  1. "That's a great shot, (fword)"
  2. with lots of swear words.
  3. FWIW, a nightmare owner to me would've been someone who, in the case of this franchise, would have left it on autopilot, not addressed any of the rest of the organization and just kept the team interesting enough to print money while not really having a long term vision of any sort. His first two years were nightmarish since he did keep Hendry far longer than necessary.
  4. Somebody needs to zoom in on Crane and Ricketts, who look extremely similar there. Are they one and the same? Did Crane just invent this Ricketts persona in order to buyout the Cubs from the Tribune?
  5. I thought the story was the trouble maker guy was an out of town based newer owner.
  6. So their construction plans involved telling the contractor to go to another stadium and copy their scoreboard and then just going away until he was done. No photo comparisons involved? No confirmation about the plans?
  7. wait, what? Who left the 40 man today? Raley and Marshall were both claimed on waivers. Wasn't Marshall removed a while ago?
  8. Like a payroll cut in half? They've chosen to wait it out just like they chose the easy way out by tanking to stockpile picks. They obviously have the money but not the willingness to spend it. The funds have not been made available.
  9. My argument is that city hall has been supportive of the Cubs the whole time and it hasn't done a damn thing to get the project started.
  10. Not sure if srs but the whole "they don't have the money to start construction right now" angle is hilarious. In what way is it hilarious? The most logical conclusion about the delay is the Cubs have made a decision to stall.
  11. Or it's "Rahm is sick of waiting and is putting his foot down with the rooftops" which is more how I read it Rahm's been putting his foot down for a couple years already. This is something Ricketts has to get done, not the mayor's office. That's sure not what the reports are saying. Reports? Dan Bernstein is just retelling a slightly different version of a story we've heard a million times. And since when do these "reports" mean anything?

  13. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-chicago-cubs-tom-rickets-rooftop-20140212,0,7544517.story Article kind of sounds like a "We might as well just talk positively about Wrigley since we are here opening the new stadium and it is supposed to be a festive environment."
  14. And they're more confident now based on what? Tickets go on sale soon and confidence about taking a harder stand is the best thing they could come up with to drive excitement.
  15. Great another [expletive] season of nobody shutting the [expletive] up about a Yankees retirement. I'll be skipping the all star game this season This one will be worse.
  16. http://deadspin.com/if-the-winter-olympics-were-held-during-the-battle-of-h-1521392250 Russian imperialist forces are brutal.
  17. What's that positive press worth? How much have ayanbendejo and kluwe made off their support? I could see an agent reminding his guy to not say anything dumb, but simply being the guy who vocally supported the gay player probably is not actually worth much (from a non human decency standpoint) unless he plans to run for office as a democrat.
  18. The date is meaningless when you reset your organization.
  19. It's probably not the fans of his team that we have to be concerned about. (although baseball's best fans will have a lot to say if the Rams take him). The fans of the opponents are going to be harsh.
  20. To play devil's advocate, he only came out of the closet to his team. It was not the same as him being out to the world, and the media attention that will draw to his NFL team.
  21. That type of cost certainty isn't all that valuable.
  22. I don't see why. It's not an unreasonable policy, but it's certainly not the only way to do things. What would be the point of signing a pre-FA player to a multi-year contract that doesn't give the team some benefit on the back end? The only way around that would be one that significantly underpays the player, which I would guess they would allow to circumvent the policy.
