  1. I'm sure there are varying opinions, but I don't really care who they back, it's how they respond that matters.
  2. Or the Dodgers will continue to clean the Cubs' clock. There would be a run to the bat rack. Harden deserves this start and not to give it to him is a fireable offense. The Dodgers haven't cleaned anyone' clock, I refuse to give them credit beyond not playing as poorly as the Cubs. All they've done is be the beneficiaries of some bad Cub Baseball, nothing more. They've taken walks and hit homeruns and other extra base hits. They've won big because of the Cubs being stupid, but they've still played well enough to win without all the help.

  4. I think this makes more sense than those who are claiming this team isn't motivated enough or they don't care.
  5. I hope they don't think that this will enable the Rays to sign high priced free agents. Merchandise sales of MLB licensed stuff is shared with all 30 teams. This means when all those Yankee and Red Sox fans buy up all that Yankee and Red Sox gear, they're helping out everyone in MLB. They don't have to, they have to lock up their current roster (BJ, CC, Kazmir) and a 97 win team, the youngest team in the playoffs, with the best farm system in the game will only get better. Actually, their farm system is very good because of all the high draft picks they've had during the crap years. This is how the Tigers got to the World Series in 2006. With this good season behind them, the Rays will have a low pick next year. A little known fact about the MLB draft is that, unlike the NFL and NBA, teams cannot trade their pick positions. This means the Rays cannot offer, say, Carl Crawford and Rocco Baldelli to the team with the first pick next year for that pick. That's a fairly well known fact, and I don't think you need to explain to ping how the Rays "got here".
  6. you should have received an email with a password, got mine at 7:23 am this morning. I never signed up for anything. then you didn't win the lottery and aren't eligible to buy tickets.

  8. If they get there, I'll be at game 6.
  9. This team isn't built for the long haul. If they win 6 divisions in a row and don't win a world series, yes, people will be devastated. I like how you say you won't even watch this game, yet you are ridiculing others for being upset about the way things have gone.
  10. Do people really think a lack of motivation is the problem?
  11. A) There aren't many Braves fans left. B) Braves fans saw a hell of a lot more playoff wins than Cubs fans, including World Series wins. Stupid comparison.
  12. In his last at bat, that first pitch called a strike was comical. The K-Zone thing showed it to be about 14 inches outside. Same thing in game 1. The cynic in me says the old ass umps hold some sort of post WWII grudge against Japanese players. They have called a heck of a lot of awful pitches strikes against him, and it appeared to start after his hot April. The umps in general were awful last night. There was a ball that hit white grass called foul, strikes right down the middle called balls, the ill-advised throw to 2nd by Zambrano was clearly late and they called it out. They were pathetic.
  13. Not nearly enough energy to think about this right now.
  14. I saw the end result but didn't understand what led up to it. Thanks.
  15. That was fun to see, I think Cabrera was trying to fire up his team. TB has been in quite a bit more confrontations than some tiny MI kicking dirt. Balfour is high strung anyways and if the Sox tried intimidating them, that won't work. Neither will meatballs to Evan, they'll need BJ to step up tonight. What did Cabrera do?
  16. Not to overreact, but are we looking at the end of Harris's career? Or just a bad time here? With a guy as emotionally unstable as Harris appears, you never know. I'd say the chances are slim that he actually walks away for good, but who knows what kind of effort or production they will get out of him this year.
  17. It doesn't help that Fukudome is regularly screwed by umps with balls 10 inches off the plate being called strikes. I noticed it quite a bit early in the year, and that's when Fukudome started swinging at all sorts of crap. Of course, there are much bigger problems, but I'm getting sick of seeing those pitches called strikes on him. Guys could probably throw three straight fastballs down the middle and hold him to a .250 AVG at this point.
  18. If the Cubs threaten that way, you can bet it will be.
  19. Sure, but coming off a down year, it's going to be bad again next year anyway. They need to rebuild anyway and smaller market teams have a tough time affording expensive starting pitching. The winning and losing matters a lot more than name players. Unfortunately, we'll probably never know how much losing a player of his caliber on a small market team affects attendance. You are correct that they will be down coming off a bad year. I'm sure their season ticket sales this season wasn't impacted all that much since they were coming off a good season the previous year and essentially had everyone from that team coming back again. Season ticket sales will plummet this coming season now that fans know it was a bad team this year and will likely be worse next year. These people love Peavy, however. Pittsburgh loved Jason Bay (and before that Giles). I just don't think there are untouchable players. Very, very few teams really hold on to the fan favorites forever, and most smaller clubs get rid of them earlier than expected.

  21. Because the Cubs are very much alive in the playoffs and playing a game tonight?
  22. Does it though? Do people actually pay much attention?
  23. Milwaukee has 'em loaded with 1 out in the first and JJ Hardy at the plate. Bases loaded walk makes it 1-0.
