  1. I know we like to refer to players as being "bad at baseball", bit if it were true, they wouldnt be where they are. You dont make it to the big leagues on accident, be it Albert Pujols or Bobby Scales. Look at guys who crush minor league pitching, but cant do squat at the big league level. Send them to Japan, they could become superstars. This is because Major League Baseball is where the best players in the world come to play. end of story.
  2. If nothing else, our rag tag bunch of AAAAers is hopefully showing that we dont need to waste money on veteran bench players next year.
  3. [expletive] Koyie Hill. At this point, theres 0 reason not to call up Robinson Chirinos and give him and Castillo the majority of the time behind the plate.
  4. Didnt Mark Buerhle say the same thing?
  5. Thats usually how a rebuild works. Team sucks for a few years while they hope that the young players grow and the pump out more from the farm system. It works for teams like the Rockies and Rays, but for others, like the Royals and Pirates, its doesnt. This is basically more for mower budget teams and not teams like the Cubs, but its pretty much how they were ru throughout the 90's.
  6. Im not disagreeing with you at all about not needing to be rebuilt, however, I guess the term rebuilt means different things to different people. When I think of rebuilding, I dont think of getting rid of our veterans just to go after new FA vets. I think of getting rid of vets and building a team around guys like Castro, Soto, and Colvin and building around them with our farm hands, and scouting other teams for potential low risk/high reward players, IE Alex Gordon. However, with all the money that is in this team, it isnt realistic, and adding a bat like Adam Dunn to what we already have can open our window right back up even if it is for only a year or 2. As far as additions, Dunns really the main target, but I wouldnt be opposed to adding another starter if there was a decent buy low option like Eric Bedard or Justin Ducherer for cheap if possible.
  7. With the weak FA class,Fuku might be a good sell high candidate , but thers no other high paid player we could get enough money for to be worth it. Even if they didnt, with the Lee and Lilly money off the books, we should be able to afford Dunn. Fuku/DeWitt(if we trade Kosuke) Castro Ram Dunn Soto Soriano Byrd DeWitt/Colvin would be a pretty solid lineup. if we could get the Z we have now and the Demp weve had most of the season, we could probably put together a decent 3-5 between Wells, Gorz, Cashner, Silva, Coleman, Jackson, Shark and maybe Carpenter or Archer. Guz, Marshall, and Marmol would be as good a back bullpen as there is. Between Colvin, Chirinos, Barney, Hoff, Snyder, LaHair, Marquez Smith, and Fuld we could piece together a decent bench without wasting money on it.
  8. Now that Aramis has announced his plans to stay, doesnt it almost force the Cubs hand to at least try to make 2011 a win now year? Considering the money they'll be paying Ram, Z, Soriano, Kosuke, Demp, and Silva, it will be impossible to make it a rebuilding year. I say go get a solid 1B and go for it next year.
  9. Pitcher and player of the year. Pretty surprised this hasnt been posted yet.
  10. With the virtual death blows to the Cards and White Sox, Id say last night was the best night of this disaster of a season. At least I wont have to endure the Cardinals/White Sox World Series that I was bracing myself for early in the summer.
  11. Did Starlin Castro happen to run over Mike Quades dog? Just curious.
  12. The Cubs never even implied that it was because of attendance. And he was not the only one from that department to lose his job. The Ricketts apparently wanted their own guy last year which cost this guy his authority and then they decided they didn't need him at all after this year (along with the 3 others who were fired). The fact that they hired a new person as soon as they came on board makes me think that it truly is just restructuring the department to what the Ricketts want and not anything these people did. I can think of other departments in the organization that need restructuring far more than sales and marketing.
  13. You mean the "Jim Hendry Special"? The same. There has to be another player out there whose on a similarly bad contract, but an all around inferior player that we can trade him for.
  14. He may make some team very happy next year after we trade him for some borderline prospects and partial salary relief.
  15. Yes. And Jake Fox, Micah Hoffpauir, Brad Snyder, Dallas McPherson, and countless other AAAAers in their late 20's. Every organization has them. I do wish that the Cubs would give them chances rather than signing the likes of Nady, Miles, and Hill, but now that they're a bit more cash strapped, we'll likely be seeing these guys filling out bench spots over the next few years rather tharandom free agents. As for Barney, Fuld, and Scales, I guess I agree on Fuld and Scales, but Barneys just as good as any backup MI that Hendry could overpay for, and I have nothing against giving him PT.
  16. Too bad they couldnt make Koyie Hill and a few random relief pitchers go away and bring up Chirinos, Smith, and Lahair.
  17. Yeah, that little brain fart sure was a make or break play in the 18-5 loss.
  18. Nope; Memphis gets the playoff spot because of a better record in head-to-head play against Iowa. Iowa's season is over. I expect the Cubs to make some call-ups tomorrow. Chirinos, LaHair, Snyder, and Smith all deserve the call. As for Guyer, as far as current big league players, any idea what his ceiling is?
  19. Yeah, these past 102 years have been the roughest 102 years of my life. I mean 1907 and 1908 were great years, but watching this team has been rough ever since, but If suffered this long, so why stop now? Exactly the spirit! If you've lost for 102 years, what's another few in the grand scheme of things? Let the Quade era begin! The 102 years makes for a good story, but thats about it. Most Indians and Giants fans have never seen a champ in their lifetime. Brewers, Mariners, Rangers, and Astros for sure never have.
  20. I hate to stick up for Tony LaRussa, but who the [expletive] is Colby Rasmus to request a trade? I may not like Tony LaRussa, but hes one of the most respected managers in the history of thr game, and Rasmus is a 24 year old with 2 solid but not spectacular seasons under his belt. Its the equivelent of Tyler Colvin requesting a trade.
  21. Yeah, these past 102 years have been the roughest 102 years of my life. I mean 1907 and 1908 were great years, but watching this team has been rough ever since, but If suffered this long, so why stop now?
  22. Id like to think that they wouldnt consider throwing their top pitching prospect into middle relief on a big league club with 0 playoff chance, but I never underestimate the stupidity of this organization anymore.
  23. Yeah, I was wondering that myself. Doesnt sound like a good thing by any means with only 29 pitches.
