    History tells us that demand does not truly reach high levels until after the team has returned to playoff caliber. You could get tickets very easily in 1998, 2003 and 2008. It was the following years where costs soared. 5 straight years of complete ineptitude erased the demand and that wasn't going to return this year unless they went on an epic run and looked to be division contenders. As it is now, they are on the cusp of the second wild card. And they can't score any runs. That is not going to put butts in seats.

    when this team relied on its dominant defense to win games it probably made some sense to worry about backup QB. But the way this team is constructed, backup QB does not matter. If Cutler isn't starting, they aren't doing anything. And that isn't to ignore the possibility they do nothing even with Cutler starting.

    If multiple guys are leaving, then this is probably the best bet. But among all options then "keeping them all" is probably the most likely scenario.

    That's ridiculous. No one would be upset if the Cubs started spending money, I think a lot of people would be upset. It depends on what they spend it on. if they spend it on David Price, I would not be upset. If they spend it on Jonny Gomes, I would be upset. There were people who did not want the Cubs to spend what they spent on Lester, and have been bitching about Lester not living up to the contract all season. People are dumb, they will be upset if the Cubs "act like Hendry and spend like mad" (ie. sign anybody good)
