Yep, as long as the offense was good you could ignore his other faults. But when his area of expertise is what's leading to the losses, it is a problem.

I am not sure what else you'd need to read about last year's defense to see that he lost them. Briggs was outspoken. They all hated Lovie being booted and scoffed at Trestman's style, and the result was a decent defense becoming horrible in a heartbeat. Briggs is basically just cashing checks at this point. Tillman is a pro and possibly the only vet that didn't go through the motions.

I don't know what you mean but overrated, maybe that it's not really a concern? But I think it is real in this league and I think the Trestman already lost the defensive side of that room last year, when everything fell apart post-Lovie. He maintained credibility while his offense was improving, and doing things no Bears offense had done in years, if ever. Now that the offense has stalled, and fingers are being pointed by and toward half the team, this is a problem again. Trestman has his work cut out for him this week, getting the teams' collective head on straight and figuring out how to make this offense not suck. This team is a bummer.

Saw this one today. According to Gil Brandt. Pickable passes (ball thrown that should have been INT): Best: Cam Newton (0 in 179 att), Matt Ryan (1-234). Worst: Jay Cutler (9-229) #footballstats I find it strange that some people on here are pretending that the guy isnt the QB that tends to throw a back breaking INT in the worst situations. Statistically an average to above average QB, okay. But he's been an INT prone in bad situations over the last 9 years. To think it's a matter of 'cleaning it up' and that he's going to suddenly 'clean it up' is laughable and mind-numbingly stupid. Dan Bernstein had it right when seriously doubting that he'll ever be able to put together a win streak long enough to take a team to the Superbowl. McNabb is incorrect about comparing Cutler to Romo due to the fact that Romo has better career numbers then Jay. This bad situations talk is just dumb. Sure it's nothing that you can quantify with a stat, but it's definitely the majority opinion about him that isn't necessarily untrue. Kyle is right and maybe my wording of it is off but Cutler throws INTs with the best of them for whatever reason. I too believe he'll never be able to put together a sustained level of play good enough to take a team to the Superbowl. I hope I'm wrong. A star "talent" branching out on his own with the risk of less income over the near-term, but for greater opportunity in the long-term (financial and freedom from the bosses above) is a pretty common occurrence. Not sure what would be crazy about it. Grantland was supposed to be his "branching out." They basically said "Hey Bill, Page 2's traffic is literally all being driven in by you how about we fund and let you run an entire site based on the premise." He seems to have been given quite a bit of freedom on Grantland, whether he will admit it or not. He's not getting into a situation where he's making more money by leaving ESPN/Grantland when his contract is up, the only thing he will get is a little more freedom. Which I understand valuing that but he seems to have plenty other than being able to swear on his podcasts and threaten ESPN. It was a theoretical branching out that is really just him running a small department under the ESPN/Disney umbrella. Which he's getting paid more to do than he would be making if he started his own site without ESPN/Disney's funding and ability to drive in traffic. That's my point, he's not going to be able to make as much money by starting billsimmons.com. And again, that ignores the point that pretty much every "star" that left one big corporation to start their own business goes through that same exact issue. In the short-term they take a hit, but it helps that they have already earned a lot of money and presumably have a sweet nest egg and very little nut. And in the end they leave for freedom from their corporate overlords and the opportunity to potentially become overlords themselves.

Yeah, it may be perspective but it seems to me almost anybody can come over from Cuba and get a ton of money since they are the only unregulated group. What do you mean unregulated? They still have to fit the cutoffs to be exempt from the IFA rules. Players from Cuba are essentially the only players that do fit those cutoffs. You aren't getting 26 year old Dominicans randomly popping up on the multi million dollar radar.
