  1. Mad Dog pissed off Mike Francesa a lot so he's good in my book. Although Jimmy Pardo does a great Mad Dog on his podcast.
  2. He changed his normal one to JimBowdiv or something, is he doing what I think he is and going to try and pawn this off as being hacked? And now the JimBowdiv is gone. Is it that hard to say "I got duped, sorry"? Well what he actually did was worse than being duped. He tried to take someone else's report and report it as his own without giving any credit. http://deadspin.com/jim-bowden-caught-stealing-from-fake-twitter-account-d-1614081824 deadspin's account
  3. I don't think it's a matter of his time being worth more to him. The fact is your "solution" is a risky bet he should not bother making on himself. Even if he does make it through his age 36 season relatively unscathed, what team is going to bet big on him to do it again at age 37-39? He's much better off pressuring a team to offer him a mid-tier contract for 36/37, or at least threaten a holdout for at least a bump in his age 36 season. Refusing to pitch for $500k at age 36 is perfectly rational.
  4. Something that I heard today was that Lackey wouldn't play under the $500k option. He'd retire/sit out, rather than play. Seems like a good decision for a 36 year old if he wants to make any money after next year. This seems sarcastic but is in fact a realistic rationalization. There is very little incentive for him to go out and pitch for $500k next year.
  5. A state of perpetual rebuilding. I think at the bare minimum you have to start 2015 with Castro in the lineup to maximize your chances to be good in 2015 while your prospects are still in Iowa. (with the obvious caveat that any blowaway offer would have to be entertained at any point) I wouldn't disagree with this. But you also need to discretely find out what you can get. I really don't think so. I think a "discreet" attempt to gauge the market on Castro will quickly be interpreted by the market as the Cubs trying to sell high after a bounce back year they do not think is sustainable. Let the market come to you on Castro until somebody internally pushes him off his value positions.
  6. They got a solid starting caliber player for next year for 2 months of Lester on a last place team and a jonny gomes that has been awful. Why is it amazingly terrible? Because I think Lester is worth more than 1.2 years of a marginally above average OF? You don't seem to be taking into account that Lester is a free agent who will be leaving this year while Cespedes could easily be more productive out of Oakland and kept by the Red Sox longterm. They didn't just trade for 1.2 years of him, they get 1.2 years and first dibs.
  7. i beg to differ but i'm not gonna come in here and [expletive] all over the guy's day of fun. i'm sure he'll have a good time. Well, for people who can appreciate fun at least.
  8. go back in time and sign Cespedes then return to present and have both.
  9. This hurts the Cubs' chances of signing him (because of the draft pick compensation issue) more than it helps it imo I think draft pick compensation has been pretty much a non-starter for an FA with this FO, even moreso for a post-30 guy like Lester. Removing the QO probably ups his price, but the Cubs are more likely to pay X + that price increase than X + a pick and pool money. This was my thought. Money is what the Cubs want to play with and I suspect player acquisition that purely costs money and not talent in any form is the first choice. I don't expect 2014/2015 off-season to be the ramp up, but I still hold out some hope the FO wants to start the Bryant/Baez/Soler years with a better MLB roster and a splash so that the pressure isn't all on those guys and Rizzo/Castro. Lester is going to get too many years but is still top of my list. I've operated under the assumption that this is how they should behave, but so far they haven't taken advantage much of the money and nothing else opportunities.
  10. A state of perpetual rebuilding. I think at the bare minimum you have to start 2015 with Castro in the lineup to maximize your chances to be good in 2015 while your prospects are still in Iowa. (with the obvious caveat that any blowaway offer would have to be entertained at any point)
  11. It would make more sense if this was more about a fear that Castro is going to regress again rather than clearing the way for Russell.
  12. You think his wife allowed his poor ass to have sex with her within the past couple years? I doubt it.
  13. I think it would be insane. There were people who thought he would start this year in MLB. It's not THAT crazy to get him to AAA. I don't think it will happen, though. Seriously? He turned 20 in January. It's hardly unheard of or close to insane.
  14. One of the big reasons he got traded is that he complained that he wasn't getting the chance to start. I saw an unsubstantiated mention that he might've tanked some out of the bullpen in protest. Don't know any other details around that whole situation, but that's the situation being referenced in all likelihood. What are his feelings on chicken and beer.
  15. Oh yeah Fwiw, I could see a trade working here, precisely because Castro is really valuable and teams know it.
  16. Gonzales was quick to retweet the ejection, but with no context.
  17. some tom waddle/craig kilbourn-esque looking dude making a funny face It's Craig James http://i.imgur.com/oQtJ20as.jpg The hooker killer?

  19. It could happen...if the defense improves enough. Well first, he'd have to be healthy all season. But also, the media doesn't like him. The only way they'd vote for him is if they had little choice. I'd think he'd have to make the Super Bowl at a minimum...if not win it. isn't voting done prior to the playoffs?
  20. It could happen...if the defense improves enough. If the Bears win a lot this year it will probably involve a crap ton of fancy passing stats by Cutler, which will automatically make him a candidate.
  21. TV market would be Chicagoland area, just like the Jets/Giants tv market is the NY metropolitan area. From a which state do these teams play in standpoint, it would be Indiana just like the Jets/Giants play in New Jersey. As a point of argument, please give the full names of the teams you are referencing. As I said, a Chicago Bears team playing in the state of Indiana could still be called the Chicago Bears, but would not be referred to as an Illinois based team. Likewise, the New York Giants and New York Jets are not New York State teams.
