the Futures Game last year and they were talking about him like he was the Sox future ace.
  2. Inserting Hoff in is much more of a sure thing to boost the offense than inserting Fox. As good as Fox has been in AAA, there's still the chance it doesn't translate to the majors. We know Hoff can hit major league pitching. That doesn't mean I'm in favor of Soriano to 2B and Hoff to LF (I'm not in favor of Fox to 3B either), but I think that's probably Lou's thinking. Im pretty confident that Fox will be able to hit major league pitching. Theres a difference between a guy in AAA with a .325 avg and a 1.000 OPS and the kind of monster numbers Fox is putting up. As Ive stated before, id be more than willing to sacrifice Freel or Scales(granted, Id rather dump Miles than either, but that wont happen) to see what Fox can do. Worse case scenerio, hes a brutal fielder, he becomes a pinch hitter and we have 3 bad middle infielders to juggle instead of 4.
  3. According to Wrigley rat in the minor leagues board, Ascanio is going bak to Iowa. I dont know if he stated it as speculation or he heard it, but it makes 0 sense. Hes been wild at times, but shown flashes of brilliance. Meanwhile Patton has just been bad. I dont understand why they're so aprehensive to let him go back to Colorodo. They let Gaudin and Vizcaino go, and they were paying them. Id rather have Reinhard or Stevens than Patton.
  4. Neither of those items make any sense whatsoever. Ascanio has been solid out of the pen which is much more than can be said for Cotts and Patton. I could really care less if we lose Patton back to the Rockies. He does nothing that Reinhard or Stevens cant do. And whats the point of playing Fox at catcher? If he makes it to the Cubs, 3rd base is where hes needed, and however bad he is there, Im sure hes much worse, and much less needed at catcher.
  5. The Soriano at 2nd experiment would probably last about as long as the Soriano out of leadoff experiment.
  7. While were putting everyone well out of postion, just f it and sign Jim Edmonds for 3rd. Maybe try the Big Hurt at 2nd while were at it. Surely hed sign with us just to spite the White Sox.
  8. Also, while I have nothing against Brian McCann, I could probably rattle off another list of 50 players I would have chosen over him.
  9. I don't understand Lou wanting to keep him in the lineup, but talking about "resting" some of the other slumping regulars. It's not like Fontenot has a proven ML career where you can be sure he will snap out of it. The other slumping stars have better backup options. Between Font, Scales, Freel, and Miles, at this point, we need 2 of them in the lineup every day. As unpalletable as it may sound, Fontenot is the closest thing to a good player out of the bunch. Even if we do give Scales the nod at 2nd and ride out whatever magic he has left, theres still a 3 headed monster at 3rd. Id rather wait for the off chance of Fontenot breaking out than wait for Freel or Miles to stop being Freel and Miles.
  10. My predictions: Lee goes hitless Bradley goes hitless Soriano gets a leadoff hit and strikes out 3 times Theriot gets a double and grounds out in his other ABs on 1 pitch each Fukudome goes hitless but takes 2 walks Soto gets a bas ehit at a meaningless time Miles goes hitless Jake Fox hits 4 home runs Cubs win 6-1.
  11. My predictions: Fontenot goes hitless Bradley goes hitless Cubs score 1 run on a Zambrano RBI Zambrano throws a no-hitter Cubs win 1-0 ;) Its hard to get a hit when you're riding the bench.
  12. We need to amend the guidelines and make suggesting Fox at 3B a bannable offense. :D Juggling the 3 headed monster at 3rd should be a fireable offense.
  13. Third, absolutely not. DH, I'd go for that. I know Hoff deserves that DH job for IL, but the fact is, if we can bring up Fox to do it every game, and he impresses he could turn some heads and we can trade him for an infielder who isnt bad at baseball.
  14. Im really having trouble with Aramis not being on this list, especially when Carlos Quentin is, whose had 1 good season in his career.
  15. Jake Peavy+lifeless offense=easier said than done.
  16. Yeah, but those teams sure were good at knocking the tar out of the ball. 2009 Cubs, not so much.
  17. Yeah, were not going to win this game. Perhaps the series, but not the game. Just dont pitch to Adrian Gonzalez, no matter what bthe score.
  18. Relax this is a parody of the Milton Bradley thread except less funny. But seriously, Mike Fontenot has been abysmal this month. Doesnt parody suggest more funny?
  19. Agreed. The way hes pitching, I cant imagine Colorodo wanting too much for him back. Maybe a Doug Deeds or Richie Robnett type at most. If we cant make a deal, we really wont miss him.
  20. Cubs lose 1-0. multiple Cubs land on the DL, not from game play but after Z gets his hands on them for squandering a great start.
  21. Yeah, these are the games that actually frustrate me. It's one thing if the team just stinks, but it's another if they're actually driving the ball and nothing is landing for a hit or dying at the wall. Driving the ball obviously isnt working for them, and they refuse to attempt small ball. There basically playing like the White Sox, with a few sluggers who show up when they want to and a bunch of mediocre players around them.
  22. Exactly. If you want to look for a bright spot, Guzman is continuing to make the team confident that they have their 7th inning guy. is patton really going away? i hadn't heard anything about this, other than most of NSBB wanting him gone. We havnt seen the guy in ages. Theres really no need to keep him over Ascanio, who Lou actually seems to almost trust. he's a rule 5 guy, they usually go many games without playing. it's not as simple as sending him down; if he's not on the chicago cubs then he ceases to be in the organization. and?
  23. Cubs are basically playing like a middle of the pack team at best.
