    Soler and who combines for the corner OF? Almora? I was under the impression that he had a chance to be special if he could stick in center but that he probably wouldn't be much of anything special as a corner OF. I don't think that corner OF would come close to top 5 in baseball by 2016. I sure hope Rizzo is a top 10 1B, but some projections have him struggling to break into that level.

    Losing this series would be a fairly typical outcome of any three game series during a baseball season. Not epic at all, unless they managed to lose 20-0 every game.

    Not sure what the game thread starting rules are, but this game is on today. So, there's that. Milwaukee is 1-5 and has been outscored by 17 runs, while the Cubs are 2-4 and are -8.

    I went to Opening Days at Wrigley in 2007 and 2008 and both times the weather was miserable. 2008 was in the 60s. Very humid and it had just rained, but far from miserable by opening day standards. Not a home opener but in 1996 I was at a game against the Dodgers that was brutally cold and windy. Ramon Martinez's groin exploded. I was right at the stage of no longer being embarrassed by my parents, so I was quite happy my dad brought a blanket into the stadium.

    But Hamilton is a stud and marmol is awful. So there baseline of fine aren't comparable, thus comparing them makes no sense.

    D: Because 2-3 months of good results outweigh 3 appearances. The "good" results were somewhat overrated, and no, they don't necessarily do so in this case. I know people love to spam "sample size," but there's also the matter of extremity. Extremely bad results are less likely to be sample-size flukes than ordinarily bad ones (and the same goes for good). Same argument as we had last year when Brett Jackson had a million Ks in 50 PAs or whatever. 13 batters faced: 2 BB 2 HBP 2 HR 2 K 5 BIP That's bad enough to be legitimately concerned over, sample size or no. Legitimately concerned, sure. Cut and run at first sign of difficulty, no. Velocity seems normal, location seems off, front office likely thinks he should get time to try to get control straightened out. First sign? You'd have a point if that wasn't an absurdly wrong notion.

    I saw he hit 94 on a flat pitch right down the middle that was smacked into left. Velocity isn't the issue with Marmol. He can't nibble. So it's either a ball or a very hittable pitch.

    Sounds like a bunch of double speak to me. He tries blaming "the process" but also admits he went along with the process.

    I would doubt that, because the implication is Jim Hendry did a god awful job when he had a chance to make them a powerhouse.

    This last sentence of this comment makes my hed hurd. So stop reading after the first sentence. Please explain why that trade would work out even if Haren were to never pitch a game for the Cubs. Love to hear it. Because Marmol also would not pitch a game for the Cubs.
