  1. God forbid they brought up Snyder or Lahair who are smoking the ball instead of the poor mans Scott Podsednik.
  2. I bet this 12 year old got her silly bands all bent out of shape when Ryan Theriot was traded.
  3. I know there are reports that Hoffpauir will be recalled in Lees place, but Hoffs DHng in Iowa this evening, however, Brian LaHair is playing 1B. Could they be entertaining the idea of bringing him up instead?
  4. Now if we were able to off-load half his contract and get a couple of prospects from the BoSox, that would be something. in 3rd place and 6 games back, the Red Sox arent completly out of it, but I dont think there close enough to contention to warrant giving up anything of value for Fukudome, especially considering the fact that the 2 teams ahead of them are signifacantly better.
  5. If theres 1 thing I love about White Sox games, its Hawk goes completely silent moments, and I just witnessed a classicl After being down the whole game, Alexie Ramirez hit a leadoff home run on the 9th to tie it, and an RBI single to take a 1 run lead in the top of the 10th. Hawk and Stoney are singing Alexeis praises and Hawks usual ramblings.s Leadoff single by Delmon Young, and Jim Thome to the plate with Hawk still babbling. Next thing you know, walk off 2 run no doubter, and Hawk falls completely silent.
  6. Looks lonely in here Freddy. Were there ejections or something? Looking at the box score, there looks lik a lot of random switches for the th inning.
  7. Ugly day for Archer. went 3.2 IP, gave up 4R with 7 BB and 5 K. Wouldnt be quite as ugly without all those walks.
  8. Junior went 3-5 with 2 2B and a BB. Chirinos seems to be picking up where he left off with his first AAA HR.
  9. Castro is no longer surprise to me. He seems like the real deal.
  10. I didnt realise that Chirinos was called up to Iowa, although I assumed it would happen when Castillo was called up.
  11. Nah, I disagree with that. The Cubs have the fanbase they do due to the size of the city they play in, their longevity and, most of all, WGN TV and radio. Anyone who defines themselves as a Cubs fan by the team's futility is just the worst. It's not the futility, it's the desire to end the futility. If you were right, I would have been a fan of the Braves instead of the Cubs, because the Braves are on TV almost every day in the south, and have been for decades. Where are all the White Sox fans? Based on your criteria, wouldn't they have the 3rd or 4th largest fan base? I think they fall in the 20ish range? White Sox don't have national coverage and the Braves had national coverage for like a blip compared to what the Cubs have had between WGN TV and radio. Atlanta is also a much smaller market and city than Chicago and they've only had the Braves for 44 years. The drought is what makes the Cubs the Cubs. Its what gives the an international appeal. If it werent the case, and theyd won the series in say '69 or '84, wed likely still have a solid fan base, as the Cubs are a big market team. However, the 100+ year drought gives them an appeal and history that no other team has. If it werent for the drought, the Cubs would probably have a decent big market fan base like the Dodgers or Phillies, but nothing like it is now. Another reason that the Cubs and White Sox have such a massive gap between fan bases is the location. Wrigley and Wrigleyville attract a crowd themselves, incuding people who have no interest in baseball otherwise, as opposed the the White Sox, who may as well be the Gary White Sox, because they play in an area without the curb appeal of Wrigleyville. Keep in mind, before 2005, the Sox were on a 90 something year drought, and when they made the series, nobody gave a damn, making the Sox/Astros series the lowest rated World Series since the inception of televison ratings.
  12. Its not Koyies fault that his manager would rather play a journeyman backup catcher who will be gone next year over a guy who might actually have a future.
  13. Well...... I, for one, care. As do I. Same here. I mean, I don't know if "care" is the right word, but I love baseball, this is my team and I want to watch and I want them to win. Well I guess I'm the same way because they are on my TV right now. At this point, I care about individual player performances, specifially the young guys and those were stuck with for the next few years. As for winning or losing, Im all about getting the best draft pick possible.
  14. Are you saying you think the Reds are on their way to the WS? The thing about the NL is now that the Phillies are mostly injured, theres really no 1 team that stands out as a dominant force. If the Cards, Giants, or Phils get in, their 1-2-3 in the rotation would each be tough to contend with, but at this point in time, all 3 are on the outside looking in. And I do agree that no NL team is ny match for the Rangers, Rays, or Yankees. Twins or White Sox, now thats a different story, but I dont see either of them beating the other 3. Edmonds is a nice additon to the Reds, In fact, seeing Edmonds and Rolen team up to beat out the Cardinals might make this season almost worthwhile.
  15. Looks like were battling KC for that #6 pick. Make it happen Cobs.
  16. 8-8-88--Let there be light! (And let there be rain.) As if the baseball gods themselves were voicing their displeasure. Its not rain, its just the baseball gods urinating on the Cubs, as theyve been doing for the past 102 years.
  17. Go Reds! I could care less about Dusty Baker or Joey Votto at this point, theres no part of me that doesnt want to see the Reds beat out the Cardinals for the division. Once October hits, Id be perfectly happy to see the crushed like bugs.
  18. I know this is a Cub board. But really? You really think there are only 4 teams this year that have at least 2 pitchers this year that are better then Randy Wells? I can think of 5 more just at the top of my head. Sort by xFIP Knock yourself out. Sabermetrics or not, I dont think youd get too many people to believe that Wells is better than the 2/3 starters for the Giants, Rangers, White Sox, Padres, Yankees, Braves, or Reds, Fact is, as a 3-4-5, Dempster, Wells, and Gorz may be as good as it gets, but as a 1-2-3, not so much.
  19. I'm going to have to disagree here, I think. Chirinos had 306 at bats in AA prior to this season. But, he's shown himself very well last year in Daytona and this year in Tennesse as well. Soto had 736 very pedestrian at bats in Iowa before it clicked for him there in his third try as well. Definitely not saying Chirinos will ever be anything other than a backup C, but I do think I'd take him over Castillo. Chris Robinson wouldn't even enter into the equation for me anyway. When September call ups are made, Im betting that Castillo is called up and Chirinos goes to Iowa. The only reason I could think of why Chirinos hasnt made it to Iowa yet is because Castillo is the starter there, and they want Chirinos as an everyday starter as well, not a backup. Otherwise, theres no reason he should be blocked by Chris Robinson.
  20. Maybe if we threw in Grabow they throw in Billy Butler.
  21. Great day for the Tennessee boys Carpenter 6IP 0ER 2BB 8K Jackson, Chirinos, Canzler, and Thomas each with 2 hits w/ a 2B each
  22. This offense really is frustrating. Although it looks like we developed a decent back of the rotation starter out of pretty much nowhere, so at least there's that. Wells?? He's more than a decent back of the rotation starter Any calculations on what his ERA would look like if you took out that horrible stretch, I believe in May and June?
