  1. The timing of this game is enticing me to stick around the office longer than I have to today.
  2. I don't think it's a matter of him realizing he's not good at his job. I think he's fine at his job and knows that's always been good enough with Michael around. Now he's realizing that just doing enough disappoints the boss and he's getting caught with a lack of effort by the new guy. He realizes he doesn't try very hard and wants to make it look like he does.
  3. Anna is more of a catcher.
  4. http://deadspin.com/5207012/the-world-didnt-just-lose-nick-adenhart-yesterday The other victims.
  5. Please. You've never known anyone who sees everything through the prism of personal income? This country's full of them. It doesn't necessarily make him soulless, and I'm sure he felt some grief, but let's not pretend there was no calculation on his part. My first thought was it was Boras acting, but I really think it was genuine.
  6. I think there was a seperation, or maybe even a divorce filing, but they got back together.
  7. Anna Benson's husband still players baseball?
  8. I just turned on Texas/Detroit. This has to be quintessential "only reason I'm watching this game is because it's Good Friday, the markets are closed but I'm at work anyway and we have another day of the free preview extra innings package in the office" matchup.
  9. Not necessarily. If I have more than a couple drinks or feel impaired in the slightest bit, I call a cab. Basically I call a cab anytime I go out. But after using a sample breathalyzer, I am sure there have been many times where I unwittingly drove right around a .08-.10. Studies have been extremely inconclusive at best when it comes to that range. I mean 1 stronger than expected margarita with a Mexican meal and you're at that level. Most likely you do not feel much impairment. If you want to steepen drunk driving penalties for habitual offenders, I'm with you. If you want to steepen them on general principle, I want to know what you plan to do for people caught talking on cell phones, eating, texting, applying makeup, etc... The "I can handle it" defense is incredibly weak. Clearly you are an habitual offender. The fact that you haven't been caught doesn't change it. Quit being such a selfish bastard and stop driving when you drink.
  10. I heard that this morning on The Score and thought it was the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. What's Wise's OBP compared to Bradley's? Beyond that, it's just dumb to even try to compare the two players. It's a decent attempt to deflect criticism from their own guy.
  11. Truffle, did you watch last night's rangers/flyers game? What the heck happened on that first goal when they pushed the goalie into the net? I was there, and it looked to me that the ref lost sight of the puck, then took forever to do anything and finally decided he had to call it a goal when the goalie slid back.
  12. Good post. When the Bears were good on defense, up until 2006, they were bringing in fresh faces from the draft consistently. Granted they kept trying, but failed miserably with Bazuin and Okwo. Also, Anderson regressing has hurt. I think it's much easier to bring in veteran offensive players than defensive players. Defensive players can easily step in and play right away, getting by on their god given ability. They also lose effectiveness as the age moreso than offensive players. So, I would rather draft a DL or a CB and put him in the rotation over drafting a WR, QB, or even an OL and throwing him to the wolves. How is Hester counted on this list? He was drafted as a DB/KR, you can't count him as offense. That year they went DB, DB, DT, LB, DE, RB, G. Then, in 2007, they went Olsen 1, at the end of the draft, but your arbitrary value system gives more emphasis to that pick, even though he was closer in numerical order to DManning than Chris Williams. Aside from that, they wasted their next three picks on reaches that didn't come close to fulfilling their value, Bazuin, Wolfe, Okwo. The only guy still around is the offensive player, but I don't think you can say they emphasized offense over defense in that draft. I don't think they have ignored defense, as much as they got cocky with their supposed ability to find gems there. They ignored the offensive line, but they've picked defensive players. They've just done a horrible job recently. The last three drafts they went heavy defense, mixed, and heavy offense. The free agent/trade aspect is meaningless, as they've had much more stability of players on defense and invested more money than most teams have done on defense during that time. They just kept their own because earlier in this regime they actually did a good job finding guys. I also think a portion of the problem is that after the Super Bowl run, Lovie and the coaches got more decision making power, and they were able to get guys they wanted.
  13. You can't go a week with one catcher, especially one with no track record and a mangled hand. Good point, but my other option (sending Gathtight down and bringing up Johnson) should work. I'd rather be without Gathright for 10 days (the minimum length of a minor league assignment) that Soto for 15. I'd be fine with that, but doesn't he have to clear waivers?
  14. I wouldn't go that far, if only because of our country's stupid liquor laws, which practically forces those 18-21 to go off and hide when they drink, which contributes to them driving in dangerous situations. Also, if the death is that of another drunk driver, or a passenger that willingly got into a car with a drunk driver, I wouldn't want it to be a life sentence. But these people are such habitual repeat offenders, I do think it needs to be much harsher than it is now.
  15. Kind of off-topic . . . but does anyone else HATE the Tribs revised online section? (I know, old news, but with the start of the season, I've found myself pursuing around there more often in the last week or so) I really miss the dedicated ChicagoSports.com layout. At least I could find what I wanted, quickly. I don't really know how you cannot find what you want on their site quickly. I don't have a problem with it.

  18. Masters starts on espn in 3, 2, 1...
  19. I know nothing of the broadcasting business, but I have to imagine it would be quite difficult to break this type of news, and in a matter of seconds/minutes check on what your first commercial is and change it if innappropriate.
  20. deadspin has a clip up of how sportscenter broke the story. They went to some sad version of the baseball tonight song, then the first commercial was nascar drivers talking about the thrill of being in a crash.
  21. I hope they don't. They also still have Wolfe as a backup too. Wolfe is worthless. Jones lessens the need, but he doesn't eliminate it. If they can get a talented guy in the 4th or 5th, there's no reason to pass it up. Backup RBs often play on special teams, and the Bears can use help there.
  22. I dunno, how often should you expect a random sampling of 750 healthy, in shape 20-40 year olds to die during a 6 month period? 750 healthy, financially well off 20-40 year olds in America, nonetheless. i don't think a person's financial status or arm strength would save them in a car crash. No, but it's probably a factor in their mortality rate, no? This wasn't just a discussion about car crashes, I thought you were just talking about a death of any kind.

  24. I highly doubt there is going to be much of that. 12:30 after a night game is hardly even late. If it happened at 4, I'm sure some people would have something to say about that.
  25. It seems like there is at least one a year.
