  1. Chris Kuc ‏@ChrisKuc 4m4 minutes ago #Blackhawks recall forward Teuvo Teravainen from Rockford.
  2. Jason La CanforaVerified account ‏@JasonLaCanfora Back at Oregon people have heard how upset Chip Kelly is and how he wants out of Philly w/3yrs left on his deal, can he rattle enuff chains?
  3. What was he before? He went from Director of Pro Personnel to Director of Player Personnel and I assume the difference involves the level of involvement/responsibility with the college scouting/draft portion of the job.
  4. Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter 39s39 seconds ago Packers have promoted Eliot Wolf to director of player personnel.
  5. No thanks. But I wonder if Gamble would extend that Kelly relationship to the current Oregon coach.
  6. Derwood knows all about supporting hated schools, just not hated schools with good football teams.
  7. Advanced metrics are fine. But that's not how the teams are picked. The way the teams are currently picked for the playoffs, FSU was clearly one of the 4 teams that deserved to be in. I don't have a problem with FSU being in the playoff, I'm just answering your question. By virtue of a pretty crazy series of close wins against a middling schedule they were an undefeated power conference champion. They should have been one of the 4 teams even if on paper they're closer to 10 than 4. And their indignant fans really made a show of ignoring any evidence that they were not good and are hateable. #FSUtwitter
  8. At this point I am really confused what it is you think is being argued. FSU was almost unquestionably not a top 4 team this year. They made the most headlines in the most egregious manner this year from a scummy factor.
  9. Agreed. Still doesn't explain hating them more than Ohio St (coached by Urban Meyer mind you) or any Nick Saban coached team. I think an FSU/Bama matchup would have changed the hate meter significantly. But you've answered your own question already with the Winston raped a girl and got away with it story. He's the face of the team and raped a girl but got away with a little help from friends of the program.
  10. I don't see how you can say they "clearly deserved" to be one. But I think everybody hates them because they have so many run-ins with the law and are the quintessential small town cops protect the football team organization. They are in Florida, which is another strike. And they kind of lucked their way into an undefeated season which forced people into begrudgingly allowing them to participate in the tourny. Lucked into? How so? I think it has been pointed out on this site the multiple instances where they pulled off last minute/weak wins this year and that all evidence pointing toward them being worse than their record would indicate. Although I don't pay close attention to college football and may have the details wrong.
  11. I sold you on Kubiak. uhhhhhhhhhhhh
  12. The fact that bama and FSU made OSU and Oregon into sympathetic figures in comparison speaks volumes about the joy of a good hate.

  14. I thought he said he was not interested in a HC position. Kubiak may have no interest in Cutler, he left Denver before they selected Jay. Could be wrong but I thought it was just a report that he didn't want to give it any consideration while the Ravens were still in the playoffs. Yea it was a little unclear overall, but you have to imagine with the right compensation he'd make the jump. He may not have a direct Jay connection but he turned around Flacco a ton this year. Hard to imagine he would think he can't replicate that success with Jay. Wasn't Flacco already elite?

Could be wrong but I thought it was just a report that he didn't want to give it any consideration while the Ravens were still in the playoffs. Good, because he's still my preference. But I really don't know and can't predict how the GM thing will affect the coaching hire.

  17. My point is there are no celebrity GM types. I think they want a GM who hires his coach, but I also don't think there is a single candidate being talked about who has the resume to demand autonomy over all from the outset and they made very clear that they were willing to hire the coach first, given the situation. As they go through this uninspiring list of GMs, their preferences may change. The fact is that if a coach wins, he takes more and more control over roster decisions. Football GMs are not baseball GMs (with very few exceptions). Coaching matters in the NFL and the power resides in the successful coach. No GM will remain boss over the coach if that coach wins. Eventually, that coach will win the power struggle or leave. No GM can expect to hire a coach, win and maintain control over that coach. With that knowledge, I think a GM candidate can be persuaded to take that job, essentially work for a Mike Shanahan for 2-3 years and then if they win, enjoy the success while Shanahan eventually fades off into the sunset, or if they lose, get a chance to hire the next guy after multiple years of experience in the job.
  18. If not for that stupid OPI at the end of the ND game, we would have gotten Bama vs. Baylor and Oregon vs. Ohio State (the latter of which we will get anyway, I suppose). Yesterday was awesome, but without FSU it could've been even better. I think the best part of yesterday was seeing FSU get humiliated. If they weren't there, that never happens, and that would be a shame.
  19. George and Ted went out of their way to say that the Cutler situation would not dictate the next hire and the next guys will make decisions regarding the roster. The Bears went out and expressed interest in a bunch of typical and predictable names, and aside from the one guy who has turned everybody down, none of them are the sorts that can set their own market and make huge demands for power. Right now there are no celebrity type names attached to either job, with the usual suspects Cowher and Gruden out of the conversation and basically no similar GM type to consider. There are no obvious "move on from Cutler" candidates at the moment. Is the stage set for them to go through this process only to wind up with Shanahan as the guy to take one last stab at winning with Cutler and then hire some up-and-coming GM candidate to work with Mike with promises that if it does not work out with Shanahan/Cutler, they will have a chance to start it all over again?
  20. My thoughts also. He didn't spend 25 years as a college strength and conditioning coach, so it's not a replica.

  22. Mark Sheldon ‏@m_sheldon 10m10 minutes ago Just talked to Jocketty. Said the $ coming over with Byrd only covers this year's salary, not the option year if it vests. #reds
  23. Brad Biggs ‏@BradBiggs 30m30 minutes ago According to league source, #Bears interview with #Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase will take place Saturday in Denver.
