  1. schwarber is trying to give it to him. NEVER. Besides, David's sig would look all hackneyed Shut up. Schwarber's still awesome because he's Schwarber. Stats be damned, both advanced and otherwise.
  2. One of the ugliest wins I've seen in quite some time; but a win, nevertheless.
  3. Yeah, I think I can live with a poor man's Adam Dunn/rich man's Mark Reynolds as our 4th-6th best hitter for years to come.
  4. Why is there a team called the Baby Cakes? Did somebody lose a bet?
  5. Order all the stem cells, or however it works Shelby Miller To Have Tommy John Surgery https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/04/shelby-miller-tommy-john-surgery-diamondbacks.html So where does his trade rank amongst the most one sided of all time? Pretty high, I would have to imagine.
  6. they have 4 and Jake is throwing batting practice It's April. We're very likely to be good. We haven't even played well and are in first. We won the world series. If we hang on to this one, it will be the most painful 4 game win streak in recent memory.
  7. 2nd game in a row that I tuned out before a big comeback that I kinda-sorta expected. As long as I can rememberer, Brewer Ball has been to score a horsefeathers-ton of runs and give up a horsefeathers-ton and two. We just haven't been good enough to capitalize until the past few years. That Eric Thames is looking to be one heck of a score for them, but time will tell if he's more Cecil Fielder or Bryan LaHair.
  8. And this, more than anything, is indicative that baseball season is indeed underway.
  9. I'm still wrapping my head around the fact that we not only have a "the 3" as good as KB, Rizz, and Schwarb, but an additional 3 in Russell, Contreras, and Baez, who would alone be an exciting "the 3" for most teams.
  10. Did they forget that Ryan Howard's been awful to the tune of -4.5 WAR since 2012? Seriously, I could see an AL fringe contender taking a flier for the possibility of an August call up, but, The Braves? Just..why?
  11. I know that none of these teams are going anywhere, but yeesh.
  12. This. I, for one, do not miss the days of desperate hopes of guys like Eric Jokisch, Wes Darvill, Jae Hoon Ha, and Robert Whitenack could blossom into serviceable-ish big leaguers.
  13. 1. Snow White 2. Rip Van Winkle 3. Princess Aurora 4. Lazy Smurf Sorry. I couldn't resist.
  14. I'd say we could get another Eddie Butler or Alec Mills type for him. And as questionable as our post 2017 SP options are, I'd say we should be stocking up on those.
  15. Not sure if there's a WBC thread (heck, I didn't even know there was a WBC going on until yesterday,) but this evening, Ryan Dempster will take the mound for Team Canada as they take on Carlos Martinez and The Dominican Rupublic. Meanwhile, in where are they now news, Jason Marquis is the apparent ace for Team Israel, Jair Jurjens for the Netherland's, and Ryan Searle's in Team Australia's pen. That is if anybody cares about the WBC. Which they probabaly don't.
  16. At some point, Tommy LaStella is sent down in favor of an extra arm, and he becomes very angry.
  17. For a fist full of cash and pair of non-prospects, one of them being former Cubs farmhand Andrew McKirahan.
  18. But what if he comes up and hits .400/.600/a billion in his first month and it's the worst mistake ever made by anybody ever until it turns out that it really wasn't?
  19. Pretty sure there's a few dozen of these guys every offseason. It's just that nobody really notices it unless they make a stop or 2 with their team.
  20. With Bosio's track record and all that we didn't give up for him and what isn't at stake, who wouldn't?
  21. I know that to call Casey Kelly a long shot is being generous, but he's a pretty big one to be snuck in there with not fanfare.
  22. There's also the fact that Thome was the consummate media darling. And I know that shouldn't be a factor, but it is.
  23. In what world have Derek Lee and Magglio Ordonez been retired for 5 years? *checks BBR.* I guess this one. Wow.
  24. I'm honestly pretty excited about bringing him back :D . I know he didn't contribute much on the field, but he seemed like a great teammate that keeps everyone loose/makes them laugh (in a good way). I was worried we were going to lose him since we would only be offering him a minor league deal/spring training invite. Kawasaki seems like a great guy. I didn't used to be so big on team chemistry, but that D. Ross signing and the overall effect it had on this team has won me over. Ross wasn't so much signed for chemistry as he was a personal muse to Lester. That and everyone needs a backup catcher, few of which are going to be able to hit their way out of a wet paper bag. Kawasaki's a mascot and to grant the media their 'look, the Chinaman (yes, I know) thinks he's people' interviews.
