  1. We will shift from saying he sucks to saying the guy who replaces him sucks just as much.
  2. Bears announced their coaching staff. Most of the names we knew but a few were added from previous lists, don’t ask me which. The S&C guy was promoted from previous spot and at least one of the assistants is a holdover so not sure if we can hope for any improvement in health management
  3. Read that as hardcore surgery at first, worrisome phrase
  4. When the tank began everybody that understood the process said it’ll be 2027 at least until they are good. They are marginally better than last year. They’ve competed most of this year while last year they were a cake walk. In hockey you need two legit scoring lines and 2 more solid ones just for a chance to compete. Very good teams have 3rd line guys that are better than Chicago’s top line. The Blackhawks have less than one full line. It’s basically a roster of middle to bottom six guys playing up one or two slots, with the exception of Bedard. They need guys who can hang with Bedard. Those guys are coming but not yet in NHL(or at least not NHL regulars). When you start from scratch it takes forever to get the ~9 impact forwards and 4 very good D to win consistently. very few forwards and practically zero defensemen make immediate impacts after getting drafted. They will probably be better next year (IF THEY ACTUALLY ACQUIRE A SECOND BANANA) but a 20 point jump right now, which would be a big step, still puts them outside the wild card.
  5. https://chicago.suntimes.com/blackhawks/2025/02/19/seth-jones-blackhawks-nhl-trade-deadline-chance-to-win could be something or could be nothing but Seth admitting “I would like to give myself a chance to win in my career” seems like a step in that direction. I still think it’s a long shot. Jones is still a good defenseman filling a needed spot. In the not too distant future he may become a third pairing guy, but he’s not that now. Unless they really want to clear space for Levshunov to play big NHL minutes tomorrow, and/or wanted to clear space to incentivize Rinzel to turn pro, there isn’t a really good hockey reason to make this move.
  6. Are you really differentiating the worth between 4 and 6 million? The amount of WAR between those values is nominal and would be in the range of expected production for him this season already.
  7. When you say “too” do you mean in addition to DH?
  8. Did not realize his age. Turner is a man, he’s 40.
  9. It was good enough for Roy Hobbs it’s good enough for Shaw
  10. I firmly believe that dozens of QBs were ruined by circumstance just like Brady greatly benefited from going to a team that carried his mediocre ass for years before he developed into a great.
  11. The players are fully invested and by all accounts the fans are into it. I’m looking forward to the Canada USA game on Saturday and this is a great lead up to the inevitable return of World Cup play for nhl stars.
  12. If I was a Golden Knights fan I’d sit there and be quiet so as not to anger the hockey gods for their incredibly fortuitous existence he’s week to week and regular season standings don’t matter
  13. Very exciting 3rd period and overtime for Canada/Sweden
  14. 4 nations is starting up and now this: MONTREAL — The NHL and NHL Players’ Association have achieved their goal of establishing a calendar of international best-on-best events, announcing Wednesday that they’ve committed to reviving the World Cup of Hockey in February 2028. That guarantees a regular cadence of best-on-best tournaments following this month’s 4 Nations Face-Off and the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan next February.
  15. Just want to keep this ridiculous thread title at the top of the list
  16. My arbitrary value line would be between a 2nd and 3rd round pick. A 3rd isn’t worth it. Id prefer future picks as well. They don’t need 2025 picks, they probably pay have too many. A future second will be an asset the include when they start trading for others teams guys, or somebody they select when todays prospects need to be replaced as they become eligible for 2nd and 3rd contracts.
  17. Somebody signing Bregman won’t even register on the Richter scale outside of the market that signs him and will be forgotten before the pregame shows start
  18. I empathize with your ambivalence toward the team to be in state and still avoid 2 months of their bs
  19. The Hawks have no skill. So many guys who are just fine NHL players, and very few impact guys. They are desperate for impact skill players. STL isn’t skilled either. the biggest takeaway from this game is the hawks are scoring more, and Soderblom can save a penalty shot. The rest is noise
  20. Trading Donato isn’t tanking. The second worst team in the league can’t tank. Anybody on the second worst team in the league that can not realistically be a part of the next great team is more than moveable
  21. There are at least three guys in the same situation that Nazar was in a year ago, guys who will be signing after college season and playing in the nhl. Then a guy who will be the 2nd pick in the draft who will likely play NHL minutes in 2025/26. About 5 guys for 2 spots. Not counting Donato
  22. Donato is a solid bottom six guy on a good team. He’s almost 29 and having a career year. If he’s willing to sign a team friendly contract with minimal term, sure sign him. But Teuvo, Mikhaev, Foligno, Reichel, Dickinson, Bertuzzi are all signed through next year. That’s half your forwards. Presumably they sign a big contract guy this summer. That leaves 5 spots for Bedard, Nazar, Slaggert, and a slew of young guys.
  23. Blackhawks scoring a plethora through two periods
  24. You cannot compare them on one hand and say it’s not fair to compare them on the other
