  1. Casserly and peoli did a mock together that was about as weird as I've seen. I think they had 11 offensive linemen taken in the top 12.
  2. It would be awful
  3. Te'o does not match emerys desire for dynamic athletes. I hope he's not the choice.
  4. My interpretation was that his inner hardass came out after being pumped up about a big hit.
  5. Huh? That's what he did. Pinch hitter, pinch runner, sac bunt, pinch hitter.
  6. That...does not make any sense. Sac bunting into a situation where you have Soriano up in need of contact doesn't make sense. The pitcher doesn't have to throw strikes and he'll swing. This teams already makes outs far too easily.
  7. half inning later and that's where we're at. I want to picture Pat on the phone with his boss or his agent complaining his partner stepping all over the set-up.
  8. What the hell? Pat was just talking to Moreland about how Samardzija threw several high pressure pitches last inning and right in the middle of what sounded like a question, Moreland says, "boy has it lightened up a bunch in here." Pat paused for a few counts, and to me sounded quite annoyed (for him) when answering the interrupted question with, "yes it has Keith."
  9. i was listening in Brazil
  10. staying injured saved him $1.5m this spring. It might be his last chance to ever make that much money.
  11. he's 21 Who is he? Soler turned 20 prior to his first spring training, when he went to extended spring training. He is now 21 and broke camp this season with a full season team. Appel is currently 21, but will be 22 soon after the draft and closer to 23 by the time xst would even be an issue.
  12. If you are upset with picks being spoiled for you then you have real issues.
  13. It wasn't meant to be a direct, one-to-one comparison. It's just that this front office seems to like to give new prospects a couple of extra weeks' indoctrination in The Cubs Way before letting them loose in the minors. Didn't Baez start there too, or am I imagining things? Maybe it's crazybuckets, though. It doesn't matter. The main point was that even if they are capable of pitching in the majors immediately in 2014, I doubt this front office is going to do that for a couple of reasons. You are comparing 22 year old college players with teenagers.
  14. Really? It seems to me like they start almost everyone there. High school or rehab guys, yes. Pierce Johnson is in Kane County. I was thinking more along the lines of Soler. Soler just turned 20 during his first spring training and hadn't played baseball in a very long time, plus he was from a completely different culture. Why in the hell would you compare Soler to Appel or Gray?
  15. You didn't know the outcome of the game so your first choice was to go find the game thread on here? That doesn't seem very smart.
  16. I thought he wasn't swinging at that much garbage. Although a lot of pre-swing noise can certainly affect your view of the strikezone. I'll fully cop to that being a "I KNOW WHAT I'M SEEING" judgement. Seems like he's been swinging and whiffing badly at pitches low and inside a lot more than he should be, but I could very easily be wrong. I'll cop to only vaguely remembering something written about his strike zone judgement a few days ago. He's gone 0-11 since with no walks and 5 K, so things can change.
  17. There's probably a difference between how you treat dead arm from a typical pitcher in a normal routine and how you deal with it for a pitcher coming off an elbow injury and then suffering a setback in his rehab.
  18. I thought he wasn't swinging at that much garbage. Although a lot of pre-swing noise can certainly affect your view of the strikezone.
  19. Wouldn't those token starts take place this summer? Prior didn't pitch for the Cubs after the draft. I don't recall the story around his negotiations, or why he didn't start at all that summer. But part of the excuse for starting him in the minors the year after the draft was that he never pitched as a pro.
