  1. Because the Cubs have a very bad record in the 3+ years they've owned the team.
  2. Is Sappelt a natural first baseman or catcher?
  3. I was going to make some fajitas tonight, and I think nachos would be a lovely addition. Thanks for the tip.
  4. Interesting write-up, good stuff. Also noticed you used the word we or we've a dozen times when writing up the Steelers draft info and zero with the Bears. Didn't realize you had crossed that far over to the dark side. That's not me. A friend of mine does the Steelers specific stuff. Ah, that would explain it. The "we" stuff does not read well, but is fairly typical for a Steelers fan.
  5. How pull heavy has he been?
  6. Actually it slowly got better under the Tribune ownership. The last decade of their tenure was probably the greatest era of the Cubs since WWI. It would have been awesome to have Theo as GM during the same era that Hendry was GM. Matching up an ownership that consistently provided management with the most resources in the division with a GM who could succeed when spending lots of money.
  7. I really liked Jose Hernandez, which probably says a lot more about those mid-90's Cubs teams than Jose's ability. He made himself a really nice lucrative career out of not being bad.
  8. Unless they trade down a lot then I really really hope not. This is not a good QB draft. Guys who should be 4th rounders are going to go in the first or second.
  9. Yeah, apparently Emery practiced but don't know if he's ready. And if you aren't going to start Hutton at home against Phoenix, you sure as hell aren't starting him at Vancouver. The boys might play better in front of a rookie now that they don't have any other reason to play hard. Regardless, I'm sure Q wants Crawford to play himself into or out of the starting job going into the playoffs. Will Crawford/Emery not split time in the playoffs? Only if the starter craps the bed.

  11. Oh well good to know, because that's important. A lot of people were preferring management to indiscriminately, irresponsibly throw money everywhere.
  12. All it takes is one of the top 5 or 6 to change what happens next, and the Jets/Tampa trade certainly throws a wrench. I would be shocked if we went through the first 12 with the same selections.
  13. Jimminy Christmas. Nobody thought Theo would do what Hendry did and what in the hell makes people think that is what Hendry would have done?
  14. Oh, okay. That's why I asked. I concur.
  15. Just to clarify, you are surprised some people wouldn't mind? Coaches aren't that important in my estimation. It's the players that win or lose in baseball. Unless you have a magic pitching coach who gets more out the arms than anybody else does, they are replaceable. I can't imagine them canning Sveum though, since they set him up with crap teams, you can't really justify expecting more. The problem is though if they just keep losing they may feel the need to make it look like they are trying eventually, which could force them to fire somebody. And if they do keep losing then Sveum himself may want out. The taint of managing 100 loss teams can take a long time to wash away. You'll probably have to latch on to a winning organization for several years to be considered a viable option again.
  16. Uhhhhh, you're right. it wasn't stacked. Still isn't.
  17. Is Brett Jackson hurt or on double secret probation? 2 days in a row of PH duty?
  18. The one he gets delivered to his doorstep every morning?
  19. alright, time for a refresh of round 1. I've got all sorts of picks to make
  20. WGN disappeared in NYC for a decade and came back a year or two.
  21. Zach Zaidman ‏@ZachZaidman 18m #Bears signed K Austin Signor to a three-year contract. http://www.linkedin.com/pub/austin-signor/41/8b9/1b3 Assume he's just a typical camp invite, but is it a little odd they gave him a 3 year contract?
  22. I don't want to know the reasons behind thinking they will go 9-6.
  23. They probably want to collect as many decent OFers as they can for if/when they trade Soriano and/or DeJesus. Seems like they already had enough. To me, this only makes sense if they're close to trading DeJesus. I'd be surprised if a team wanted to deal enough for DeJesus at the moment for the Cubs to want to deal him so soon.
