  1. I'll take the Arrieta/Price/Lester/Shark/Hammel or Hendrics rotation, please.
  2. I'm not sure what that means. But without looking at any of his numbers, the fact that they signed him to a big league deal alone is what intrigues me. Guys like this tend to be signed to MiLB deals all the time. But the big league deal suggests that they think they can spin him into something more than AAAA depth.
  3. 25 year old with no big league experience to a big league deal. There was a time when I'd have been all 'wtf?' But with the FO's track record, it makes him that much more intriguing.
  4. Free agent RHP Andury Acevedo. http://www.bleachernation.com/2015/11/19/chicago-cubs-sign-free-agent-righty-andury-acevedo/ Hey, how about that. Happy Chanauka to me. But in all seriousness, if Theo and Co. like him, I like him.
  5. According to BBR, it's his first nice payday. He made 725K and 1mm in ''12 and '13 and $400-445 K in each of '07-'09 (ok, all nice paydays for me, but you know,) and those were the only years he made big league pay. 6mm must be one hell of a thrill for him, especially parlaying it out of just 4 games in 2015.
  6. But if we do land an elite FA SP to go along with Arrieta and Lester, do we really need to give up that much for what would end up being our #4 starter? With that kind of 1-3, would Hammel-Hendricks pencilled in at 4-5 really be the worst thing? Or even a bad thing? And after seeing what they've done with Maholm, Feldman, Hammel, and of course, Arrieta, I'm more than confidant that they can keep digging up bodies for Bosio to work with.
  7. Sounds more like a desire to save $10-15MM on CF to put toward starting pitching.
  8. B2B trades were based mainly on the fact that we had few prospects with any real value, and couldn't afford to part with the ones we had. No need for that type of straw grasping anymore. And it feels good.
  9. This person does not properly value Kyle Hendricks. Or overvalues Ben Revere. Drastically. The Cubs need pitching, they shouldn't be considering trading Hendricks for a mediocre OF. The should be if they have one of the best 1-2 punches in baseball in Arrieta-Lester, a 1st half ace-second half serviceable back end guy in Hammel, and the desire and ability to acquire multiple front end starters, as well as a pitching coach with the uncanny ability to turn trash into gold, or at least high-quality copper.
  10. I probably wouldn't read too much into it. They think he's interesting, it costs nothing to snag him and maybe he earns a spot or maybe later on you sneak him through waivers. Nothing lost by having him if there's optimism he can rebound. Last year they did the same thing with Joe Ortiz and he had zero impact on the MLB roster. Basically playing musical roster spots until 40 man decision time. On the other hand, now that they're ready to spend big money on big players, they're not going to have the extra 3-5 mill laying around to fill holes with lottery tickets like Maholm, Feldman, Baker, Motte, Veres, etc.
  11. Makes me think back to Kerry Wood chatting with Pat Hughes toward the end of the season, and he was saying that to a young pitcher, losing the electric stuff that took them to the top of the game, and the realization that it's not coming back, can be as devastating as being diagnosed with a fatal disease, and some guys completely fall apart physically and emotionally. And Hanson did go from being one of the most exciting young players to the bottom of the scrap heap virtually overnight.
  12. I think you mean a...Bos-back* candidate. *patent pending
  13. There's no way to sugar coat the bulk of his second half, but I have to assume that there are a lot of teams who'd love to have him as a 4 or even 3 starter. And I know that you can never have too much depth, but assuming that we were to sign a front end starter and acquire another mid rotation arm with Hendricks pencilled in at 5, with Cahill, Wood, and a parade of Bosio specials, I'm thinking he'd be more valuable as a trade chip than a swing man/mop up. Maybe packaging him with Vogelbach or Villanueva would maximize the value of both?
  14. In related news, Stephen Strasburg just curled up in a ball and began to cry.
  15. I doubt it changes the outcome, but it would have been nice to get him one more playoff start over that POS we threw out there last night. And we could just as easily be saying the opposite. Hindsight's legally blind.
  16. [bbvideo=560,315]Cubs salute fans at Wrigley Field after NLCS Game 4 http://m.mlb.com/video/v525218483[/bbvideo] Very classy way to go out. Don't remember the '03, '07, or '08 squad's doing that. Or maybe they did and I wasn't in the mood for it. Salute the new best fans in baseball.
  17. There are a million words and phrases that could be used to describe this, but the one I'm going to go with is anticlimactic.
  18. Not sure how confident I am with Hammel in this situation. But if we can win this one, Lester could easily get us back to New York, and Arrieta can easily get us to Game 7, at which point all bets are off. Stranger things have happened, right?
  19. Hate to see a run like we've been witnessing tail off in such a sad little whimper, but it looks like that's how chapter 1 of the New Era ends. I know there's still another game, and maybe another after that, but it doesn't feel that way.
  20. Game 2: Jake: W Game 3-5: At Home: 2-3 W's. Game 6 (if necessary) Jake: W There's nothing more to see here.
  21. Remember the goofy ass Cardinals fan who had that goofy ass video blog? Blond kid with glasses. Elias or Elijah or something. I wonder how he's taking this.
  22. Let's just take a night to bask in the glory that is this.
  23. Did something just happen? Something wonderful, glorious, and beautiful?
