  1. There was a report that Houston had rejected an off of Brendan Ryan along with his .192/.259/.279 line and "another player" earlier in the week. If Im the Astros, Id maybe take Ryan as a throw in in a deal for Brett Myers.
  2. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100724&content_id=12587800&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb Sounds like someones going to need them a first baseman real soon. Adam Dunn and Prince Fielder just got themselves a new, serious suiter. However, might we interest them in a cheaper alternative, at least as far as prospects go?
  3. Ive never heard of Frank Batista before today, but the guy Kd 10 through 4.2 IP with 0 BB. However, he did leave down 0-2, but still thats pretty impressive.
  4. If their talking about The Nats and Adam Dunn, do neither Ozzie nor Kenny Williams have no concept of the value of a Type A free agent with no chance of accepting arbitration? If they mean The Brewers and Prince Fielder, do they not realize that this is one of the best young hitters in the game and under team control for another year, not to mention that the Giants would probably move Jonathon Sanchez, or even Madison Baumgartner, in which case they could probably take John Danks and/or Gavin Floyd and stick them where the sun dont shine?
  5. Darwin Barneys offensive ceiling is probably Ryan Theriot, but hes a much better defender. This being said, I think we'll see him on the 25 man next year, and he'll go on to a solid major league career as a backup SS on a good team or a starting SS on a bad one. However, considering that we dont have a proper backup SS, Id like to see him fill that spot sooner than later and trade Theriot and go with the Font/Baker platoon.
  6. Former Cub Greg Gross? Was this one of those guys who maybe came up in September and played 5 games?
  7. That was no cheapy. If Starlin really gets the power going, watch out Hanley.
  8. shhhh. That kind of talk will get you in trouble. Great comment by Bob. "If you cant get a base hit over Aaron Miles head, it just wasnt meant to be. Hes only about 3'4"
  9. Pujols? Lol. They stole McGwire and Rolen, but those weren't within division. If that "other player" isnt names Rasmus or Wainwright, and the Astros accept, they may as well just stop being a major league baseball team.
  10. I thint that the Nationals have demanded Gordon Beckham and the Brewers want Gavin Floyd or John Danks because they dont regard Hudson as more than a 3-4 starte, which would be an upgrade for them because besides Gallardo, the Brewer rotation is full of 4-5 starters at best. I think that Foyd or Danks plus for Fielder who is under team control for another year would be reasonable if Jake Peavy hadnt gone down for the year, maybe longer. Get rid of 1 of those 2, all of the sudden what was supposed to be one of the best rotations in the game at the beginning of the year becomes mediocre at best, especially if/when Freddy Garcia comes down to earth. Also, if your going to trade away top young players like Beckham, Floyd, or Danks, you better be making a move that will get you to the World Series, and in the White Sox case, I think that they, the Twins, and the Tigers are all only good enough to be 1st round knock offs with the Yankees and Rangers in their way.
  11. Much like with Dan Haren, if the Cards were to have a rotation of Carpenter, Wainwright, Oswalt, Garcia, whoever and Pujols, Holliday, Rasmus, and Ludwick in the heart of the lineup, whatever other garbage they use to fill their roster with, it wouldnt matter and the other 5 NL Central teams may as well just start thinking Wild Card for the next few years. This would be devestating to the Astros already feeble fan base, trading one of the few fan favorites they have to a division rival. Think Portland, Charlotte, or Indianapolis Astros devestating.
  12. Pretty good day in Tennessee Jackson 1-4 3B Vitters 2-4 2B Canzler 3-4, 2B short of cycle Clevenger 3-3 HR, 4 RBI Thomas 2-3
  13. Little of both. If it were all about prospct status, I doubt that oldies Lalli, LaHair, Austin B-D, Snyder, or even Chirinos would be on the list.
  14. Id definitely pick Russ Canzler easily over 38 year old Blake Lalli. Also, Samardjzia, despite the walks should get consideration for the 5th rotation spot.Id also put together a bench of: C Wellington Castillo IF Darwin Barney IF Tony Thomas-0possibly Junior Lake due to the ceiling and recent hotness-Actually, Id probably start Thomas over DJ and the bench spot would be a toss up between DJ and Lake) OF Brad Snyder(maybe Id start him over Lahair, but its a toss up) OF Brandon Guyer
  15. Damn, Miles was getting some Latroy Hawkins style boos there. Good to have such a nice, stress free W. I wonder if this will be the start of the hot streak that deacs Hendry into becoming a buyer, or at least not selling.
  16. Im starting to wonder if they should put him in the pen for the remainder of the AAA season and then call him up in September. He seems to have a lot of those games where hes cruising along and then gets in trouble. Also, at least in the immediate future, we'll likely be in more need of quality relief pitchers. Between Jay and Cashner, Id much rather Cashner in the rotation.
  17. Hak Ju Lee already with a double tonight. The kids on fire. Junior Lake also with a 2 RBI triple and Brad Snyder with a 2 RBI double.
  18. Kenny Williams is a smart GM, so youd think hed understand that the Nats or Brewers have absolutely 0 need to move these guys until the deadline unless they get exactly what they want, especially The Brewers who have Fielder through 2011 and if they do decide to trade him can get just as much if they wait until the offseason or even next years deadline.
  19. Another solid start by Samardzjia: 5 IP 2 R 1 ER 3 BB 6 K And who is Corey Martin, appartently 2009s 27th round/830th pick, and how did he leapfrog everyone on earth from Peoria to Iowa? Looking at his numbers, he wasnt very good at Peoria to begin with.
  20. Jason Heyward is going to the same swoon as Colvin at this point. I know Heywards younger, and has a higher ceiling, but at this point Heyward: .257/.370/.456 11 HR Colvin .262/.314/.514 13 HR Besides, if it really does come down to nothing more than a popularity contest and the biggest story/hype, may as well have handed the award to Strasburg the moment he made his first big league pitch.
  21. You're the driver and president of the "Colvin needs to start everyday" bandwagon, so you're not allowed to jump on the Colvin sucks bandwagon. As I said, I havnt. He just needs a day off or 2. Seems like hes been exposed, however, the sucess of a guy who come to the bigs and starts out hot doesnt depend on whether or not opposing pithchers figure him out and adjust, its if hes able to adjust to their adjustments.
  22. Im surprised that the usual suspects didnt have a field day with this comment, but I kind of agree. Its understandable to drop the soap when you have a guy on 2nd with nobody out, but we had some great chances 3 innings in a row and couldnt do anything with it. If we were anywhere near contention at this point, this might go down as the most frustrating loss of the season, and thats saying alot this season.
  23. Lee is really starting to turn it on. Hes a fun kid to watch play, I just hope he keeps up the progress, because a middle infield of Lee/Castro could be really really fun to watch. I was listening to the radio, I forget if it ws this morning or this afternoon before the game, and someone suggested getting rid of Theriot and bringing Hak all the way up to the big leagues. I cant see that happening, but I think its interesting. It was one of the analysts too, not some goofball caller.
  24. I blame Milton Bradley. His bad vibes continue to cloud Wrigleys amosphere, keeping Sorianos ball from carrying from shallow center to deep center.
  25. I believe this will make us what 0-3 in series against the last place Astros this season? Yet we are 1-0-1 in series against Philly? Don't forget about 0-4 against the Pirates also. Pirates are really an awesome team. Every other team in baseball just plays extra hard against them.
