  1. I completely buy that people did not want to be involved in situations where you had to keep the head coach, or you had to use certain assistants. I do not buy that quality people are choosing to stay away from the Bears because of the presence of Ted Phillips. There has been no indication whatsoever that he is a meddler, that he has input on draft day or tries to go around people's backs. You read about that kind of nonsense with many teams out there, including Oakland, SF and to a lesser extent the Jets.
  2. Sure, I just think the talk from some about how he needs to go as part of cleaning house is often an overreaction; if the guy is good with the "business" side of thing and the McCaskeys are comfortable with him in that role then shifting him to that isn't a problem. It's not like a coach or management figure who can't (or, lets be realistic, almost always wouldn't) be shifted like that. Yea, and it's not even a question of him meddling in the personnel decisions, but him being ultimately responsible for targeting the man who is. If this next hire fails again, is Phillips sharing the blame or is is Accorsis fault? He'll have had three hires using three different techniques. At a certain point you have to recognize even non-traditionally sports businessmen can do a better job picking the sports guys. I'd argue they did a fine job with the hire prior to Emery. Angelo and Lovie together built a very good football team. Lovie failed to fix the offense but that was hardly the fault of Ted. If Ted is gone, does anybody think they will suddenly start making more informed football decisions at the Board level?
  3. I still have no idea what Hub could be talking about other than the same "does he have naked photos of Dusty" stuff we all joked about with (insert worthless player here). Unless Ted Phillips literally knows where bodies lie and is blackmailing the family, there is no reason why he cannot be removed. The fact is the family does not want him removed. They want him as their buffer between the board of directors and the actual company that is the Chicago Bears. I can't believe any football man would want to be in that position and any man who has served in that role probably regrets getting involved in the non-football side of the business.
  4. Part of DeCostas tie to Balt is also due to his wife's family I believe. NY/NJ also works in that favor over Chicago. On the other hand, the Jets ownership is as odd ducky and untrusted as the Bears, and the Jets have an even more wackadoodle "aura" about them than the Bears have.
  5. Yeah, I do not think it is at all. They said they hadn't even discussed with him the specific work Accorsi was going to do for them as of the press conference. I would imagine Accorsi has a list of his own and will talk to some other people to get a few more names before presenting them to George and Ted.
  6. what did Phillips do on draft day? Not Phillips, just the Bears... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/07/19/john-harbaugh-says-the-bears-werent-ethical-on-draft-day/ I can't imagine a guy would refuse to go to the Bears because Jerry Angelo was a boob.
  7. what did Phillips do on draft day?
  8. I doubt they had a specific name in mind. I think they were thinking generally in terms of the types of guys that would require/be worth a change in structure, both coaches and GMs. And they were probably told by Accorsi that they should say something like that.
  9. Is this some hurt feeling [expletive] because he turned us down last time? Dumb. Phillips can't trust an Italian ever since the Angelo era. or, more likely what soul said
  10. Rich Campbell ‏@Rich_Campbell 49s49 seconds ago Marc Ross. #Bears MT @RVacchianoNYDN: Giants GM Jerry Reese said no teams have called requesting interviews for anybody on his staff yet.
  11. He's been the draft guy and my understanding is the Giants draft sucked for a few years.
  12. This is my thought. The Giants are really a mess.
  13. Relying on that D to win games would suck. Yes. Buying into the whole defense and running game and bring back Kyle Orton for game manager frightens me because the meatballs dont know what that means. I think we have enough young talent on O to not worry about that The mid-2000s Bears had a heck of a lot of talent on offense.
  14. Relying on that D to win games would suck. I don't think you have to do that. In Cutler, Jeffery, Forte, Bennett you have a 1-4 talent punch that should have an offense in the top third. And yes, I think we trade Marshall for picks. I'd even be open to trading Cutler for a 3rd and Mettenberger given the impetus for rebuilding. Then, you draft Fortes replacement, Oline, and a slew of D studs Or, is there a market for Forte? I'd look to trade Forte but no idea if there is a market. Also, by the time you build up an elite defense that offensive core is done and/or gone.
  15. Streaming is great if you're ok watching it on your own. If I wanna watch it in the living room with my wife, it's more challenging. My DVR failed to record the penultimate episode of Fargo so we ended up watching that one on the computer and I fail to see how it would be difficult to watch something like that together unless you are afraid of being near your wife.
  16. His first stint was a "PR training camp intern". Accorsi was asst GM at the time so the odds are they met, but it's questionable how much of a working relationship they have.
  17. Thank God. No one gets [expletive] Epix, now I can DVR it Not really sure why the NHL thought it was a good idea to put that show on a station that nobody gets. I'm in the same boat -- DVR'ing that whole block. Because HBO gave it up and nobody else was interested and you can still easily get it online (coming from a non-streaming person).
  18. Relying on that D to win games would suck.
  19. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/chi-bears-gm-candidates-20141230-story.html Possibly of note, those three guys were the three names recommended to Accorsi by John Wooton, the chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance - which promotes racial diversity in front offices. Wooten told the Tribune those were the names he recommended, so, it is not clear how high they are on Accorsi's list, and it is entirely possible Accorsi has a significantly different list. Not sure how much this has been discussed before but Marc Ross came to the Giants after Accorsi left.
  20. According to the internet Newsome was born in bloody England, which is even further away from the NFL than Canada. Screw that. I get that this is a joke, but you do know he played 10 years in the NFL, right? I am aware
  21. Haha...listening to the Denver guy on The Score? yes heard it all yesterday and I've heard it from multiple people outside the media as well its freaking everywhere I was at the Devils game last night and overheard random dudes talking about it and they weren't even bears fans
  22. god I am going to get sick hearing about how much the Bears need to get back to Bears football and run the ball while relying on defense to win games.
  23. Yea I noticed that too. Regarding his credentials as a GM... His executive rolls for the past 7 years are equal or surpass what Ballard has had for the past 2-3, so he's at least above him in regards to experience. Another interesting note about Newsome is that he was a part of the HC search committee for Harbaugh. MMmmmmmmm, executive rolls. http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=101426&d=1367247122
