  1. His draft status was at least partially dependent on the guys running the Cubs at the time drafting him when they did, and they couldn't find a bat if it was being swung at their head. I always feel like people forget just how good Corey was in 2003/04. Yeah, you said that. I think most people forget because they don't pay attention to what happened a decade ago to guys who produced for such a short period of time. I think those of us who pay close attention to the Cubs and their prospects remember what he did. He showed some signs, but it was brief and he played for probably the absolutely wrong organization if he wanted to make a more substantial career out of what he did.

  3. Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that either. So basically our offense, on a whole, is incapable of finishing off an ab or doing anything with getting a good pitch to hit and doing something with it. 12th in NL OBP, 12th in BA, 8th in SLG 8th in SLG with the collection of talent we have doesn't seem all that bad and might be a result of that approach. Doesn't seem all that bad? It's below the mid-point of the league. It's certainly not a positive. I'm saying that given the roster it seems like it should be worse than around average. It was better than that earlier in the year. I'm not sure why you think it seems like it should be worse. They have some guys with SLG ability (some of whom happen to not be SLGing).
  4. Yeah, Pie's stats were never the problem. Still surprised he didn't turn out to be anything in the majors. Well, Pie had the same K rate as Baez in A+ but with significantly less power. His SLG was very triple dependent. As for Almora, he has a 220 point OPS advantage over Pie from when Felix was in the midwest league. Pie may have had a "better eye" but he wasn't doing much of anything down there. He was also in an organization that didn't give a damn about teaching/preaching patience and actually went out of its way to stress the opposite. That pretty much doomed him from making necessary strides in the majors.
  5. I agree that he would have been evaluated differently and that his development would have been handled differently.

  7. Arrest warrant for Hernandez, obstruction of justice, probably has to do with destroying all that evidence.
  8. They are ridiculously good at it. I never suggested it was luck or anything. It's practically their entire team identity. It worked to shut down Pittsburgh, but it hasn't exactly had the same effect on the Blackhawks. I'm not sure how you can describe the Blackhawks goals as flukish but not the Bruins.
  9. This is just ridiculous. Hawks have had a positive Corsi in every game this series, and only once by less than double digits (game 1: +51, game 2: +13, game 3: +7, game 4: +14). The Hawks have clearly been the better team in this series, both by eye test (games 1, 2 and 4 all looked like the Hawks carried more of the play) and even more by the numbers, and now they have home ice in a best of 3. The Bruins are the best team the Hawks have played so it looks more even, but the Hawks are still the better team. Very silly to read this given the facts completely contradict it. Maybe it's fan pessimism that makes people come to these wrong conclusions, but I don't really get it. I don't even understand what raw meant by that. If you thought the Blackhawks were the better team prior to last night, how did last night change your opinion that they are not the better team. I think they are clearly the more talented team out there, with Boston's advantage being completely dependent on the ridiculous shot blocking.
  10. that's bad? Well he falls down under no contact whatsoever so yes, that's bad. Did he get in trouble for it?
  11. Well he is a Red Wings fan, so that would be one strike against him. . I do remember him making a guest appearance in the booth during a regular season Hawks game a few years ago and Pat had Len do a few minutes of PBP...he was entertaining Oh, didn't know the Red Wings bit. I take it all back. He can be a bit irritating on twitter when Hawks/Wings are playing each other.
  12. And it features Dusty complaining about it (then mid article switches Bakers but keeps just writing Baker).
  13. Probably because it is full of holes. The only reason we know about it is they filed a civil suit, apparently. And that was thrown out a couple days later. The lawyer claims it was just because of paperwork issues. Has any of that ever stopped ESPN in the past of running with a story? But it probably didn't get out. The victim didn't name Hernandez as the shooter to police.

  15. Fine by me, .272/.335/.540 17BB/64K (22.8% of his PA)
  16. doesnt he have like 1 hit in his last 10 games or something? like sneaky said, it's 6 and a grand slam and a bunch of walks and not that many strikeouts, which is more important for him than how lucky he has been on balls in play i'm not bothering to verify this, as it's only 6 games anyway so who cares I don't think there's much point in clarifying that the homerun was a grand slam.
  17. that's bad?
  18. The idea that people try to put a numerical distinction on such a nebulous idea is mind boggling.
  19. When I was looking up Jeimer Candelario info I found a November 2011 story about Cubs top prospects that noted Brett Jackson has no below average tool, but his weakness was his swinging and missing. Isn't the "hit tool" the one that makes it so you don't strikeout a hell of a lot more than the average player? If you strikeout like that, isn't your hit tool below average?
  20. HE ALREADY MADE HIS PRO DEBUT AFTER HE SIGNED HIS PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT AND PLAYED PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL IN THE MINOR LEAGUES.
  21. I think it's funny that Crawford's glove side is apparently the biggest story coming out of this game. It's news that Crawford isn't impenetrable?
  22. Brett on BN stated that seemingly as fact, although I saw no source. http://www.bleachernation.com/2013/06/20/top-pitching-prospect-pierce-johnson-has-been-promoted-to-high-a-daytona/ That quote just says he'll take his spot on the roster, not necessarily the rotation. There's a secondary link in that post that talks about where he'll be used in KC.
  23. Seems to me that Candelario is less likely to play 3B in the majors because he is not likely to play in the majors, no?
  24. Welcome to game 1
