  1. So with A Gon to Boston, Youk likely moves to 3rd signifying the end of Adrian Beltres short Red Sox career. Any chance that he could play 1st, or try Aramis at 1st and sign Beltre for 3rd?
  2. 8 million dollars. Surely we could have afforded that. I guess the upside is that the Cards will have a painfully bad defensive outfield. Still, for 8 mil, he would have been a great option.
  3. Why? Sell me on it...because based on the numbers he doesn't look like a particularly good player. Decent power but no patience, he's been a negative with the glove in all 3 seasons he's been on the Rangers, and negative offensive numers 2 of the 3 years. He spent most of the year in the minors this year and didn't make the postseason roster for them this year. And now he's gonna the starting 1B for the Cubs? Hes basically someone elses Jake Fox/Micah Hoffpauir. This being said, it doesnt look as though the Cubs will be contending in '11 anyway, so I rather at lest see what the 24 year old can do instead of Lyle Overbay or Russell Branyan, and if all it costs us is a blocked backup catcher, why the hell not. However, I really dont see why we have to give up anything in addition to Castillo or Chirinos unlkess they want one of our expendable AAAA relievers.
  4. Reading this from last night after the fact makes me even sadder. Stupid Cubs. stupid Hendry.
  5. if we cant get Carlos Pena, judging by the remaining cast of characters, Id just as soon sign Derrek Lee to a 1 or 2 year deal. Assuming that Miguel Tejada is setting the bar for guys in their late 30's coming off off seasons, he must know he wont be looking at a ton of money from anyone. He may be older, but hes still a much better player than Branyan, Overbay, Johnson, or LaRoche will ever be. Even if we do sign Lee for a year and an option, I dont see why cant still make a trade for Chris Davis and give him an audition for the future as long as it would only cost us a blocked back up catcher.
  6. With Dunn off the market, and the likelyhood of A Gon signing long term with the Red Sox if the deal happens, I think that we need to accept the fact that Carlos Pena is this years Marlon Byrd, meaning the least awful option at the position were trying to fill.
  7. I agree, not sure about urinating on him but I cannot see how the Cubs do not have the pieces to make a trade. I know ideally you would like to sign him and not give up anything but he is the guy I think the Cubs need to snag some how. Problem is that the Red Sox being the Red Sox, they likely have every intention of locking him in for the next 6-8 years. 2012 Prince Fielder just got a lot more expensive.
  8. Delcarmen(wasnt he an uber-prospcet for the Red Sox a few years ago), Okajima, Jenks, Milledge, Maine, Church, Sherrill, and Wang are all flyer worthy. And I see no harm in re claiming Donnie Veal for little to no cost, unless of course MacPhail has already pounced on him. Has`Cust ever fielded a position at any point in his big league career?
  9. I dont blame Hendry in the slightest for the White Sox signing Dunn, but if the Red Sox got A Gon for a package we could have matched, I want to urinate on him.
  10. Win it all for him.
  11. As far as relievers go, Hideki Okajima and Bobby Jenks were non tendered by their respective teams. If we could get either for cheap, Id be very interested. Also non tendered, Todd "Fat Guy Who Sprints to the Mound" Coffey, who seems like more of a Jim Hendry target.
  12. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/12/cardinals-make-brendan-ryan-available.html Why do I feel like we're in on a joke to which only the Cubs and the Dodgers know the answer? With rumors of Adrian Gonzalez, Zack Greinke, and Prince Fielder on the trading block, I knew that it could be an interesting offseason, but now that Brendan Ryan and his .658 career OPS just became available, its a whole new ballgame.
  13. One way or another, Kenny Williams always seems to get what he wants. You can't be [expletive] serious. Its not always good, he just seems to get what he wants.
  14. One way or another, Kenny Williams always seems to get what he wants.
  15. I don't like the idea of signing a bad contract just to sign somebody. We do have a hole at first base, but giving out too many years and too much money to Dunn is not the answer. I'd much rather see us give a good contract to Nick Johnson and re-asses next year than to be saddled with another contract that could go bad for us while Soriano is still on the books. Id much rather go after Alex Gordon or Chris Davis or just take our chances with Brian LaHair or a Colvin at 1st experiment than dip into the Johsnon/Branyan/Pena/Overbay pool. The fact is, wiothout a big splash, this team isnt going to contend, so I dont think it will make a difference which has been or never will be happens to be manning 1st base.
  16. Im assuming that you mean Adrian, unless you mean The Braves Alex Gonzalez, or perhaps the guy who botched a double play in '03.
  17. AJ's on his way North of the Border it seems... Yup.
  18. I bet you wanted Soriano a few years ago. That was definitely too steep. Dont forget MIlton Bradley
  19. now, now, nobody said anything about a good lefty bat. were a few of our own failed prospects away from becoming the Baltimore Orioles.
  20. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20101129&content_id=16224882&vkey=news_chc&c_id=chc So basically, the same wish list as every year. Lyle Overbay+a few middling relievers in their early-mid 30's sounds about right. yay us.
  21. The Dodgers signed Jon Garland The Cardinals picked up Theriot. Micah Hoffpauir off to Fight the Ham.
  22. Henry Blanco was a light hitting backup catcher. Koyie Hill is a complete non-entity at the plate and a negative to the team. He's got a career OPS+ of 49 and has over 500 PA the past two seasons. That's bad. And will end up in almost a platoon with Geo. Awesome. Only if Quade has the same knee jerk doghouse that Lou did.
