  1. It's a stretch to call him a star. And he was the only guy to trade and potentially get back a haul. Not a star? that's ludicrous. But is he elite?

  3. you asked a rastafarian to stop blowing pot smoke in his own grandson's mouth?
  4. criticizing his appearance is a very snobby cardinals fans thing to do and worthy of mocking. this is true
  5. not to be all umfan, but hate/misery porn can be fun. we haven't really had this since 2008, aside from a few weeks of 2011 theo hype. "This"? What is this that we have to hold over everybody? They hired a manager and resigned Wada. insert Mr. Wolf quote here I understand enjoying the grief after the Cubs sweep some opponent, or, you know, if they actually accomplish something. But misery porn after signing a manager? That's not the misery I am interested in.
  6. please stop caring about those things
  7. Mark Gonzales ‏@MDGonzales · 43s43 seconds ago  Chicago, IL Cubs reinstate outfielders Justin Ruggiano and Ryan Sweeney from the 60-day DL. 40-man roster at 37. Not really a transaction, but it's a thing that happened with the Cubs roster.
  8. What about jaxon? Or the contracts of the managers they fired? If anything it just reminds one how long ago this team was any good.
  9. Have there been any reports or rumors to this? Rumor is no Tampa coaches will be allowed to leave with Maddon, with the possible exception of Martinez interviewing for but not getting the manager's gig and thus allowed to pursue other interests. I understand they're bitter but how does forcing guys to stay in a situation they don't want going to help the franchise going forward? This stuff never makes sense to me. The GM left, the head coach left, and the hitting/pitching/bullpen coaches are going to be forced to stay in a situation that's vastly different than what they signed up for? It happens. Generally speaking they will compensate those guys with an extra year on their deal or a boost in the following season. They would probably evaluate on case by case and allow guys to leave for a gig that isn't following Maddon to the Cubs.

  12. Cuz the guy that made it got confused and thought one was Alcantara. with no Russell?
  13. That is incredible. I find it..., confusing. Pff, Maddon is Zordon, obviously. Read a book. It's not the reference, it's the "roster".

  15. Unless there are deferred payments, they should be done. 8 year contract ended with the final out of the 2014 season. I'm a little surprised that wasn't more celebrated. The excitement around the Maddon signing is palpable. While there no real connection between these two things, it really feels like the beginning of something new. The final check to Soriano didn't have anything to do with anything, so what would there be to celebrate?
  16. so he's a plagiarist?

  19. I hate to contribute to that show's ratings but.... I'm sure the drinks will be flowing at the Cubby Bear 3 hours from now until they're on...This should be real entertaining. I bet Kap is an angry drunk. I'd take the other end of that bet.
  20. That seems to be the case for all #1 sports journalists in every city. Not a lot of calm cool and collected filling those roles.

  23. Steve Berthiaume ‏@BertDbacks · 14m14 minutes ago #Tigers have hired Alan Trammell as special assistant to Tigers President, CEO & GM David Dombrowski. Congrats Tram, a HOF person! 11 years after that ugly 2003 season and Trammell still hasn't been back in the (non-interim) manager's chair. Wonder if Dale Sveum will wait as long.
  24. that's a different topic The...[expletive]? I have too much of a headache to go down the gooney wormhole today. the point was that an established quality hitter was going to be hard to replace when there was nobody in the system that could competently handle the position. It's not really 20/20 to point out they weren't able to fill that hole. I agree that plenty of people on here were more than happy to bid him adieu and let the wonder boys work their magic. But in retrospect that decision was probably the first real clue how deep of a dive they were going to take.
