  1. I don't have a problem with it either, but that's not the point. The point is that a decreasing K rate can indicate arm problems.
  2. And to make matters worse, they are playing the 1955 Pirates who don't think it's necessary to put the game on TV at all, so no extra innings channel is showing this one. Absurd.
  3. There's no way someone can say a player will never be traded. Anything can happen in the future. samardzija has a no trade clause and a huge contract. there's like 0.000000000001% chance of him being traded within the next 8 years. Forgot about the NTC; that does make it unlikely that he'd be traded during the duration of the contract. However, he certainly could be traded after that, so I still disagree with your comment that there's almost no chance he'll ever be traded. A NTC hardly negates the chance he gets traded. And the contract isn't anywhere near large enough to get in the way either.
  4. I heard one report say the tow truck was in the left lane, and then I heard another say it was on the shoulder. But then if there aren't any shoulders it can't be true I guess. Anyway, my understanding is if you block a traffic lane on a highway you must put cones or flares out immediately. Maybe that's not the case in Missouri? I can't imagine traveling 70 MPH and realizing too late someone is blocking the lane. Seems way to dangerous to me -- but then again, I don't know the facts about what really happened here. the radio reports (KMOX) i've heard have always said the truck was in the left lane, but i believe the stalled car was also in the left lane. i guess a truck with flashing lights is better than a stalled car with no lights. maybe the driver didnt have time to set up the other safety/warning items. iirc 40 curves a little to the right at that point right before the grand exit going west, so an obstruction in the left lane would be shielded a bit to west bound drivers. This seems to be the only logical explanation - the police just hadn't arrived yet. Very dangerous situation obviously. How does a tow truck arrive before police? Was he just roaming that stretch of land anticipating accidents?
  5. He's not a free agent is he? I thought he was just having a little tiff with the Steelers. If he goes anywhere he probably ends up in Arizona with his ex-coach.
  6. My team has now carried a lead into the weekend 3 weeks in a row, only to cough it up late for the loss. I need more clutch players.
  7. I hadn't either. ESPN's depth chart has Langerhans/Jones/Francoeur, with Diaz backing up both corners and Hanz backing up in LF. They just called up a 28 year old with a pretty long history of not doing a whole lot in the minors (772 OPS) or majors (600 OPS). Langerhans wasn't hitting at all this year and hasn't done anything in his career, so it seems to me like they just gave up on him, as opposed to wanting to clear space.
  8. I wish the team would do that too, even if they don't stick with it. Tuesday is when the roster move will be made. Then they will play two games, then an off day-then 3 more, then another off day. I don't see any reason to need 12 pitchers that week. Finally they have 13 in a row, but Cherry will be eligible to be called back up by game 4 of that, and that will buy them another 10 days of figuring out what to do and possibly putting together a trade. This is a very solid argument for going with 11 pitchers, at least for the immediate future. Yeah, there's definitely no reason to make a move now. They don't need the 5th starter for a while, so you have yourself an 7-man pen until then, and that's the only reason to have a 12-man staff. And after a series of 4 off days in 12 days, the bullpen should be well rested and properly staffed by the time a 5th starter needs to be called up.
  9. Miller was near retirement when the Bears convinced him to stay in the league. Brown had to be convinced to stay this year. They don't have a single decent lineman in his mid 20's. St. Clair is a turnstile. An injury to either tackle, and this line will falter. An injury to Kreutz and the line crumbles. This team has been extremely lucky to be as healthy as it has been on the line the past two years. Sure, proper conditioning and quality strength work can help prevent injuries, so it's not all based on luck. But the health of offensive lineman is always in doubt. They needed a tackle this year. Next year's first rounder won't be nearly good enough to get the best tackle out there, and probably not somebody who could start in 2008 either. They needed to start developing guys a couple years ago, but they've ignored the offensive line in the past few drafts, and are pressing their luck.
  10. Very mixed emotions on this draft. Going into it, I had a lot of faith in Angelo based on his track record. I wasn't in love with Olsen, but he's a good pick, can't knock it. A few guys I wanted in the 31/37 area were drafted before the Bears picked. I think the trade they made was great. But I'm pissed they ignored the offensive line issue until the middle round, getting just a guard. They need tackles desperately, and a 7th rounder is probably not going to cut it. They drafted some of the positions I wanted to see, including linebacker and change of pace back. I wanted them to take a flyer on a QB late in the draft, and can't really complain about Leak there. But the overload of d-backs seems excessive, even if they had an eye on restocking their special teams with those guys. And it seems just about everybody but Olsen and Beekman were overdrafts. I realize Angelo has done well here, and as somebody else noted, the Bears don't focus as much on getting guys in the right slots for the pick as they do how that person fits with the team. But even still, I can't help but think they left a lot of value on the table, and didn't put enough emphasis on their biggest need, offensive lineman. If that line slips at all this year, the offense is going to take a major step back.
