  1. Yeah I believe it, it's obvious. He started the season banged up. He missed at least one start, and probably two this weekend, which would have vaulted him over Murton easily. There was talk of a back issue with Murton, but no evidence, and he said he was fine. Floyd has been injured most of his career and moves around like Bonds nowadays. He's clearly incapable of starting everyday and being held back due to health.
  2. The only reason is Floyd's health (and his father's). And this isn't just a Floyd vs Murton debate. It's primarily Jones who has trumped both in playing time.
  3. Floyd's not hitting the ball? I posted this in the other thread: Murton (116 AB's)-.259/.338/.345 Floyd (111 AB's)-.306/.364/.423 So Floyd has been over 100 points of OPS better than Murton, and yet played less than him. Right now, Floyd's the guy who should be playing more if Lou wants to play guys who have produced. I agree with you completely with Jones-if Murton is not hurt, then Lou absolutely should not be starting Jones in RF. He's not hitting for power. He's got a sub 800 OPS. So no, he's not really hitting. He's got a nice average, but that's about it. And the only reason he's played less is because he's so fragile and has been on the bereavement list.
  4. I doubt it. He's on record saying expensive veterans get the nod. He's clearly a guy who prefers to have some LH bats. He's got Floyd and Jones pencilled in ahead of him. I think it's pretty obvious what is going on there, nothing behind the scenes at all.
  5. Every game? Or barely any games?
  6. Because he's overrated and not very good. It would be so very Cubs like to pay anything for the crap production a guy like Eckstein is likely to give as he enters his mid 30's. Aneheim and STL got the most out of him, he's gotten the most out of his talent. But the pumpkin is going to show up soon and the Cubs should not be the one holding onto his contract when it does. If they can't get ARod, then fill SS internally with some $350,000 fill-ins and spend money on players that would actually improve the team.
  7. They are 6 games under .500. How much credit should management get? I like Lou better than Dusty. But the team is still a disappointment.
  8. What's more disgusting? Paying $4M to Izturis or $4M to Eckstein? I'm all for going with Theriot if he's ready. See, the problem is Eckstein's name should not be mentioned. There's no reason to even consider him a fallback. It's not whether or not he's better than Izturis.
  9. I wouldn't give Ronny a shot at SS expecting him to become a really good one. But I think he could be given a shot at SS if the rest of the team is structured properly to take advantage of his low price tag. If you are going to get crap production out of a position, you better be paying $350,000 for it, and not $4.5 million.
  10. Lilly looks ridiculous in that picture. He just threw a pitch, he wasn't posing for a photo op! I realize that, but it looks like he just tossed a ball up there while standing flat footed. He doesn't look like he just threw a pitch.
  11. funny how when murton can't hit for beans, everyone says it's because he's not getting regular playing time... when jones can't hit, it's because he flat-out sucks. Funny how stupid that comparison is. Jacque plays all the time and sucks. Murton has stunk this year, but has 40% fewer chances. As brief as his career has been so far, he's already outperforming Jones.
  12. The fact that you repeatedly said the name Eckstein really disgusts me. He's approaching his mid 30's now, and was never that good to begin with. Let Theriot play the role of Eckstein circa 2005 at a fraction of the cost, or go in a completely different direction. But don't pay millions for that type of production.
  13. Lilly looks ridiculous in that picture.
  14. Or Pagan could go...he is the next one to go... If they hope to not waste the value of Matt Murton, I think they should option him to AAA so he can play everyday and get back on track. Pagan can backup Pie in CF. Murton can come back if/when Jones is gone, or they could build up his trade value and get something for him. Murton as the 6th OF just isn't good for anybody.
  15. It's actually quite easy. 2- Barrett 3- Lee 4- DeRosa 5- Ramirez 6- Theriot 7- Dunn 8- Pie 9- Soriano would be a hell of a lineup. You'd have to be completely biased against or ignorant of the value of OBP/SLG to not see why Dunn in this lineup would be a good thing. Although at this point, all the other stuff that would go into getting Dunn makes me less interested.
  16. I'd rather he be on the DL than being unavailable on the bench.
  17. Because ESPN knew if they excluded BA they'd have all the lowest common denominator idiots whining about not including batting average, because it's a traditional stat. I disagree. They included it because they are lowest common deonominator idiots.
  18. Well, it helps to make up for ignoring slg. a bit. Do they ignore SLG? Isn't that what batted based accumulated is supposed to be?
  19. So you'd take the guy who drives in fewer runs, and scores fewer runs (if the preferred OBP is lower, and his HR are lower, he will score less) all because you don't like the average? This makes no sense. What makes no sense is you seem to think a players OBP and HR totals a mainly tied to their runs scored production. You can have lower OBP and HR's and still score a truck load of runs. The point is you specifically said you would prefer the player with a lower RBI total but claimed if he changed his style he'd hit more. It's nonsensical. R and RBI are team oriented. The only thing a player can do to affect his R and RBI totals are produce OBP and SLG.
  20. I saw the first inning on TV, then listened to the rest while driving home from the beach. My XM was dead and I had to rely on the randomly placed ESPN affiliated radio stations that weren't carrying the basketball game. Of course the signal was at it's worst just as Dempster imploded.
  21. It's too bad he threw 117 last time, and 125 three starts ago. It seems likes every start Z has had to reach back and get a little something extra. The worse his slump got the more effort he seems to be putting into his outings, and that's not necessarily a good thing for pitchers. I'd really hate to see him battle through 6 and have the coaches try and get 7 or 8 out of him by extending him, when it already appears there is something wrong with the guy. Lilly and Marquis should be available if they need a couple innings tonight. Marquis isn't scheduled for a regular start until Thursday, and he's coming off a 50 pitch outing. Hell, I could live with Zambrano for 6, Marquis for 2 and Dempster for 1. Just as important as Zambrano having a good long outing, the offense really needs to score 6 or 7 tonight.
  22. So you'd take the guy who drives in fewer runs, and scores fewer runs (if the preferred OBP is lower, and his HR are lower, he will score less) all because you don't like the average? This makes no sense.
  23. That's simply not the case.
  24. Good golly, what a bunch of nonsense.
  25. Yes. Pitching to Andruw Jones was something he never should have done. The interesting thing is Andruw was not getting good swings every time against Marquis. Several balls that he fouled off he just barely got a piece of. When he put it fair though, they were rockets. Marquis just struggled finding the zone last night. Combine that with 1 hitter who just torches him, and an error by Marquis, and it led to disaster. I think you could say he pitched worse than his line. 1 2/3 (does anybody else hate the 1.1 and 1.2 distinctions? If you want decimels, write 1.3 and 1.7) and 2 ER saves his ERA quite a bit.
