    For what?!? I don't see that as a minor trade. Yeah, if he's part of a deal, they're bringing back something pretty major...... Agreed. contending teams dont trade quality starting pitching for nothing. Im going to take a hunch here that its for Corey Hart. After sweeping the Nationals, the Brewers claimed that they were "too close to contention to sell", but maybe there last 3 games changed their minds.However, Adam Dunns another name that comes to mind. teh Giants have been on the fringe of the Dunns weepstakes all along, and Sanchez is better than Edwin jackson.

    Is DeWitt a rental or is he under a few years of team control? Any chance he'll thrive in the more hitter friendly Wrigley? Again, it makes me wonder if Fontenot will be dealt in the next few hours. I remember the Red Sox having mild interest in him at 1 point.

    So you are saying you are currently underwhelmed based on the fact you have no idea who the Cubs are getting back in the trade? I'm underwhelmed until I see the prospects we get in return. I agree. If we get some decent prospects, Im OK with it, but if not, wed be better off with the comp picks. As for DeWitt, was he ever a top prospect or just a guy who made it to the majors? I know he was a late 1st round pick in '04, 28th overall, but was he ever considered a top prospect who might thrive in a more hitter friendlt park? Otherwise, we should have just tried to make the Kelly Johnson deal happen and get prospects and cash for TLR.

    So does this mean that the Kelly Johnson deal isnt happening? If we get either DeWitt or Johnson, we almost have to dangle Fontenot and get anything we can, because theres no point having both.

    The Cubs wouldn't really be saving 43 million. It would be probably somewhere between 20-30 million depending on how the deal shakes out. But that's still a nice chunk of money to have. That could be Derrek Lees replacement right there.

    Jesus, that's even worse. If they traded Z for just Perez, without throwing in any money? I think I'd take that. You would trade a pitcher with an era under 4 when starting for a guy who's era has been in the 6's most of his career starting at roughly the same age? One pitches in a hitters park (Wrigley), and the other pitches in a pitchers park (New York). I realize that people want to blow the team up, but blowing the team up and gaining less productive players at the same age is not going to end well. If that trade were to happen, it would be more about saving 43 mil then aquiring a crappy pitcher.

    If the Mets were taking the entire remainder of Zs contract, Id do it, in which case I could care less what we did with Ollie, but I cant see the Mets being that dumb.

    Could be a 3 way deal with Ryan Ludwick going to the Pads. Westbrook may not be Roy Oswalt, but when put in the 4 slot behind Carpenter, Wainwright, and Garcia, thats a hell of a rotation.

    [expletive] the Cards. Can we just send the Reds Ted Lilly and wnything else we can give them to blow the Cards out of the water? I just hope that the Indians can bend them over like they did for DeRosa.

    If it was Schlitter, Howry, Berg, and the usual suspects, ID just be able to laugh about it, but the fact that is was Marshall and Cashner saddens me. it was the rockies last year that just destroyed our hopes of any type of come-back, after the break lst year we were starting to come around then we hit this series. I hate the Rockies. I am now thankful my wife had to work and we could make it to the game Much like this year, it was the Cubs who destroyed our hopes of any type of come-back.

    I remember that part well. I always wondered if it was because A. Howry, who looks like some type of crazed Vietnam soldier ala Full Metal Jacket, knew he could annihalate that guy if he got close enough or B. Howry knew he derved someone to charge him that night.

    Heres my thing with DeWitt. Hes a lefty 2B/3B without much power. Theriots a righty SS/2b with no power. Granted, Id prefer DeWitt over Theriot, but if what your looking for a lefty 2B/3B with just a bit of power, than why the [expletive] would you just take Mike Fontenot off the bloody bench? Meanwhile, Bakers proved he can hit lefties, but not righties ala Reed Johnson, so theres your platoon, then trade Theriot for a sack of potatoes, and call up Braney as a backup SS. Speaking of Dodgers middle infielders without power, what ever happened to than Chin Lung Hu guy? Does he still exist?

    This was posted by someone in a minor league game thread, but for those who dont follow those, it looks like theres a decent chasnce that Thomas Diamond takes Lillys spot when hes traded.

    Id trade Theriot and Russell for Johnson in a hertbeat, but isnt Johnson on a 1 year deal, in which case it doesnt make much sense.