  11. right now I'm pissed. wolf was practically undrafted free agent caliber. the others seem like complete reaches and ego picks. this is the type of draft that could make or break angelo's reputation.
  12. It's got to be Murton. They're killing him right now, as he's pretty much just wasting away doing nothing.
  13. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2851544 SAN FRANCISCO -- A former employee of the New York Mets has pleaded guilty to distributing steroids and human growth hormone to dozens of major league players between 1995 and 2005, several media outlets are reporting. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/27/AR2007042701332.html?hpid=topnews Kirk J. Radomski, a personal trainer who said he worked for the Mets from 1985-95, agreed to cooperate with the group led by former Sen. George Mitchell that Major League Baseball appointed to investigate drug use in baseball, as part of a plea deal accepted at the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of California Friday by Judge Susan Illston. Parrella said Radomski was a batboy, clubhouse assistant and equipment manager for the Mets. No Major League Baseball players were identified in the court filings associated with the case, but names and paragraphs of text were redacted from the federal search warrant affadavit filed in December 2005. The affadavit listed 23 checks worth more than $30,000 that federal investigators alleged were deposited by individuals associated with Major League Baseball into Radomski's personal bank account between May 2003, and March 2005.
  14. That's actually a great call. I'm kinda feeling that also... I would like that feeling.
  15. I would also send Ronny down. Lou won't stand to only have one utility IF for long, so one of the OF's will have to be moved. At that time, then I hope they pick Fontenot over Cedeno, and have Fontenot and Izturis on the bench at the ML level with Ronny as the starting SS at Iowa. I don't understand why they don't just send Murton down now, even if it's just until they get a chance to trade Jones. He's worthless on the bench and it's killing his value and learning curve. Ronny has a little upside, but I don't think enough so that it's worth sending him to AAA. I think his best value to the team is as a cheap utility man. I'd be all for the release of Izturis, if he can't be traded, and calling up Fontenot. But none of this is going to happen.
  16. um why? DFA Izturis and get someone useful on the bench. Fontenot can at least get on base. There is no reason for Izturis to be on this team when Ronny can be just as bad for so much less. Even if you sink the cost of Izturis, you are helping the team by removing him from the roster. You're probably right, I just don't have the energy to fight that battle. Getting a young kid with the potential to do better actually in the starting lineup has temporarily satisfied my appetite. Way to strive for mediocrity newbie. I'm just hoping they contend within the division. Back to back to back .500 seasons would be great. contending within the division is like cold emotionless sex. that makes me hot
  17. Lndry please. Though wouldn't be upset about getting any of those guys. Landry please. I don't want Quinn at all, and I don't really see the point in picking Peterson. I want Benson to get a chance. Peterson, in my opinion, is just a waste of cap space when we could've landed a position that we needed. Yeah, I didn't see the point in drafting Benson when they did, and now that he's lined up to be the starter, I don't see the point again. Although I would like to see a mid round back taken.

  20. Wow, AAA? Well, if you're going to send him to AA what are you going to send Cedeno to, rookie ball? I don't know about you, but I'd send Ronny to O'Hare to pick up ARod. Then I'd give him Imran John duty.
  21. When do we next face a left-handed starter? Until Floyd gets hurt I expect Murt's back will serendipitously unstiffen whenever the Cubs are due to face a LHP, then just as quickly restiffen when a RHP is next. Isnt there a medical condition that exists from lack of muscle use? atrophy?
  22. Don't be fooled, Hendry has decided no such thing. The biggest thing in favor of Izturis being gone is the likelihood of new management making decisions. If Hendry returns I would not be surprised at all to see Izturis extended, let alone having the option picked up.
  23. Izturis's defense isn't good enough to warrent that kind of offensive liability. The least they can do is give Theriot some time out there to prove his critics wrong.
  24. That's true. Every day he has no value.
  25. As a chicago fan who doesn't live in chicago, I disagree. Just going to the papers' individual sites is much better.
