  1. Yes, I was asking if you were talking about Merrill Hoge.
  2. Ugghh, little pat on the head and words of encouragement from condescending Cardinals fan would not be helpful to me.
  3. Oh my god I actually saw that and all I could think was, what the what?
  4. Oh god I don't know. To me he never seemed to be a "former NFL meatball" like so many others. Maybe he was. I probably never payed that close of attention. He just never rubbed me the wrong way from what I can recall. I have had a lot of life issues over the past few years that have kept me relatively sidelined when it comes to some things. In retrospect, I guess I probably shouldn't have vouched for him since I don't have much to draw from. Merrill Hoge? Not a former NFL meatball? The factorback guy?
  5. well that's interesting.
  6. They could probably get it on an installment plan.
  7. Again, what they are paid does not matter. They got what they got because of the strength of each party's negotiating stance. As the Cubs are constructed, and with what is available to improve from outside, they need Castro and Rizzo to be good in order for the team to be good anytime soon. Their prospects are too far away, and far too unknown, from providing that production. And there's not much out there on the market to make a difference.
  8. With what they are paying Castro and Rizzo, they aren't expecting them to be the best players on the team. I still expect at least 1 mega free agent deal sometime in the next 2 offseasons. Who that will be is a mystery as there aren't likely too many big stars coming to free agency, especially hitters. What they are paying them has nothing to do with anything. Their salaries are based strictly on what each party's negotiating position was at the time of the deal.
  9. So much for Samardzija. This begins the death spiral for him. I could have sworn Samardzija was having a disappointing season before looking at his stats. Whut. I mean like, in my head when I saw he gave up a bunch early I was like, "here we go again." I felt like this has happened all too frequently and he was having a bad year. Then I looked at it and saw he was on pace for the same numbers as last year.
  10. That's not true at all. He should consider himself lucky then that he got $100k before blowing out his arm. He hasn't lost anything he never had in the first place.

  12. Oh man. DO NOT LOOK AT THE PICTURE GALLERY, JESUS CHRIST too late
  13. This tired nonsense about how good they would be with a better bullpen is pointless. Bullpen arms come and go. Even if this group was better the team wouldn't be all that special. The hope is that they will one day be an actual good team, like one that wins divisions and isn't just settling for being in contention for the second wild card spot. They need Castro and Rizzo to both be good, and especially not suck, in order to get there anytime soon. A bullpen isn't going to be the difference.
  14. It's early and a lot of things can happen but they're likely going to save their money for Toews, Kane and Saad. The Bowman strategy has always been not to pay goalies. The Hawks are now a place where vets will take less money on a short contract to get a ring. To anyone wondering why Raanta isn't the back up, it's simple: he's never really played on the smaller rinks of the NHL. it's an adjustment that would be better made in the AHL for at least a half season. Is there any time on the roster consideration for becoming an unrestricted free agent? I don't even know how they account for these guys that sign from abroad.
  15. I don't see how it's great news. It's bad news, if true, because I expect him to sign and to sign for less than that. Lower is better in practical terms, I can't deny that. But I like the fact that we gave out the biggest bonus under the new system. Thumb in the eye of the underslot theorists. Not sure how effective that thumb is going to be.
  16. Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 4m #cubs close to record deal with No. 2 overall pick Kris Bryant, 3B from U of San Diego. http://cbsprt.co/12iaN7v
  17. But they are allowed to then sign him without losing the pick themselves, right?
  18. this isn't the nba, 150 points of OPS from anthony rizzo isn't going to determine whether the team is good or not. A .750 OPS Anthony Rizzo vs. a .900 OPS Anthony Rizzo would have a pretty significant effect on the team. Especially when couple with a not horrible Starlin Castro versus a horrible Starlin Castro. The Cubs may not be all that great even if those guys get really good, but they will definitely not be good if those guys aren't good.
  19. I have two family members that have had Brewer season tickets for as long as I can remember and didn't renew last year when this all started pretty much because of Braun. They all hate him for this. That's ridiculous.
  20. Oscar Acosta knew he was never 16.
