who do they "need" to get starts that is not getting them? Doubront, Strailey and Turner. 2 of them are getting starts in the minors. Turner is 23 and has plenty of time to get starts. I think the point is that it's more useful to get a look at these guys in the majors than it is to keep trotting Ed Jxn out there. I thought the point was they hoped to turn some of these guys around after giving the Cubs pitching experts time to work with them. I do not see how it is vital to get them in the major league rotation today.

I think he's done, but unlike those two he is actually raking in AAA and does hold some defensive value. The other two are more done.

I feel like the biggest reason he was signed was to eat innings during this interim period when they new they were going to be hard up for pitchers. Until he is actually pushed out by better guys who can be counted on to eat as many innings they might as well just let him keep going out there. Just not every other day.

The funny thing is that the playoff spot and a 4-year reign in the central would be based on the rotation if you're looking at a track record of ML success rather than potential. YES THAT IS THE FUNNY THING amitheonlyonewhodoesntseethefunnything? Okay, maybe I should have used the word "interesting" rather than "funny" since most of you have espoused the philosophy of monster offense and "meh pitching". Meh pitching

And you are also assuming that there will be no money involve in a Hamels deals. So you're cutting into the market even further by upping the prospect haul? I don't know what that means.

What does running it by the Cubs have to do with it? If you are advocating for waiting until all free agents are taken then it doesn't matter if a trade gets "run by" the Cubs before going down.

You named one team. And that team has already tried trading for him, decided against it, and has plenty of financial resources. You really think they'd go against what they've already done just to get a guy early? It's not about getting a guy early. It's about getting a guy.
