  1. I used to get hype up by those older "prospects" who murder AAA pitching, but it seems that they just dissapoint every time. Do Micah Hoffpauir and Jake Fox ring a bell? They seem to smoke the ball when they first come up, but then massive holes in their game are exposed by big league pitching. And its not an only the Cubs thing, because other organizations have the same thing, IE Dallas McPherson. If their going to go the AAAA route, they may as well give Brian LaHair a chance before looking outside the organization. If they insist on going after another teams failed top prospect, Id prefer Alex Gordon.
  2. Ill give you Peavy, but I really dont seee Brian Roberts or even Rich Harden as big names, not of the caliber of guys like Manny and Adrian. Harden was too high of a risk coming in to be considered that caliber, otherwise we wouldnt have gotten him for a decent pitching prospect, and low level catching prospect, and spare parts. The thing bout the White Sox is that their farm system always seems weak, but Kenny Williams always seems to get his guy. However, in this case, it all hinges on the Dodgers weekend.
  3. After that little setback in Washington, I thought that they might be losing sight of the task at hand, but they seem to back to business as usual.
  4. Judging by WSCR this afternoon, Sox fans are all ready to buy their Manny jerseys, but dont realise that the Dodgers are only 5 games out of the Wild Card race, and even if they were to trade him, I cant see them giving him up for nothing.
  5. I never really follwed the Indians, so I dont know what kind of manager Wedge was, but he did have some success. However, Freddi is still my top choice, but Wedge is an interesting option that hadnt been brought up.
  6. Obviously depending on contract, but what would be wrong with that? Especially a 1 year deal which still leaves us a chance to get Gonz/Fielder Why would Konerko sign a one-year-deal after the year he's having? Right. Kind of my point as well. Weird fear to have for us to sign Konerko for 1 year to play first. If anything, it should be the White Sox fear that the season hes having would sucker them into giving him a 4 year extension. As for Dunn, does anyone else agree that if we were to sign Dunn, and Ramirez stays, wed probably be 1 solid starting pitcher and a few respectable relievers(preferably not at Hendry-esqu contracts) away from contention? Dewitt Castro Ramirez Dunn Soto Soriano Byrd Colvin P Looks like a hell of a lineup to me.
  7. Hes back. Through 6 IP, Chris Archer has given up 0 ER 3 H 2 BB 9K. Hope I didnt jinx him.
  8. Yeah, that sweep is no way to run a reverse pennant race. Hopefully we can bounceback next series.
  9. Perfect spot for the guy with the .913 OPS imo If Geo Soto is your 8th hitter. Odds are you have one hell of a lineup or you're the dumbest organization in sports. Sadly,in the case of the Cubs, its the later.
  10. Why wouldnt they? Unless the Padres extend him, pretty much every team with the money will be after him. The Yankees may have trouble justifieng it with Teixera signed forever, but the Red Sox will go after him hard as well, and Im sure the Cubs will be right in it, especially with a decent amount of money off the books in 2012 such as Fukudome, Silva, Grabow, and I believe Zambrano.
  11. McNutt was really cruising long through 4 innings with 1 ER on 4 H and 2 BB 5 K until the 5th inning hit and he gave up a 4 spot.
  12. Hell of a sendoff that the Cobs gave Lou this afternoon. Hopefully Quade will keep Koyie Hill on the bench where he belongs.
  13. He'll likely bat him cleanup, and just for old time sake, sign a bad veteran shortstop to start for Castro.
  14. I think ARam would be claimed before he fell to the Yankees. Dont be so sure. Keep in mind he has a 2011 player option for something like 16 mil.
  15. Interesting, Robinsons Chirinos line in 6 games at Iowa (.318/.412/.580/.991) is virtually identical to his 77 at Tenn (.318/.400/.591/.991). I really hope that they give Robinson the chance to win that backup C job next year, but then again, they may prefer play him full time at Iowa and keep Castillo on as Geos backup. However, with Jim Hendry likely back for more, we may see Koyie Hill get a 3 year extension with a player option and full NTC.
  16. http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100821&content_id=13737272&notebook_id=13737372&vkey=notebook_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy With A Rod hitting the DL, could Aramis appeal to the Yankees? Even though Bostons pretty much out of it, the Rays are giving them more of a run for their money than they would have thought, and If ever there is a team that could afford to pick up his 2011 option, its them. A Rod isnt expected to miss more time than the minimum, but since this is an AL team were talking bout, when he returns Aramis would provide them with a much better DH than Marcus Thames. Im OK with keeping Aramis around next year, but if we could shed some salary and get some prospects in return, Id be all for it.
  17. Marquez didnt just pop up out of nowhere. Every year in the minors since being drafted in the 8th round in 2007, hes put up respectable numbers, with .280sh avg. and OPS in the .800 neighborhood every year (.816, .830, .794) and a bit of power 8 HR in '07, 17 in '08 and 15 in '09.
  18. He could be another guy they may want to start taking some grounders at 1st. hes 24 or 25, so a bit on the old side for a prospect, but not in Hoffpauir/LaHair/Snyder territory yet.
  19. The Cubs bullpen as a whole has to get strong consideration for MVP and CY Young of the Fecal League.
  20. Ah know! That reverse sweep of the Padres was clutch. An indifferent manager, a roster full of rookies and under-achieving veterans...the formula is there for a stretch run. Yeah, but those rookies could end up hurting the cause. They could play their buts off trying to prove themselves and end up going on a meaningless hot streak and knock us down to 7 or 8.
  21. If this nightmare of a season were to end today, the top 5 picks in the 2011 draft would go: 1. Pirates 2. Orioles 3. D Backs 4. Mariners 5. CUBS Thats right, we cracked the top 5. to quote the worst annoucer ever, "dont stop now boys"
  22. Im starting to think that this might not be the year.
  23. This group of individuals who are marginally skilled at baseball resembles a major league baseball team less and less every day.
