  1. Opinions deserve scorn if they're [expletive] opinions. A white supremacist holds the opinion of racial superiority, and he should absolutely be vilified for such a thing. Holding horsefeathers opinions absolutely makes someone a horsefeathers person. Yes, they’re both scummy. But can we at least agree that there’s a big difference between the white supremacist whose white supremacy is limited to point of view and the one who actually acts upon it? No. No, that's just dumb.
  2. i don't see why they couldn't have had a brief conversation with the friend/'nanny' and i'd expect it'd quickly materialize if she was on the level or vague/vindictive-sounding; she was (courageously) throwing bombs on social media, i don't see why she wouldn't have been willingly forthright with team brass in a fact-finding pursuit at that point Melissa may have specifically asked her to remain quiet
  3. I don't believe she denied the allegations. She didn't participate in MLB's investigation. I don't like the term "cooperate" since it heaps so much blame/responsibility upon the victim.
  4. This. Ricketts, Theo, and Jed don't seem like the kind of guys who will sit on their hands and let this one play out. He needs to be gone until this is investigated and let the dust settle where it may. ..they don't? this was a big story last spring, they looked into it & assuredly learned much of, if not all of what Melisa just shared and decided to stay the course with him; they've already failed the test It was a big story in a relatively small circle of the world based on a 3rd party social media post that was deleted(?). And she apparently didn't participate in the proceedings. They couldn't have learned much, and probably preferred it that way. This is different.
  5. We all want to see that, or at least I think we do. I don't want to have to think about domestic abuse, racism, homophobia, hatred and bigotry when I watch sports. But unfortunately it is unavoidable. That being said, it is still possible to get enjoyment out of sports while remaining aware of the negative attributes associated to the specific people in question and we can and should look point out that negativity whenever possible to heap scorn upon it and hopefully rid, or at least reduce, it in the future.
  6. Daniel Murphy hasn't even been good, so to support him you have to specifically like his homophobia.
  7. being a domestic abuser is a lifestyle choice being a privileged white dude that sexually assaults women and uses their privilege to shut down investigations into their behavior is a lifestyle being a bigoted christian that judges other people is a lifestyle being gay is not a lifestyle
  8. I am going to go ahead and commit NSBB suicide with my first post and ask why everyone cares so much about what athletes do? I mean we all watch these guys because they are really really good at baseball, not because they are heros or better people, right? Specifically with Murphy, I don't like him or anything he's said regarding homosexuality, but I'd rather he's hitting for us in the playoffs than the opposing team. Does that somehow make me a scumbag too? Agree 100%. I watch sports for entertainment, not to be friends with these players. Baseball is full of straight, white, Christian men from the South, you’re completely ignorant if you think Daniel Murphy is the only dude in baseball that disagrees with the gay lifestyle. My guess is there’s more than just him on the Cubs. stop calling it a lifestyle you homophobe
  9. I may have shared your opinion when I was young and dumb. But we live in a time when very terrible people are running the country and outright promoting sexual assault, bigotry and ignorance. I cannot simply pretend what these guys do outside the white lines doesn't matter. What Daniel Murphy said actually has negative ramifications for other people. It's bad. Domestic abuse, homophobia, bigotry in general. These are all terrible things that can and should be scorned. There is no reason to pretend this stuff is off limits.
  10. It's not a competition. He's a garbage person, and the Cubs knew it. So because a guy has different opinions than you, that makes him a horsefeathers person? I 100% disagree with Murphy but it’s his opinion. And my guess is, he’s far from the only one on the Cubs that disagrees with the gay lifestyle. It's not an opinion and it's not a lifestyle.
  11. Nothing short of a Ray Rice video coming out will come close to driving him out of the league. Unless he keeps sucking at baseball.
  12. My guess is they don't do anything formal anytime this year, but will reevaluate their plans for him in the offseason and try to move him for spare parts.
