  1. Umm...maybe because you never see a flying piece of pizza hit someone in the face at a baseball game. Not to mention the announcers were dying laughing. I don't understand how someone could not find this funny. Because sometimes laughing at other people like a bunch of Nelson Muntz lemmings isn't as fun as it sounds. I think the guy who threw it is a jerk. I don't see why people like to celebrate such behavior.
  2. He's definitely grinding our playoff hopes into dust. Plenty of teams make the playoffs with a complete :?: at the 5th starter spot. That has nothing to do with the Cubs season, unfortunately. Yes it does. My point is that we can still win the Central regardless of performance from the fifth starter spot. We could, but there's no reason to handicap your chances by throwing somebody out there.
  3. I can't stand the Rangers, but I actually would like to see them win this series, if only to bring more attention to hockey. The last time hockey had much pull in this country was the mid-90's, when the Rangers were good. As they and the Blackhawks faded from the scene, so did hockey. Couple that with all the success of expansion teams like Tampa, Carolina and Anaheim, teams that people just don't care about, and I think that added to the demise. The NHL needs the Rangers, Flyers, Blackhawks, as well as probably Toronto and Montreal to be successful to get back to where it was. I'd like to see as many Canadian teams do well as possible, and as many bigger market teams do well, if only to draw in more eyes. If the NYR and NJD advance, the NY media and general fan base is going to respond. If the Islanders did, that would just make it crazy for hockey around here. But Buffalo as the 1 seed is probably just as good. It would be nice to have the star power of Pittsburgh move on, but having a prominent Canadian team like Ottawa won't hurt. From the west, two California teams will bring attention. And Detroit and Vancouver are good to see as well. As a Blackhawks fan, there's more than a few teams in the mix that I'd like to see lose. But as a hockey fan, I think it would be good for some of them to win.
  4. Is this the 8th or 9th game this year where the ump had a bad strikezone? I can think of 2 instances off the top of my head where the umps had bad strike zones this season... but I'm not saying that should be any excuse. Players NEED to adjust to the bad zones. Somebody complains about the zone every game. Miller should get no credit for another supposed bad zone. He's a formerly decent pitcher whose career has been derailed by injury. By all accounts he's trying as hard as he can, working his butt off and giving it his all, but he's just not major league caliber. The Cubs can't afford that type of pitching performance.
  5. Cincy has 3 catchers. I remember hearing their announcers bitching about it on XM.

  7. Over the course of the season things tend to even out but as far as a single game goes, luck can play a pretty large factor. Do you disagree? Yes, luck plays a part in the game. No, the Cubs didn't lose yesterday because of bad luck.
  8. Not the losses-just this loss. The offense Sunday and the offense yesterday were two completely different things. That's what happens when you construct a roster as poorly as Jim Hendry. It's a feast or famine offense. They will look completely different from day to day, but more often than not, they will look bad. The Cubs were lucky that game even went into extra innings. They had a terrible pitching performance but remained in the game.
  9. Unfortunately, there's not really anything they can do before the May 1st game. I don't see any reasonable option to call-up for Sunday. They can't have all these guys go on short rest. And I don't even see anybody who should be brought up to help out the bullpen. The pitching staff is just going to have to get through this stretch until Guzman can be brought back.
  10. The wind kept the Cubs in the game. He was brutal.
  11. Alright, way to pick up the pace. The J-E-T-S will be away this weekend, so let's knock out a few more picks before Friday afternoon.
  12. Santo says Jones' arm is not bad. Santo, you are a horrible baseball analyst.
  13. Iowa is calling Matt. Do people realize that Matt is hitting nearly .300 right now? He's above league average. He's hitting .231.
  14. If they play one worth talking about I'll talk about it.
  15. The 2006 Cardinals were not a fluke. How is an 83-win team winning the World Series not a fluke? The Mets were clearly the best team in the NL last year. No they weren't they had a terrible pitching staff and it led to their downfall. You people are nuts. They had the 3rd best ERA in the league last year. Their downfall was all the pitching injuries they suffered right at the end of the year.
  16. Just like the miraculous comeback by the Astros in '05, the Cubs should not make their decisions based on how they compare to what the Cardinals were like last year. Why not? Basing plans off of world champions and practically yearly division champions is bad? Hoping to emulate lucky flukes is poor planning. The Cubs should try and build a 90+ game winner that is capable of 100 wins, not a team that might squeek by if things go their way. I think Cubs fans are the only fans that perceive the Cards as a lucky franchise. Give them some respect already. I'm not saying the Cardinals are a lucky franchise. I'm saying the 2006 Cardinals, like the 2005 Astros, got lucky to get where they went.

  19. Did he want to make sure Theriot got the take sign?
  20. So, basically, if we aren't the runaway best team we should just wrap it up and play kids? Playing Murton is not wrapping it up. He's as good as Floyd and Jones, at least, and should get better. None of the Cubs OF is an ideal OF, they need all of them to produce if they hope to succeed.
  21.   Putting the ball in play is awesome.
  22. Better bench Murton forever, then! Stop being dramatic. I'm just saying, through what I've seen of the season, Floyd's been a better player. And we NEED to win right now, not play Murton for the heck of it. You disagree with either of those statements? There don't seem to be many people who think we can win this year. Everyone is like "Floyd is old, what happens then?" Right now, Floyd is producing, Murton isn't. In this weak division, anyone can win, and as last year showed, all you need to do is make the playoffs and then ANYTHING can happen. I'm a Murton fan but right now I'd rather see Floyd out there. Floyd is not the only guy Murton can platoon with. Jones has something like a 550 OPS.
