    But MLB doesn't have a salary cap and you can't keep productive players on your NHL roster for 6 years before they start making the big bucks. Paying a guy what they get (more than most of them get actually) just because some other teams do it is not a smart way to work around cap issues. Call me crazy but the Jimmy Howard comparisons from earlier isn't encouraging. Detroit did a great job for a while but I'm not exactly hopeful that the Blackhawks will follow their lead going forward.

    So you really dislike Crawford's contract? I do. For two reasons. 1) I hate being tied to goaltenders for multiple years. These guys tend to ebb and flow, and outside the truly elite (are there any right now), they are replaceable. 2) I don't like the idea of paying that much to guys that aren't difference makers. The Blackhawks entire system is set-up so that overwhelming talent dominates the puck and they tend to only struggle when a goalie has an amazing game against them. I thought they did a real smart job of shifting from Niemi to Crawford and then should have continued shifting to new goalies while keeping the rest of the roster elite. They are dealing with cap issues and it does not help that a guy like Crawford is taking up $6m every year until 2020.

The Levine article did not have the 4th team at the time. Maybe it's been updated since, but I didn't look at it. I was posting it because it named the Blue Jays. it named the blue jays the first time.

    The Toews and Kane contracts feel like bargains toward the end because they were superstars when they got their first deals and have only gotten better. That is a terrible comparison.

    It'd be a more believable hypothesis had the Royals' baserunning actually provided more value than other teams, but they were actually in the middle of the pack. It's akin to attributing the 2005 White Sox success to grinder ball even though they led the AL in homers. was it 05 or 06 that we got pierre? after 05, right? It was after 05, but specifically because of 03.

    Right, but its also lazy to see why the Hawks lost that series. Its much more than just blaming it on an unlucky bounce(to me that is a real meatball stance) Meatball would be something like, "they didn't want it enough."

    I do not want to have another season where the Cardinals are the consensus best team in baseball. Yeah, I'd prefer 2004 happen to them, of anything. I'd like to see 2010-2014 happen to them. STL hasn't had 5 consecutive losing seasons since 1906-1910

    I do not want to have another season where the Cardinals are the consensus best team in baseball. seriously though. that sort of thing happens all the time. It's not going to be devastating to most fan bases to have a great season then lose in the first round to a lesser team.
