  1. Well good. Because pitchers are pretty much the worst people in the world anyway.
  2. I remember Motte having some decent moments and some not so decent moments. I liked him as a low risk reclamation. And I've had taken him back on another 1 year. But there's nothing about him that makes me lament the loss.
  3. Here's the thibg; these kinds of back and forth, open closed trade talks have no doubt been going on since there have been GM meetings and winter Meetings. But what there hasn't always been is Twitter where every would be journalist can instantly share everything they happen to hear from a guy who knows a guy who met a guy who heard from a guy.
  4. Debate able. But there's little doubt that it's good enough to hang until June-July when the trade market begins to take form, and if need be, hopefully be more agressive than we were last summer. It should also be noted that Arietta-Lester were one of the most dominant 1-2 punches in the NL, and they were on the mound for 3 of the 5 playoff games we lost.
  5. The thought of Matt Moore for Baez was enough to pop my eyes. Then I saw his 2015 line. What happened there? Injury? Velo drop? Bad luck?
  6. Seeing as we already have nearly $10MM worth of left handed relief pitchers, I'm guessing that Jed was browsing the waiver wire while Theo was on the phone with Lackey, and asked "look, the "American Me" guy. Can I have it?" And Theo kind of waved his hand as if to say 'sure, whatever.'
  7. B-Ref has become baseball's IMDB. They've got pretty much every major, minor, international, and indie league you can think of.
  8. Any interest in the other Upton? The one who had a quiet resurgence last year, albeit in a shortened season? Could put together a blockbuster for him and Tyson Ross. Would something along the lines of They Get: Castro or Baez McKinney or Almora Hendricks Underwood 1 of Cease/Steele/Sands $ We Get: Ross Upton Something raw and low level Be fair?
  9. Sure, in the Daryle Ward PH role. But I'm guessing he'll be able to find and get paid accordingly for a relative/platoon starting role, no? Between Schwarber and Vogelbach, we have pretty solid depth at the large, left handed man position.
  10. Mike Minor, also recovering from shoulder surgery, was non-tendered as well. He and Alvarez would be worth checking in on.
  11. Though I'm still confident that we end up with a front end starter, such as Ross or Miller, it's looking like we'll be priced out of the top tier free agents and the price for mid levels such as Kazmir, Leake, and Gallardo are going to be jacked up as a result. But there are some older guys out there with some gas in the tank as well as some high profile reclamations we could we could probably sign on a 1 year. The Old: John Lackey (37) Heard his name come up earlier in the offseason. Last time we saw him, he was mad; like Ted Lilly slam your glove on the ground mad. AJ Burnett (38) I thought he was done for when the Yankees gave him away 4 years ago. He wasn't. Mark Buerhle (36) I thought he was older. If nothing else, it would piss off Sox fans. Aaron Harang (37) He survived Dusty Baker. So that in its own is worth something. The Broken: Tim Lincecum (31) Does Bosio have enough magic, or does he need a priest instead of a doctor? Josh Johnson (31) "I'm not dead yet!" "You will be in a moment, don't be such a baby." Gavin Floyd (32) Remember rGavin Floyd? Anyone worth a 1 year, incentive heavy deal?
  12. At this rate, assuming that Greinke signs within the week, Johnny Cueto's asking price will be a mid-sized planet.
  13. http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2015/11/30/9807378/cubs-adam-eaton-trade-target I was intrigued enough by the idea of Eaton as a CF stop gap. And then I came to this part. I guess it's possible that he confused Adam Eaton with Chris Sale?
  14. Judging by Kershaw, Scherzer, and now this, priority 1 should be locking up Jake.
  15. With a contract like that, the only reason he'd opt out is if he decides he doesn't like money anymore.
  16. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/11/astros-designate-l-j-hoes.html The Astros just kicked Hoes to the curb. Are we too busy to go messing around with Hoes? Hoes will be cheap, and if Hoes doesn't do what we want, we can just show Hoes the door.
  17. Ah so THAT'S who read the Julie DiCaro retweet and thought it made sense. How surprising. The who to the what now?
  18. I wonder if Vogelbach's involved in a "[expletive] it, may as well get something for the big lout" trade.
  19. Beyond the obvious 3 (Candelerio, Contreres, and Johnskn, though I also think Vogelbach who will be later traded,) I guess what it comes down to is whether Black, Francescan, and Jensen more valuable as assets than borderline replacement level depth like Jokisch, Beeler, and Rosscup.
  20. We also claimed this dude from The Mets who has a cool if not cartoonish name and strikes a ton of dudes out, but just had TJS. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/11/cubs-claim-jack-leathersich-waivers.html
