  1. I'm pretty certain nothing significant will happen. But I also think there's a good chance Hendry will do "something", just not the type of something that will greatly impact the team.
  2. Just wanted to point out nothing has worked for JJ. .241/.308/.333 overall this season, .283/.370/.326 post all star break. .188/.350/.250 in his last 7 days. Jacque has been unproductive all year long. He had a nice little streak there where he drew a couple walks and found some holes for singles, but he has shown no power all year and has been a big drag on the team.
  3. In my opinion, that's horrible relief work. He's got a 1.55 WHIP and 7.45 ERA. He's got a 6/7 K/BB ratio in 9 2/3 innings. That's awful.
  4. He's had a mediocre career and is well past his prime and is having a horrible season. I don't see how any reasonable analysis could possibly assume Jones is going to suddenly come back to career norms, given the circumstances.
  5. Gagne, Wood, Dempster, Howry, Wuertz, and Marmol from the right side of the pen. Not to mention Petrick, who has been great when he's been up. And the various others who have shown flashes. Has there been a new Petrick added to the roster? The one who has pitched for the Cubs has been horrible, not great. Turn your auto a-hole response off. I know people have been picking on you in this thread but I have not. Oh yeah, and my point.....Petrick gave up 2 runs in his 1st outing (and made 1 pitch that was remotely bad) and 4 in his last outing. Other than that, he gave up 2 in 9 innings. Excuse me? Auto A-hole? I'm not going to apologize for pointing out Petrick has been far from great.
  6. When Marquis and Hill are pitching, its a pretty big need. Getting more than 5 innings out of them is becoming a real stretch. If you can't add a real impact in the OF, then I don't mind anymore. Almost changed my tune in 24 hours. Having a complete shutdown bullpen in the playoffs is a huge plus. Especially if we have to face Peavy and Young twice in a 5 game series. They already have 7 arms out there, and they've got another handful of guys rotating in and out in the minors. Gagne isn't going to hurt the team, and it's not that I'd mind him being here at all, but it's not that exciting for a team with good pitching and mediocre hitting, including 4 big holes in the lineup, to get a reliever. People are listing bullpen as number 1 on the list all over the place, and it's just not the true. If he falls in their lap fine. But Jim doesn't have a great history adding veteran bullpen arms.
  7. All I read is that he would have to be consulted if he were to be traded to Boston. That is weird, I thought people want to goto Boston. Similarly, he wouldn't have to be consulted for a trade to Milwaukee. That is weird, I didn't think people wanted to goto Milwaukee If you negotiate to get a certain number of teams on your no-trade list, then you want to list the ones you are most likely to be traded to. The point is to get the teams to make it worth your while. It's not that you don't want to go there, it's just that if you think there's a better chance your team will try and trade you there, you list that team, so that they have to give you something to okay the deal.

  9. I missed the part of the OP's post where he said that a bullpen arm was the Cubs' biggest need. I think everyone here knows your position on where you think the Cubs need help. No need to interject it unnecessarily. More than one person has said bullpen is the biggest need. The moron who does postgame on CSN and thinks everybody on the team is great listed at his #1. Lots of people are begging for it above all else. Multiple people are pretending the lineup is fine and needs no help, yet everybody falls back to the "we could always use another reliever" nonsense. I think reminding the ill-informed that the Cubs hitters are not that good and they need reinforcements is a lot more valuable than talk of another freaking reliever.
  10. I like. It's sad that we do have in house solutions for 3 of our 4 holes, but Soto, Murton and Pie won't get any regular time for some reason. Once again, CF isn't really a hole. Except for the whole lack of production thing, you're right. Jones has an .825 career OPS against RHP. As a comparison: By way of comparison, Lifetime OPS v. RHP Jacque Jones - .825 Carlos Beltran - .840 Mike Cameron .757 Johnny Damon .797 Andruw Jones .831 Vernon Wells .779 Torii Hunter .778 Nick Swisher .778 Are we only facing RHP from here on out? And are we going in the way back machine to when Jones was mildly productive? CF is a hole. Pretending otherwise doesn't change that fact.
  11. Yeah, that would work well for little leaguers and high schoolers with weak arms, but that's going to require multiple relay throws which is going to allow any decent runner to score any time.
  12. I wish people would stop pretending another bullpen arm is the biggest need.

  14. Hey, why don't you climb up that ladder. Heh, don't fall. Next time you should come up here and sing the 7th inning stretch.
  15. It would be great if an extension could be announced today. It would make for a great trading deadline day regardless of whether anything else happens. It would work well to cover the PR angle following a non-active deadline.
  16. You keep using that word, I do not that it means what you think it means. Inconceivable! Anybody want a peanut?
  17. Barring something else, as well, but I don't want to talk about it.
  18. I watched ESPN for the HD, but man, Sut had to be drunk. And he can't be more than a week away from pulling a Kiss me Suzy with what's her name, the overrated blond. He was all over her last night. I'm surprised ESPN has stuck with him this long, considering his alcohol issues. And the cliches are just so freaking annoying with him. It's non-stop.
  19. I think it's a mistake to underplay the difference between the two offenses. The Cubs have a 96 OPS+, MIL has a 108. On the flip side, the Cubs have a 116 ERA+ and MIL has a 103. The Cubs are 10th in the NL in OPS and MIL is 3rd. There's a real difference, and when you consider each team has its own strenght, it's pretty clear the teams are pretty evenly matched, as their records indicate.
  20. You have got to be kidding me with this ridiculously overplayed "everybody is acting like he's the greatest" nonsense. You are clearly trolling here. ahemsammysosaahem thank you I apologize, I read that as referring to Murton being the greatest RF according to some.
  21. If a guy gets healthy and starts to rehab I think the team can keep him down there for 10 days without his consent. But if he says he's good to go and they keep trying to make him rehab, I think he can file a grievance or something and get himself called up or released. If Blanco says he's not ready, he's not going to complain about a prolonged rehab stint. Maybe he and Hendry have come to an agreement to wait for Sept callups.
  22. My cousin, who lives in Detroit, just heard on sports talk radio there that the trade is done. I still haven't seen an official link though. Pitt people have been saying the Izturis deal was done in order to facilitate moving Wilson, and while I applaud them for moving on from Wilson, I don't understand why they thought they need another ineffective expensive SS to make it work.
  23. Teixeira is not a 2-month rental. They control him through next season. And as a player at the beginning of his prime he's a much more valuable than both of those post 30 players who have been inconsistent in recent years.
