I didn't see THE SLIDE live but I did see it in replay and am absolutely amazed by how big of a deal people made about a guy sliding to the left side of the bag to avoid the tag from a terrible throw that was way off target. That's like baserunning 102 (not quite, make sure you go counter clockwise around the bases, you can run through 1st and home but not 2nd and 3rd, and tagging up, but nothing to go crazy about). What I do not like seeing are all these head first slides from a guy who is going to go a long way toward determining the future of this team with his bat. Go ahead and respect 90 all you want but you better protect your thumbs and wrists.
