  1. 3 Guys I could see taken. 1. Dallas Beeler. In a weak free agent pitching market, a lot of teams are going to be stocking up on whatever they can get their hands on. 2. Bijan Rademacher's a safe bet for anyone looking for a 4th/5th OF. Could fall into the Bour/Guyer mold, and do well enough for a 'good for him,' but not a regret. 3. Dillon Maples: Your classic 'if we can get him to throw more strikes...' Not big league ready, but could split time between the back of someone's pen and the DL. And then there's Black, Rivero, and Paniagua, who could be picked as easily as not. Though the Rule 5 tends to feature a multitude of guys just like them, or at least who serve the same purpose.
  2. 1. Eloy 2. Happ 3. Candelerio 4. Cease 5. DeLaCruz 6. Paredes 7. DeWees 8. Zagunis 9. EJM 10.Caratini 11. Moreno 12. Zaz 13-whatever: put Sands, Steele, Williams, Tseng, Underwood, Mitchell, Wilson, Hatch, Twomey, Mekkes, Kellogg, Clifton, and some other dudes in a brown paper bag, shake it well, and take your pick.
  3. Cubs Claim David Rollins https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/11/cubs-claim-david-rollins.html I am not familiar with this pitcher. He'll no doubt be put right back on waivers, and if nobody claims him, free AAAA depth.
  4. Front end pitching is always going to have a high cost. And when the free agent pitching market is highlighted by Rich Hill and Jeremy Hellickson, I expect teams to ask for Baez, at the very least, for guys like Jimmy Nelson or Josh Tomlin, let alone Sale, Quintana, or Archer.
  5. Is there anything to him other than the jersey incident, which sounds like something that would have been a deleted scene from Major League II? I know he's not thrilled with the direction of the team, but it's hard to blame him for that.
  6. Am I the only one who remembers Republicans threatening to move to Canada if Obama were elected, and then reelected? And if Jake could put fixing whatever it is that caused him to regress from Cy Young winning ace to mostly reliable 3-4 starter overnight before celebrity travel arrangements, that would be fabulous.
  7. I think they took the list down, as I couldn't find it on the app and this link doesn't work, but I was looking at it last night, and Brett Anderson's in the honorable mentions. Really surprised that he's only 28, but he could be one heck of a reclamation if healthy.
  8. At the time, it was perhaps the worst moment of my life. Now, it's but an element of the greatest film never written.
  9. Maybe this would be as good a place as any to finally learn what the whole 'heroin injection into the forehead' reference means.
  10. I also want more pitching, but it's more about post 2017 than anything. Now hopefully this isn't too soon, but it's what plenty of GM's have been thinking since the initial shock over then tragic loss of Jose Fernandez wore off, and that's that it jacked up the price for guys like Terheran, Archer, Gray, and Odirizzi, and especially Sale by a lot. And due to the anemic free agent SP market, it was already up there. But these are the guys we should be looking at- us and everyone else. Other than that, I'm curious how serious the resurgence of Jeremy Helickson is, especially with the Bosio factor, but this free agent market isn't a very good one to test said curiosity.
  11. If Opening Day were tomorrow, our depth chart would look something like: 1B Rizzo 2B Javy, Zo SS Russell, LaStella, Javy 3B KB, LaStella, Javy LF Schwarber, Soler, Szczur CF Heyward, Almora RF Zobrist, Heyward, Soler C Contreras, Miggy, Schwarber Rotation: SP Lester SP Hendricks SP Jake SP McHorseteeth SP Montgomery BP: CL Rondon, Edwards, Strop, Grimm, Zaz, Crow, Leathersich And I'm cool with that. Very cool. This isn't to say that I wouldn't be happy with Chapman or Jansen. This isn't to say I wouldn't be happy if we resigned Fowler. This isn't to say that I wouldn't be happy with Cespedes. This isn't to say that I wouldn't be happy if we traded for someone like Teheran, Archer, Odirizzi, Gray, or another young SP. We really don't have any needs. But wants are fun too.
  12. http://www.bleachernation.com/2016/11/03/cubs-claim-rhp-conor-mullee-off-waivers-from-yankees-because-nothing-else-is-going-on/ I can just imagine the post game party going on. Suddenly, Theo's eyes go blank as he wanders through a tidal wave of champagne and adoration muttering to himself "must. acquire. middle reliever."
  13. I remember a sense of satisfaction with Kyle Hendricks as a secondary piece in the Dempster trade, but I don't recall what the expectations were. But I can be certain that nobody expected for him to be not only the guy to take the mound for the two biggest games in Cubs history, but be the guy we wanted to take the mound for them.

  15. Kyle doesn't celebrate. Kyle casually rides off into the sunset while being celebrated.
  16. I seriously think The Cubs should invite him to participate in the impending festivities.
  17. His going to David Ross for emotional support is among my fondest memories of the season.
  18. And why has not this thread been eternally stickied to the front page? Serious question.
  19. is it ok if he goes through the world series parade before he gets fired? Holy horsefeathers is that post real? That is rather absurd. But I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't having trouble containing my hate for that horsefeathering ump, Sam Hellbrook, not to mention the occasional burst of anxiety interfering with the overall feeling of euphoria every time my mind wanders back to that 8th inning.
  20. By now, everybody in the country and beyond knows of the curse and the drought, all that came in between. But perhaps the more improbable story is the train wreck of an organazition that this front office walked into when they took over vs. what they parlayed it into in just 4 short years. And that's something that's difficult for a lot of fans to not only appreciate, but comprehend, whether they've been waiting 2 months or 108 years for this.
  21. He did what he said he was going to do, how he was going to do it, and when he was going to do it. Master.
  22. It's nor like Francona managed a great one. Like Maddon, his lack of faith in his middle relief forced him to burn through the 2 guys he did trust before he should have. And then he pulled Coco Crisp, owner of an .885 OPS in the WS and .922 for the post season in favor of a defensive sub, who was the offensive equivalent of Jason Heyward with mono.
  23. Maybe even more poignantly, they didn't even notice. I think it was more a case of shame on us for thinking that we were going to just cruise to a 5-1 W.
