  1. can't imagine why, given our lights-out closer and our stellar record in close games Actually Dempster was a very shaky closer last year and far from lights-out. Also our record is one run games is actually 0-6, no where near stellar. In fact you could say its the exact opposite of stellar awesome
  2. I'm still pretty clueless about the 2007 draft, don't see myself taking a look at this one for quite a while. And hopefully the Cubs won't be picking anywhere near the top.
  3. hahaha I saw the other day that he was about to put Murton into 11th on the team.
  4. I hear a lot of pot advocates try to downplay the dangers of smoking and driving. I don't hold the least bit of resentment against pot smoking myself, but the fact remains it's very much a problem. The only difference is fewer people do it. Oh, I'm not trying to downplay the danger of smoking and driving. You should not drive while impaired by ANYTHING. And that goes for painkillers too. Hell, that even goes for Nyquil. I was just noting that the primary cause of the crash was the fact he was drunk off his ass and on the cell phone. Completely agree. I just think the presence of pot in the car just adds to the "he was a reckless nutjob" argument. Not because pot smokers are reckless nutjobs, but due to these specific circumstances.

  6. Uh, Carrie, thats what we call cutting back on road trips. That's fantastic.
  7. Do you end every sentence with an exclamation point? Well, I mean if one of your close friends had a baby and I left you a message about it, I would use an exclamation point.
  8. I hate when Barrett gets in stretches like this.
  9. They should just hire a hot chick in an evening gown and put him on one of those rotating platforms next time.
  10. 87 thru 5. If he can finish 6 at 100 that would be quite a recovery.
  11. This is the church This is the steeple, Open the door and strike this moth%^%* out.
  12. The 2nd baseman tagged out the runner going to first?
  13. Yeah, it's hard to have sympathy for people when they endanger lives with poor decisions - but there are thousands of ways to do that. We all obviously have very strong feelings about this - but with respect for Hancock, we should stop passing judgement as we all have our faults. That's a cop-out. The guy got in an accident after a late night 3 nights before killing himself. That's reckless, death wish stupidity. Just because I got behind the wheel drunk when I was 17 doesn't mean I can't criticize a 29 year old for going way beyond just making a foolish mistake.
  14. Lou has allowed far too many outs to be made on the basepaths, guys stealing third, getting picked off, all sorts of nonsense. I don't care if you think he was safe, he was on base and after trying to "make stuff happen" he was no longer on base. This team has too many OBP problems to put up with getting the few baserunners they have picked off.
  15. for running on what was probably a missed hit-and-run, and for being called out when he was safe. Intelligent comment. Sorry to disspoint you. I didn't realize we were picking apart peoples heat of the moment reactions now..... A. DeRosa does what he is told B. You incorrectly attack DeRosa. C. Truffle is to blame. Got it. Oh, so now we're picking apart post heat of the moment commentary as well?
  16. for running on what was probably a missed hit-and-run, and for being called out when he was safe. Intelligent comment. After working a walk in a 8+ pitch AB... The issue is with Lou. He has to make sure guys aren't making outs on the basepaths by not putting them in motion to begin with.
  17. The crowd always overreacts during rallies. It always overreacts regardless. ding ding ding. we have a winner. there can be a pop fly to shallow center and half the crowd will stand and go insane thinking it's leaving the yard. It's quite hilarious, actually. I think there's a pretty clear difference between the overreaction on normal flies, and the same hit during a rally. Lou has to stop letting these guys make outs on the bases. The "make something happen concept" is killing this team.
  18. Futbol? I guess if he wanted the challenge of feeding his family with $5-6 million instead of $15m that might make sense. Otherwise, this makes no sense.
  19. Terrible. I've never understood why Lou think he should hit 5th. Lou has a thing with going lefty right, I'd think he'd much rather have Floyd, Lee, Ramirez, Jones, Barrett than 3 righties in a row. And being a catcher, he has to sit once or twice a week anyway.
  20. He's hurt. He has to be... not really... could just be in a funk b/c his mechanics are out of whack I'm trying hard to believe that, but I can't help thinking this has to be a health issue.
  21. .......... I never tried to justify doing it. I'm not proud of the dumb things I did as a kid, and I'm a staunch anti driving under the influence person. ............... I'm saying part of the problem is that people try to marginalize kids who could otherwise drink and/or smoke in safe conditions, if some people didn't demonize such activities, and that if we took a different attitude toward the subject we could probably cut down on many of the deaths. ............ I've made it quite clear where I stand on this and I never once bragged about anything related to this. I shot down the notion that there's no way he could have smoked the weed while driving. That's it.
  22. The thing I hate most about Jacque is that Hendry signed him when the Cubs needed so much more. I don't hate him like I hated Neifi and others. His OBP deficiency just makes the Cubs biggest problem all that much more of a problem. In his 7 months as a Cub his total numbers are pretty much right in line with expectations.
  23. I'm not a religious fanatic, but it's people like you that prove there's a higher power watching over us. Of course, the veteran potheads that you are mentioning aren't the ones that were killed while "lighting up, and in many cases doing something else in addition." It's a tangent, but I partially blame the harsh anti drinking and anti pot laws that are out there, that force so many kids, who are going to drink and going to smoke to go into hiding when doing it. Many adults conveniently forget when their drinking age was 18, and how they still broke the laws. Kids are going to drink, and many kids are going to smoke. I don't think there's anything wrong with that, on it's own.
